Nanjing Road in Shanghai, used to be British concession. The Jewish merchants there wanted to obtain British citizenship and didn't succeed, so to appeal to the British the Jewish merchants paved the entire avenue (every square inch) in hardwood flooring. Not like the hardwood flooring they sell now. They are like a ft. thick. They got their British citizenships. |
