Stock-breeders in Spain this morning because animal feed has gone up 40% in a matter of months.

The official reason is that grain prices are being pushed up by the biofuel industry.

I grew up on a farm. You know how much your harvest is ... and will be even before it gets off the field. What kind of shuck-n-jive they giving us? So where did all the food go that they THOUGHT we had? And just which producers of what food comodities are they talking about?

Probably more of that paper accounting they are so good at!

Makes sense! Cutting good grain sources for uses other than food cuts into the food chain.

forgive me, im dumb...."world food supply"? do we have silos which measure the "worlds" daily quota/rations for this? I don't believe a word of it, sorry. If you said "third world nations" food supply is in shortage, then maybe. just more hysterical sensationalism.

I agree. This area (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana etc) all have had great crops for the last few years. There is no shortage, period.

If anything, they are trying to prepare people for one of two things. Natural disasters from the end of the ice age, or world war.

The government is using all of our corn that is grown for ethanol and not saving hardly any for human consumption.

The Gov't (Canada/Australia/United States/Europe/etc/etc) actually pay farmers not to grow things and pay dairy famers not to produce milk in order to keep prices higher.

if you have five acres you can feed ten people easily, i don't know what the ratio of people to farmland is, but i would be willing to bet there is enough to feed ten billion people from what i have read
