No, they were in the mall already before he started shooting. this was reported on MSNBC yesterday.

just looking at the pics again on cnn, what struck me as odd was the camera would have to be at face level to get that shot, have you ever seen a camera at that level? the ones i have seen are all above head level, looking down,, seems really odd Quoting: malu

Julie said she heard noise getting closer, but she didn't know what had happened. Hmmm...that head on face level shot is interesting. I've installed about a bazillion security cameras in commercial buildings, and never once in a position to capture an image like that.
Also, they were reporting on the radio last night he used an SKS, but that is definitely an AK.

I don't think so. You can pick up a model 56 for $150.

first, that pic of the SKS is with an aftermarket extended mag,20 rounder, not standard issue
second, the pics i have seen it is clearly an AK, which btw, do come in semi automatic, by far the majority of them in the USA come in semi auto, $300 is a normal price |

I own one and have used the other, so I am not unfamiliar, my question to you is where are you looking at this definitive photo, because the only one I have seen of the weapon is the one with him holding up the rifle in the single undated/timestamped image and that isn't clear enough to make that determination. Where do you see the rear sight or gas tube?
Anyway, I went to look at the directory for the mall and there is no "Ready To Wear", so what's that on the camera?
