Does Sleeping "Direction" Effect The Quality Of Sleep?
|
Anonymous Coward User ID: 235208 6/22/2008 8:06 AM | | Re: Does Sleeping "Direction" Effect The Quality Of Sleep? | Quote | I heard of this many moons ago, i've tried my bed in all 4 directions and can only get good sleep in the one position, however my feet are pointing south, but sometimes i flip upside down in bed if i'm having trouble sleeping, never got a good sleep facing east or west though, but maybe thats because my room is elongated to the north south direction and i feel clausterphobic in the east west position....dunno...maybe |

Google it. ; )
i mean, do the earths magnetic lines harmonize better with the body, if for example sleeping head towards the north??

The earth's magnetic flux lines run with the same polarity as the body, but if you understand about electricity and magnetics, then for it to run in harmony, the body's head should point to the south, and the feet to the north.

Wrong- it's one in the same energy. You're repelling the universal energy, not allowing it in when you face the south.

(Testie/Ovary) and travels up around teh spine to the top of the head to the forhead.
Aligning with the same force of the universe is believed to help/work with that. |

Bed farthest from the door...due to basic animal instinct of being least vunerable. not under beams, and so forth.
plus, on an even higher complicated level, takes into consideration your birth year (to determine your chi) and which direction is best for your chi.

this part only for Christians: also, i am Christian, and even tho this is eastern philosophy, i do believe we are created as such, and the energy fields are clearly visible with the right equipment. i've also had tremendous success with accupuncture when nothing else - conventional medicine, natural medicine, specialists, doctors and everything on that route did absolutely nothing / made it worse. |

Okay Anonymous coward 452845, let me start from first principles.
How does North Pole Magnetic Therapy Work?
The opposite poles of the magnet attract and the poles repel. Medical research states that, placing the North Pole of a magnet on any living tissue attracts the positive electrolytes in your body. The most common and most plentiful are Hydrogen H+ or the H+ of H20, Calcium Ca++, Potassium K+, Sodium Na+, Magnesium Mg++, Carbon C+ and Iron Fe++. The iron molecule called hemoglobin works in the body to deliver oxygen into the cell and pick up waste. Placing the North Pole on the skin will accelerate this natural process. Increasing oxygen promotes natural healing and the hemoglobin serves as a garbage truck and removes waste, thus decreasing edema and inflammation, swelling. That in turn decreases pain naturally. When the pineal gland is bathed in a North Pole magnetic environment, oxygen is increased, resulting in an increase in growth hormone, melatonin production and a deeper restorative sleep, anti-aging, and stress reduction.
The polarity of a magnet is key.
While natural magnets have both North Pole and South Pole properties, artificial magnets are manufactured in one of two ways. Unipolar surface and Bipolar surface. Unipolar means we have separated the poles, placing North on one side and South on the other side. Bipolar means that both poles are on the same side. The reason we separate the poles is clearly defined by a world leading authority on Magnetic Therapy, Dr. William Philpott, M.D. In his and other clinical studies, they have found that each pole has definate and distinct effects on living tissue. The following is only a partial sampling of clinical observations:
North Pole
Increases oxygen
Reduces fluid retention/edema
Normalizes pH
Supports biological healing
Relieves/stops pain
Decreases oxygen
South Pole
Increases fluid retention
Promotes acidity
Inhibits biological healing
Can enhance/increase pain
However, what is the mistake of most people is that the earth's MAGNETIC South pole (+) is in the GEOGRAPHIC north pole. i.e. where Santa lives!
The MAGNETIC North pole (-) is down at the Antarctic, GEOGRAPHIC south pole. i.e. where the penguins live.
See following link: [link to www.physics.sjsu.edu]
Sleeping with the head pointed towards the Antarctic or MAGNETIC North pole (-), attracts these positive electrolytes towards the brain and hence more oxygen, where as the MAGNETIC South pole (+) will help pull the waste products towards the feet or your ass as that's where your excrement goes.
Hope that's clear.
Hence the an old saying, sleep with your head pointed south (GEOGRAPHICAL SOUTH) for longevity. |

you realize that the geographic poles and earths magnetic poles are opposites right? so shouldnt our head be pointing towards the true north magnetic pole (south geographical pole).
Yes, our bodies polarity is N/S with N being at our head. The magnetical flow is the same, feet towards true south, head towards true north.

At geographic North direction --> Earht's South magnetic pole exists and so if our head is North pole then it should face Geographic north direction(Since here eart's south pole exists and attracts head's North pole)giving very good sleep and rest. |

1. Local magnetic variation from the Earth's Magnetic flux lines would have to be accounted for - magnetic influence from electrical appliances & ferromagnetic materials will all distort the shape of the local magnetic flux lines
2. The earth's magnetic flux lines vary daily & yearly (small amounts)
3. The magnetic flux lines have both horizontal directional and vertical dip components
4. Recent studies using Google Earth Satelite imagery have recorded the N/S alignment orientation of herds of Cattle & Deer etc.
I am going to start experimenting and see what I notice!

I had problems to get to sleep and woke up several times during the night. Because I have heard about sleeping directions I turned our bed into a differnt position. Now I get to sleep fairly quicckly and wake up during the night only once or not at all. I am also now free of pain in my feet. |

I have lived in this house for a year - I am a very, very light sleeper. I instinctly began flipping over - head at the foot - about a month after we moved in. I sleep much better that way. I don't really know why. Yep, I have to tear up the bed linens to do this) I find myself needing to do that probably 5 out of 7 nights.
I didn't even realize until this thread that the explaination could be a polarization thing.

Everything else remained the same (ie. temperature, no. of blankets, air flow etc., so I´m convinced that it is the sleeping direction that made the difference. |

I'm glad someone mentioned it. If you look into the Emerald Tablets of Thoth it gives advice on sleeping with your head oriented towards a certain direction for one hour, and then in another direction for another hour. '
Edgar Cayce might have mentioned something similar as well. tawachioforion@yahoo.com<br>

We found in a former investigation that by measuring sleep parameters, the REM latency is shortened in the E-W position of sleepers compared with the N-S position. This paper reports on a further neurological observation in humans concerning the influence of the earth's magnetic field: there are statistically significant differences in the EEG of normal subjects, depending on whether the subjects sit facing the N-S or E-W direction. The difference is especially pronounced in the alpha-power.

In an earlier study it was shown that an isotonic salt solution within a measuring chamber of a cytopherometer is rotating caused by Lorentz forces, if the magnetic earth field crosses the electric field in the chamber. This may be a model of the ability of certain higher organisms to recognize the direction of the magnetic earth field. The topic of this study was the possible effect of the magnetic earth field in humans. It is shown that the duration of REM latency is influenced by the position of sleepers in N-S or E-W direction: it is shortened in E-W direction (p = 0.02).

in all honestly i haven't noticed any difference at all, maybe thats because i dont really think it makes any real difference. maybe it's just a matter of believeing that you'll sleep better or worse that actually causes you to act as such. A psychologist could probably answer this one for us.
the only difference i notice is when one half of the matress has weaker springs than the other... :P |
