Anonymous Coward User ID: 346528 United Kingdom 12/28/2007 01:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] something odd I've notice about all the Eqs popping lately. The ones in the Dominican Republic/Virgin island region, seem to happen in a batch, then the ones in the Andreanoff island region seem to happen in a batch as well, as if they are somehow connected, as silly as that sounds. If you draw a line on Google Earth between the 2 areas, Yellowstone is almost smack in the middle and slightly to the south of the two areas. Something to think about, that's all. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 304696 United States 12/31/2007 07:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | BILLINGS — Even by Yellowstone National Park standards, Giant geyser is a show-stopper. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 288504When it erupts, it shoots a roaring, splashing column of water and steam often higher than its more predictable and famous cousin, Old Faithful. Problem is, Giant is fickle, going months, even longer than a year, without erupting before suddenly coming back to life. This is one of those times. Over the last two years, the erratic geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin has been busy, erupting with a frequency not seen since the 1950s. It’s been a kick for those lucky enough to see it. “It’s just thrilling an awful lot of people,” said T. Scott Bryan, author of “The Geysers of Yellowstone,” who has been tracking Giant’s activity. “So many people have been able to see it for the first time.” In recent months, Giant has been erupting roughly every five to eight days. Surprised passers-by have been treated to eruptions 200 feet or higher. [link to www.montanastandard.com] Damn! Thats taller than the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. |

A geyser is basicly a vent for steam from water that is in contact with hot magma. I would be more worried if it suddenly stopped. As for the animals there are certain areas in Yellowstone where gasses like carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide is seeping out of the ground killing animals. In the rest of the park it's business as usual. |
