Quoting: Anonymous Coward 329369Well, considering this is reported by a CHINESE media service, and China is no friend of Israel, I think it is safe to say it was the militants. Otherwise China would expose deception, wouldn't they? :dohreg: "As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. Gaza militant groups continue rocket attacks at Israel Quoting: mal'akGAZA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Several Palestinian militant groups based in Gaza claimed responsibility on Monday for launching homemade rockets and mortar shells at Israel. The Popular Resistance Committee's armed wing said in a press statement that its militants launched a homemade rocket in the morning at the Israeli settlement of Tushiya on the borders between east Gaza Strip and Israel. Also, the armed wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) claimed responsibility for launching a homemade rocket at the Israeli town of Sdeort, northeast of the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile the military wing of Islamic Jihad, the Al-Quds Brigades, said their militants detonated a large explosive device at an Israeli infantry force stationed east of the town of Khuza'a in the southern Gaza Strip. They said in a press statement that the explosion from the bomb injured Israeli troops as ambulance sirens were heard in the area. Al-Aqsa Brigades, the military wing of Fatah, also said they launched two homemade rockets at Sderot. They said the attack was part of a campaign what they are calling "Gaza Autumn," in response to "ongoing Israeli atrocities committed against the Palestinian people." Israeli Radio quoted Israeli army spokesman as saying that a homemade rocket landed in a factory in Sderot, causing severe damages, but no injuries were reported. Link: [link to news.xinhuanet.com] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 338597Attack? You call 10 tanks entering half a mile into Gaza an "attack"? That is more of a police like operation... Palestinian Presidency condemns Gaza offensive as bid to thwart talks. Spokesman for Palestinian Presidency Tuesday accused Israel of trying to thwart final status talks due to kick off Wednesday by launching offensive against the Gaza Strip. "The Israeli government's determination to continue the offensives, assassinations and expanding settlements boost the doubts about the Israeli intentions regarding the negotiations," spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah told reporters. Israeli troops backed by tanks pushed two km into southern Gaza since this morning, killing four Palestinian militants. "This is an awful crimes and aggression," Abu Rdainah said, adding that "It is difficult to go on with the negotiation process under the assassinations, deliberate killing, land confiscation and other procedures that don't suit the spirit of the peace process." Israeli and Palestinian sides agreed at a U.S.-hosted peace conference held last month in Annapolis, Maryland that negotiations over final status issues, namely Jerusalem, borders, settlements and Palestinian refugees, would begin on Dec. 12. [link to english.people.com.cn] ===== A police operation? Gaza is sovereign territory with self government. An attack was a nice way to describe Israel's actions. I would have been just as accurate to call it an invasion. If you think it is a police action than do you also think that Palestinians in Gaza should have all the rights accorded citizens of Israel? Shouldnt a police action be protecting ordinary people against criminals? Or is Gaza an Israeli prison, a Guantanamo dumping ground, where excess subhumans can be mercilessly ground to dust? What's happening as I understand it, is that Olmert wants to push Bush's idea of a seperate Palestinian state. At all costs is to avoid a one state solution from gaining international traction (ie "the end of the so called Jewish State"). Palestinians who are negotiating for a two state solution are not representative of the majority (since it would be enshrining the apartheid politic, where Palestinians would be in a perpetual state of division and weakness.... IMO the two state "solution" is a recipe for disaster for the Palestinians (and Israel). |
