There is something called N-acetyl-cysteine... NAC for short-I believe it comes as an injectible for pneumonia patients...it must be done by a physician or in the hospital.
It is amazing stuf...it clears the bronchial tubes, cleanses the liver, is a powerful anti-oxidnet & builds the glutathione level which is the major foundation of the immune system...after you get your lungs cleared up,take 2-600mgs a day as a maintenance dose. Google it and see...as for the numbness and heart thing, that sounds like a circulatory thing...Aerobic 7 is a buffered oxygen supplement that works great, but this heart thing sounds almost like a blockage or something...keep up the cayenne for sure...the vitamin c etc. list is good as is the tea tree oil vaporizor treatment...even the menthol crystals...but the NAC is your best, most immediate bet...good luck
P.S. Yarrow tea soothes the lungs if they are irritated...

My first thought is you are on the wrong antibiotic~it is a tetracycline derivative. You need one more specific to chest infections~Levaquin/Avelox are the best but Biaxin will do.
Sharp pain(especilly with deep inspiration)sounds like pleurisy~antiinflammatory will help.
Extreme sharp pain with SOB sounds like pleural effusion~get to hosp.
Looks like previous responses have the natural remedies covered. Sometimes antibiotics are needed though~with a chest infection of this duration they are warranted in my opinion.

+1 from another RN who often works with bacterial pneumonia patients (fungal pneumonia also, but that's a different animal). I assume that since OP was prescribed an antibiotic, the M.D. tested and ruled out viral pneumonia, against which any antibiotic would be useless.

Find a Bowen Therapy practitioner and ask them to do the respiratory procedure. You will likely need to receive low back, upper back and neck procedures in first visit and then have respiratory second visit. Sometimes the nervous system gets stuck in an unhealthy pattern. Bowen helps your body remember what the normal pattern is so that it can get past the blocks and re-start the healing process.

Another important consideration is that you may have developed a food allergy... in particular, a wheat allergy. Try stopping the wheat grass. If that does not work (it can take a month) then try eliminating another food. Best way to find out what food allergies you have is to find a doctor who uses electro-dermal screening. Kinesiology is also very good if the person is very experienced at it.

Colloidial silver has also been showing excellent results at the naturopathic doctor's office where I work part-time. OUrs is made by www.natural-immunogenics.com They are based in FL

Be well.

Re: I have pneumonia and I can't seem to get over it. Any suggestions?
The naturopathic remedy for pneumonia is elderberry and peppermint. Garlic on the soles of the feet in the lung area (behind the toes on the pad of the foot for about 2 inches up and all the way across) is another holistic remedy. You crush the garlic, spread it on the feet and cover with plastic wrap and then a warm towel. Lie down for 30 minutes and by then you will be breathing out garlic fumes because it has traveled through the bloodstream throughout the body. It kills bacteria. The first remedy kills the bacteria but does not get the fluid out of the lungs. You need an expectorant for that. Sounds though like you have more than pneumonia going on. You probably need professional medical evaluation and nutritional analysis by someone in the know, maybe a holistic practitioner. You eat a great diet, but something important might be missing. The planet has never been so polluted and we've never been hit with so many noxious energies as of late. That in itself takes a heavy toll on a person's health.

I have had pneumonia twice. You can take the antibiotic as instructed and it will clear up the pneumonia. The tired feeling, however, lasted a month or two more for me. Pneumonia takes a lot out of you for a long time. You should be over the coughing part by now. If not, I would recommend you return to the doctor. You may need another round of antibiotics or a different kind of antibiotic.

If you have a farmers market or specialty produce place near you, try to get a fresh horseradish root. Big ugly looking thing. Shave off the outer "bark" with a knife, then grate the white inner root into a dish. Put your face right over it and BREATHE DEEPLY. This will clear the nasal passages in a big way! Then chew up some of the grated root or mix it with a little apple cider vinegar and you have the same stuff you get in a jar in the supermarket, only more fresh and potent. Eat that horseradish, loaded with vitamin C and other antiviral, antibacterial properties.

You mentioned also that you were having heart palpitations and jerking or twitching. That is usually a magnesium deficiency. If you feel you are getting enough magnesium in your diet, you may not be absorbing it properly. You may also be getting excessive amounts of potassium which may be throwing out magnesium. Malic acid (found in fresh apples), increases absorption of magnesium. The heart will not beat regularly without adequate magnesium. Deficiencies will also cause muscle twitching or spasm or restless leg syndrome.

I keep several of these around and give them to freinds when they get sick.
I have resorted to this because they just don't believe it until they try it.

They are amazed at how something so simple and cheap got them well. They speak about how everytime they start to get sick they pull it out and use it and they don't end up getting sick.

I have tried damn near everything and nothing comes close to the effect this little device has on "bugs" in your body.

I don't sell them but I damn sure think that a national health plan should include one of these for every family. If a person is able to avoid just one illness (trip to the doctor or pharmacy) and/or missing work, it has paid for itself!!

It is similar to a zapper but in my opnion much better and mor effective.

It's called a "pulser" and it is made by Sota. Hell, if you look on the internet you can even find plans on how to buid one! This thing works and it is appropriately refered to as the "21st century first aid kit".

Re: I have pneumonia and I can't seem to get over it. Any suggestions?
I am reading all these posts about pneumonia. My 4 year old son and myself got sick around the beginning of September, and everyone kept telling me it was "allergies." I live in Austin, TX, where allergies are high, yet I have never had any. So, after about a week or two of this, I was wondering if the ragweed and molds went down, because I was still coughing. My son had clear drainage from his nose, but one day just petered out and I took him to the doctor. Sinus infection. Okay, he got treated with antibiotics, and got a little better. I ended up in the ER 3 times, with symptoms getting worse. On the 3rd time, someone finally did an x-ray, and found the pneumonia. This was in October. I went through two simultaneous antibiotics, and went for a follow up with my doctor a little more than a week later.....still had it. I am now almost done with my 3rd antibiotic, and am not coughing up anything at all. I drink water like crazy, my appetite is almost none existant.
So, my 4 year old son (premature, and has had problems) went back to his doctor 3 times, and he said he just has a cold. Mothers know - I took him to the ER of the hospital I work for, and they said the same thing about him "lungs are clear," and I demanded an x-ray of him, too, since that what the doctors kept telling me.

So, we are both on antibiotics, he's coughing like crazy, sounds like things are moving, but it's the same as it's been for 2 months. At this time I am sort of scared, because pneumonia kills, and he's so little, and his immune system is so underdeveloped.
I have had it now (diagnosed) for 3 1/2 weeks. I can at least say I can walk and move around again. I can't get him to sit still, but his appetite is gone, and he goes to sleep around 6pm now, wakes up at 6:30 for school.

Is there ANYTHING else someone can suggest? I sing a lot, I do the deep breathing, I try to cough stuff out, nothing happens. I get him to blow his nose, and it's a never ending mess.

I know this is long, and if anyone takes the time to read and respond, I would truly appreciate it.

Here, this one is a secret picked up in biology class.

Go buy a bottle of vitamin C pills.

One a day will kill off whatever you have, and is good for the body.

Breathing oil of oregano will help. Look up oil of oregano and you will see that it has been used as a staple medicine where it was available since ancient times for lung problems. You could diffuse it or maybe in a pot of hot water for the steam. I would try to keep it in the air of your home continually until you are both well.
We also use elderberry syrup (product called Sambucol) every time we get ill and it is perfectly safe for little ones. A GREAT antiviral as is the oil of oregano. Give him the Sambucol...elderberry syrup...it is easy to give to kids because it tastes sweet and will really help boost his immune system in a natural way. Hope you both get well soon!!

Re: I have pneumonia and I can't seem to get over it. Any suggestions?
I'll give a little background info about myself first. Regarding my health, I do just about everything right. I eat healthy. I drink a glass of spirulina and wheatgrass everyday. I take certain herbs every day. I even take a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses everyday. I'm very careful about what I put into my body. I don't eat junkfood. I don't drink soda pops. I don't use fluoridated toothpastes. I only use natural deodorants, shampoos, soaps, etc. I had one bad vice and that smoking, but I quit that as well.

By doing all of these things, I would have thought my immune system was in tip top shape. But about the 3rd week in September, I came down with the flu. It was a rough one. I had a fever, chills, and a deep cough for about 3 weeks. Then the deep cough in my chest turned into a dry cough in my throat. It seemed like the symptoms were going way, but I still didn't feel well. I just felt extremely tired and run down all the time.

About the second week in October, I felt a little pain in my left armpit and the left side of my breast bone. That went away after a couple of days and I didn't think much more about it. Then the last week of October, I was walking fast and got a sudden sharp pain in my left shoulder and the left side of my chest. A few days later I started getting this rushing feeling throughout the left side of my body. Sometimes I would have shoulder pain on that side, and sometimes my entire left side would feel numb. The rushing feeling I was getting made it feel like my heart was going to stop. I started to freak out so I went to the emergency room. They did an EKG and blood test, and took some chest X-rays. They couldn't find anything wrong. They said my heart and lungs looked fine. They thought my symptoms might be due to withdrawal since I had recently stopped smoking.

So I went home hoping I would get better, but I got worse instead. I started eating 5 fresh gloves of garlic a day. I tried olive leaf extract. I started consuming lots of fresh fruit and fruit juices. I was still getting the feeling my heart was going to stop, and I'd get so freaked out I'd run to grab some cayenne pepper and drink it down really fast in case I was having a heart attack. In the meantime, I started to get short on breath. Sometimes I could barely talk before running out of breath.

I ended up back in the emergency room last Tuesday night and once again they did an EKG, blood tests and chest X-rays. This time they found I had pneumonia. I'm sure I had it the first time I went too, because that was one of the things I suspected could be wrong with me. They said I have a little bit on my left side and they gave me some antibiotics. They gave me a print out with instructions, and the print out says that you should start feeling better in 2 or 3 days. Today is my 5th day on the antibiotics and I'm still feeling like crap. My breathing is a little better, but that's the only thing that has changed. I still feel weak, and I'm still getting that rushing feeling on the left side of my body at times that makes it feel like my heart is going to stop. And the entire left side of my body goes numb when this happens.

Shouldn't I be noticing an improvement with the antibiotics by now? I'm not a big fan of antibiotics anyway, but since I rarely ever take them, I was hoping they would work. I'm wondering if it's just taking them longer to work because I've had it for so long since the doctors didn't find it the first time I went to the emergency room.

I'm continuing to take my garlic, cayenne, and other natural things, and I'm worried and trying to prevent the spread of infection to my bloodstream. I have an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow, but I don't know how much he'll do for me. It's at some clinic because I don't have insurance. I've always been able to treat and heal myself naturally with herbs and food, but even this hasn't helped and I'm getting desperate. It's not been easy to write all this because I'm feeling that rushing feeling where it feels like my heart is going to stop right now, but I'm trying to ignore it. If anyone has any suggestions to help me get over this, I'm open to anything. I was even going to drink my own urine in the morning, until I read that you shouldn't do it if you're taking certain medications like antibiotics. But I'm to the point where I'm willing to try just about anything. I just want to get over this so I can get back to my once happy life.

To all who take the time to read this..thank you and God Bless!

Yes, 2.

Lugol's iodine applied topically and allowed to be absorbed through the skin, and two, orange juice to drink.

See 'Nips Up' on this forum.

Iodine is a great antiseptic, immune system builder and regulator of metabolism. It concentrates in the Thyroid gland, the thymus gland, saliva, stomach mucosa, skin and choroid plexus of the brain where cerebrospinal fluid is made.

OP, I had pneumonia last fall. It hurt so bad...and I'm not one to go to a Dr, but my grandson called my Dr and she said to get me to the hospital.

I credit my grandson with keeping me alive.

They admitted me and within an hour, I felt better...probably had some pain meds.

I stayed 3 days. Being in the hospital is the way to go with pneumonia. I didn't know pleurisy was pneumonia, but I do now.

Here, this one is a secret picked up in biology class.

Go buy a bottle of vitamin C pills.

One a day will kill off whatever you have, and is good for the body.

Some of the oldest people in the world attribute their long life spans to taking a lot of it.

LMAO...you do realize, don't you, that you are providing advice to someone who had pneumonia in December of 2007??!

LOL...another time shift?

.

OMG....talk about a mindfuck....

When I read this thread all of the dates through the third page said 2007. When I went back after posting, page three posts said 11/2008.

OK...I am definitely going to bed. But before I do, my apologies to the AC addressed in my previous post.

Oh well. I'm the OP of this thread and I'm still not completely well. The pneumonia is gone, but the heart thumping and other symptoms are still there. I am much stronger, but I have lived with the thumping for a year now. Every single day. I've had plenty of tests. My heart is fine. I have many digestive problems these days. I've had several wrong diagnosis. The symptoms come and go, including the heart thumping. It is always there, but usually gets worse every 3-4 week. I'm really beginning to think it's parasites. Have been on a parasite cleanse for about a week now. I've spoken with many people in the health field including a shaman. I described my symptoms to him and he felt it was parasites. Time will tell, I suppose.

Re: I have pneumonia and I can't seem to get over it. Any suggestions?
I know this is an old thread but I'm going to respond anyway, in case there are people reading this who either have pneumonia themselves or know someone who does.

When I had pneumonia recently, the doctors gave me one round of antibiotics and they were not strong enough. I had to have another round that was almost twice as strong and this was partially done intravenously in the hospital. I also had similar heart problems, as described by the poster in this thread. Heart trouble and pneumonia seem to go hand in hand and I think it's pretty common. My theory is that because of the lack of oxygen to the lungs, the heart has to work harder and it gets *tired* out (kind of like the affects of sleep apnea). If this keeps up long enough, it could turn into a serious heart condition, but if the pneumonia is cured soon enough, then the heart should gradually recover as oxygen levels return to normal and are sustained.

All I can say to people out there is this: if your antibiotics aren't working, get to the doctor right away! They will either have to determine what kind of pneumonia you have (antibiotics don't work on all varieties of pneumonia) or they will have to give you different, stronger antibiotics. If you're trying to save money, be aware that if you don't go to the doctor NOW, you may end up in the hospital (like I did) and that will be far more expensive than just dropping in for an office visit and getting an additional diagnosis and a new prescription. The point is, DON'T WAIT! The longer you wait, the worse it will get. As for recovery time, the first thing to understand is that you won't recover until you get the right treatment. AFTER you've been properly treated with the right medicine, it may take as long as a month, or even longer before you will start to feel *normal* again. Even then, you will have some good days and bad days. Your heart will take some time to recover and heal as well, so the best thing to do is rest, rest, rest!

Try some echinacea,Golden seal and some Manuka or any high quality organic honey.Put the honey on some toast daily.Cut out milk products if you consume any until you are better.Dairy makes more mucus. Also, sprinke some flax over your food. It's AN OMGEGA3 and that will hep your immune system as well. The honey is a natural anti inflammatory and has some anti viral qualities as well.Eat lots of cabbage.Cabbage is also an antinflammatory.

one more thing. If you can, request an ultrasound of you chest area breasts, heart etc.The xrays can be so vague. They told my mom she had pneumonia last month and two months before but she really has emphysema she would have thought for months longer it was pneumonia but she pushed for further tests.
