So you want to get a thread pinned... Here's what to do. And NOT do.

I'm speaking only for myself, but I don't believe I'm much different in my approach than any other mod.

1. Just because it is news to YOU, doesn't mean it's news.
2. Just because it is news, doesn't mean it gets pinned.

What I look for in a thread to pin...
1. Variety of interest in relation to other pinned threads.
2. Frequency of similar threads being posted and pinned.
3. Is it something no one will hear about if it doesn't get pinned? Something unique?
4. Is it UFO, conspiracy, or lunatic fringe related?
5. Do I find the sources and info to be credible?
6. Sometimes, none of the above. Sometimes I pin a thread just because it's funny and we need a break from all the other threads of similar content.


WHAT NOT TO DO.
1. Put "Pin THIS" anywhere in the title or UserID of the thread.
2. Start ten zillion threads begging for a pin.
3. Call the mods names if at first we don't respond.
4. Don't piss me off in general.
5. Don't use ALL CAPS AND SAY BREAKING BREAKING OMGZ.

What will not sway me... the number of people wanting a particular thread pinned.

I'm sure there are more things to add to this.... I will keep thinking.
