Drudge Report misrepresents Ron Paul on front page...
"When fascism comes it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross..."

- Sinclair Lewis

-----------------------------

This famous quote by Sinclair Lewis is featured on Drudge Report, but the headline says "Ron Paul:"...making it look as if Ron Paul said this.

But if Ron Paul said this he was quoting Lewis...

Does anyone know where Ron Paul quoted this?

On the Fox interview this morning. The interviewer said, Gee, I don't think Huckabee is a fascist. Stupid moron was told it was a quote by Lewis.

I can't wait to see the video...

So Ron Paul corrected him?

Good.

But the sad part is that people rarely look deeper these days, so they will run with the headline - "Ron Paul says Christians are fascists!" - and people will just read the headline and take it as truth...

So sad to watch.

And another - "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" 1775

What candidate wraps himself in "the constitution" an his so-called definition of "freedom" more than Ron Paul. Nobody. The cult-like brownshirt attitude of his followers also ought to tell you something.

Either way, he didn't say it in reference to Huckabee...they just put it together. A cross has been used in many things such as the crusades, a religious war which we seem to be fighting now. They know that Ron Paul is the only candidate that SHOULD get the christian vote but are trying to make it seem like he hates christians so that the idiots vote for Huckabee.

Be still my heart. Drudge misrepresented info??

I will never believe anything a gay republican says. If they lie to themselves, why wouldnt they lie to us?? Repubs have more gay reps than dems. Why? Why do repubs attract so many gays?

These guys have to live a lie by not coming out, so probably makes politics a natural for them.

It actually is quite a shocking quote, because it is 100% truth, it's almost prophetic, eh?

Blind patriotism and Christianity seem to make a good match for each each other.

Which I find humorous because biblical Jesus was such a rebel...he railed against TPTB all the time in the bible, you would think that Christians would take a lesson from this.

Strange days indeed.

Didn't say it in Reference to Huckabee? lmao...WTF video did you watch? Doocy was gunning for RP obviously...started out...

SD: Congressman and Presidential Hopeful Ron Paul in Des Moines, he joins us live, good morning to ya congressman.

RP: Good, good morning I'm in Des Moines, Des Moines Iowa. (Ron Paul coughin and clearing throat, looks tired)

SD: Ok that's good, we're glad to hear that. (total condescending tone and attitude, as if he really wanted to say, "Oh that is Des Moines Iowa? Good thing you cleared that up because we don't want people getting it confused with Des Moines Wisconsin or anything, you fuckin dolt" Ron just smiles and nods.)

SD: Gretchen is gonna go into the whole thing about how you raised the money in a minute or so, but I wanted to ask you about something. Mike Huckabee has started running an ad in Iowa where you're at right now and also in New Hampshire and South Carolina and in the back, it's a window pane, but it looks a lot like a cross, and we had a guest a little while ago who said he thought it was inappropriate to be using religion for political purposes. Congressman I'm just curious what you think?

RP: Well I haven't thought about it completely but it reminds of what Sinclair, ah ah, Lewis once said he said when Fascism (little guffaw) comes to this country it will come wrapped in the flag carrying a cross. I don't know whether that's a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross like he is the only Christian or implying that subtly, so I don't esp....I don't I think would ever use anything like that.

SD: (more than one person starts talking because they just can't wait to jump on that one) Well I certainly don't think..(stutter a bit, looks aside to other talker, smiles like he just shit a solid Platinum bowling ball, because he pretty much just did) ya know Governor Huckabee is not selling Fascism, ah...he's simply sending out a Christmas message. Anyway just curious how you felt about that.....

Leads away and Ron Paul nods like he just got corrected by his Mommy for touching himself or something....

The reason that is on Drudge is because it is a good sized fuck up that makes Ron Paul look like a blithering retard. Cross in a Christmas message is Fascism? lol...oh yeah that is going to get played a whole bunch of times. Wait for a comment from the Huckabee camp along the lines "Well if Ron Paul thinks an Image of a cross in a Christmas message is Fascism that is just sad. Christmas is about Christ and this country was founded on Christian principals and even though the image was of window, we are not ashamed of that being seen as a cross and it certainly has nothing whatsoever to with Fascism, INSERT BIG FAT LAUGH HERE AND POINT AT OLD GOOFBALL WHO SEES FASCISTS COMING OUT OF THE WOOD WORK IN CHRISTMAS MESSAGES"

LMAO....watch this get a few miles on it, shoulda drank an extra "Ensure" this morning Ron, you got pwned on that one.

.....and things haven't even started to rough yet, just gettin goin, gotta stay frosty and that was a decent stumble-bumble. It will be used against him, and it will be effectively used too...you Ron Paul can do no wrong people are not the majority.

Thanks SHR. When I posted that, the vid was not on drudge...just the quote. I watched it, he was saying it about Huckster and it was hilarious. I thought that idiot from fox was going to choke on his tongue. What do they expect? When you ask Ron Paul a question, he is going to give you a real answer about what he thinks. Not some pussy politician dance-around-the-issue answer. Like he said, Huckabee is whoring himself around the campaign trail like he is the only christian running.
Fascism: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control.
Huckabee wants to round up all the Aids victims and put them in a camp, tell us what we can and cannot eat, keep women "in their place". Sounds about right to me.

Umm...okay, but that would be totally out of context of the Sinclair qoute, or the thread...

Should I do this just to be politically correct?

I don't really care for that concept myself.

And I don't see other religions embracing patriotism as fanatically as American Christians are right now, so if I were to say so, would it even be true?

I know you probably don't care for it, but if it weren't for the neo-cons using Christianity to install fascism, then Bush would never have won the election.

It's well known that Christians are the core of his "base".

Don’t get me wrong Islamic Guy,…I think you are an astute poster and very thoughtful.

I think you get my drift, but are playing hard to get.

Are you saying Islamic fundies rally around no flag?

That the Muslim religion is not entwined with your Government and vise-a-versa?

I agree with all you have say here, btw. It’s just that,…

It feels incomplete.

No I'll concede that, look at the Iranians for example, they often use "the external enemy" to rally people around the flag...

All governments do this to some degree.

Christians that ascribe to blind patriotism, at the expense of the teachings of the bible, are not really being Christian.

I would also say that of ANY other religion that does this, is also doing so at the expense of their religion.

Perhaps because I openly post as "Islamic_Guy", I should be more careful to not make it sound like I'm singling out Christians...even though in this case I sort of am...

I get what you're saying though, thanks for correcting me.
