The chemical that they are putting in these has been irritating my throat and nose. The chemical is ethylene vinyl acetate. It is the same chemical that is in hot glue and foam rubber. Take a look at the MSDS [link to specchem-apps.alliedsignal.com] this stuff cant be good for you. Not that smoking is good for you. |

Unfortunately, that will only hurt the tobacco companies and therefore smokers unless you can prove that the government KNEW the FSC cigarettes were harmful (which might be possible if you can find published studies by the government on the effects of inhaling this junk). |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 857090 01/04/2010 03:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From this link: [link to www.arnoldlobby.com] Coincidentally, legislation filed in Missouri, HB 205 and SB 220, and supported by the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes mandates the use of the banded LIP cigarette paperî patented by Schweitzer-Mauduit International/Philip Morris as the only means of meeting the fire safe standard when cigarette paper with lowered permeability bands is used. Section 320.353. 2. of both the House and Senate bill states: Each cigarette listed in a certification submitted under section 320.356 that uses lowered permeability bands in the cigarette paper to achieve compliance with the performance standard set forth in this section shall have at least two nominally identical bands on the paper surrounding the tobacco column. At least one complete bank shall be located at least fifteen millimeters from the lighting end of the cigarette. For cigarettes on which the bands are positioned by design, there shall be at least two bands fully located at least fifteen millimeters from the lighting end and ten millimeters from the filter end of the tobacco column, or ten millimeters from the labeled end of the tobacco column for nonfiltered cigarettes. There ís only one reason for including a section like this in the proposed law It ís to guarantee that only one LIP cigarette paper manufacturer, Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. and its patent partner Philip Morris an exclusive on meeting the new Fire-Safe Cigarette standard. |

I am however fairly certain that these guys are funding and sponsoring the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes through the NFPA and various medical associations which Kimberly-Clark OBVIOUSLY has influence over (especially medical associations). |
| Bogus cigarettes User ID: 857778 01/05/2010 11:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There's a Havard study out there from a couple of years ago that shows that several known cancer causers are boosted by the FSC. THis is a nation-wide push by Altria (Philip Morris parent) to limit their liability. They have the "speed bump" paper standard written into the law. If the government mandates it, they are responsible for defending it. Get the pix? |
| Jrod User ID: 860619 01/09/2010 03:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah, this is a load of horseshit. I could tell immediately that they did something different. I thought I got a bad pack. I think it started around the end of October here in MI. I didn't know anything about this because I usually only smoke when I drink. I smoked a pack a day for quite a few years, but have been cutting back, because basically at work now they charge you extra for health care if you smoke. Let's be honest here folks. None of us are going to live forever. If I were to get cancer from smoking, oh well. I'm not one of the kinds of people to say spend millions trying to save me. I wouldn't say I hate life, but it's going to end someday, and I would rather die than get poked and proded and filled with poison to try to kill cancer cells and maybe if I'm one of the lucky 20% or less, I may go into remission and live for a few more years. My Dad's best friend died of cancer. He never smoked one day in his life. He wouldn't allow it in his house. We live 20 miles from a Dow Chemical plant. I worked there. You know how many chemical releases they have in a week? I swear they were telling us not to leave the building and to shut the air handlers down all the time. So, what do we have now? Communist America. Thanks. You can't find a real cigarette anymore. You can try rolling your own, but nothing tastes like an old Marlboro light lit by a zippo. I'd smoke a pack here in there over the past few years, and I'm really pissed off that my rights to do that have been taken away. I can deal with the not smoking in restaurants. I can even put up with not being able to smoke in a bar anymore. But now, you don't even have the choice to buy a decent tasting cigarette, at seven dollars a pack. See, they tax you to death on these things, and they are shooting themselves in the foot. Where are they going to make up all the taxes when we quit? My State is already in the shitter and has been for years. They should be promoting smoking. It's probably some of the only taxes they are getting since 20% of the people in this state are either unemployed or underemployed. Take a look around. McDonald's is killing more people than cigarettes. Video games and sedentary lifestyles are killing way more people than cigarettes. Hell, All the garbage they are putting into our food supply trying to skate around using sugar will end up killing more people than cigarettes. Well, I should say, the old cigarettes. I have no doubt these FSC cigarettes will kill you. They taste horrible, and burn your throat. They cause headaches and make me very irritable, as to where a smoke used to relax me a bit. I don't smoke enough to go get a rolling machine, buy a humidor, buy a bag of tobacco, tubes and roll my own, even though you would save so much money, it's stupid. I have heard after the initial investment for the rolling machine, you can do a pack for about 8 to ten bucks. You know what I love too? Phillip Morris. Fuckin Hippocrates. They put all this shit about quitting smoking on their site. Do they really want you to quit? Wouldn't that put them out of business? It would be like McDonalds promoting healthy living and selling you double quarter pounders with cheese, gobs of fries and 40 oz of coke. It's pretty american though. We like to send our jobs over seas, and promote the welfare and child support systems, reward lazy fucks for doing nothing more than holding their hands out, and sitting on the couch watching the springer show. I'm taking the extra money I will save by not smoking and buying some guns and ammo while we can still do that. I'm sure that we'll all be defending our land sometime soon. Good luck! Oh Yeah, Japan smokes way more than we do. I'm sure that you can get non fsc cigs from there or maybe mexico. They encourage smoking in Japan. It's great for population control. |

I would love to postthe coment regarding alchol on facebook if this would be ok with you. I roll my own now, tired of being treated like a 2nd class citzen. Smokers pay taxes, vote and work. We have rights like all Americans! Let's fight for them. Peace luv Colleen I had no idea that they were changing cigarettes. I thought I had a bad batch when they kept going out. Bought more from another store and got the same thing. A few days in, my whole mouth and throat was sore, and thought I was getting the flu. Like many of you, I will probably quit. That is a CHOICE I should have been able to make for myself. Rolling your own is an alternative for the time being, but they will change the papers too. I've had to hear how they make my hair and clothes smell, how I'm harming other people around me, how I'm hurting myself, how dirty they think my house is. They tell me this will save thousands more lives a year. PLEASE, PLEASE tell me how many lives could have been saved each year if they took the alcohol out of beer and whiskey, make it super thick and chunky so it would take a long time to consume, and make it taste like puke. How many would it save? Does smoking make you walk or talk differently? Does it make you go home and smack your wife and kids around? Does it make you use dirty language? Does it alter the way you reason? Does it alter the way you drive? Does it alter any of your behavior? THE ANSWER IS NO. SO DRINKING ALCOHOL IS ALL RIGHT??? I hope everybody in America (if you still want to call it that) stops smoking. Where, Oh Where, are they going to get the tax dollars then? ALCOHOL PERHAPS?? Gee, wouldn't that be a shame? Hey, guys. I smoked for over 40 years, and I was up to 1.5 packs of Merits a day at the end. I stopped tobacco cigarettes in one day through using the e-cigarette, also known as a personal vaporizer. There was no pain, stress, suffering or climbing the walls. My neighbor smoked at least 1 pack of cigarettes a day for over 30 years. I gave her an e-cig, and she also stopped -- that day. I've been off the tobacco for over 1 month now, and already my smoker's cough is gone, I have tons of more energy, and my skin is glowing with health. I do NOT recommend the brand marketed by smokingeverywhere.com. I do not sell e-cigs or have any financial interest in them. I won't give any links, because I don't want my interest in this misunderstood, but you can google Joye 510 -- there are lots of sites sell them online. Get the starter kit. I also recommend the eGo by JantyUSA, but that is more money (although IMHO twice as good). Not only is your health worth giving the e-cig a shot, but you won't be handing all that tax money over to the state and fed governments, who barely spend a penny of it to help us smokers (or ex-smokers)anyway. I'll check this thread to see if anyone has any questions that I can answer. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 830846 01/16/2010 11:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can anyone tell me what the chemcial the put in the new FSC Cigarettes. I cannot find this info any where on the internet. Quoting: Kay 361592Hi e1 this is an email I got from a smoker thought you all needed to read this. I will not stop so hey help me out here. I got a call today from someone telling me to back off. I will not stop. I need your help. They can not get away with this!!!!!! Their threats do not scare me. I will go down fighting for all of us. Find out all you can. Kay Still fighting for our right to be heard. Hi kay; I think in my research I may have found out what's up with those cigarettes. They use an adhesive called ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion based adhesive. At least that it what one of the pattents for reduced ignition propensity cigarettes said was required. I looked up the chemical. It is the same adhesive used for glueing the backing on carpeting. It has shown to cause tumors in mice, but it is not know what it does to humans. Also, I read the metals such as aluminum are used to help keep the cigarette burning where the speed bumps aren't, or something like that. At any rate that explains the metal taste that I am left with. I think there is far more to this. I don't think they care at all about the 700-1000 lives that will be saved, or so they say will be saved. Also, the testing done did not prove conclusively that fsc would not ignite and start fires. What bothers me most is that the only testing done on these cigarettes was in relations to it fire safety. No tests were done as to the health risks created by the changing of the cigarettes. I also am very suspicious as to how they snuck this on us. We hardly heard anything at all about this till it went in to law. Another weird thing is that back in 2004-2005 I used to buy Marlboro's from an indian reservation in NY, they were cheaper. I noticed that the cigarettes went out, however, they did not have the smell, taste or affect that these FSC have now. I know now that the pilot test was done in NY. Everything in the passing of the FSC law was based on what happened in NY. But I can tell you, that the cigarettes in the pilot test in New York are NOT the same as the one's they are pawning off on us now. They changed them. I think we are being experimented on, against our knowledge and will, just as they did medical experiments on prisoners and children in the foster care system. No one cared about them to make a stink and now no one cares about the smoker because we have been made out to be evil bad people who are hated by the general populace. Anyway, as you can see, I am really pissed off about this whole thing. I wish there were something we can do. People are going to get very sick and some are going to die from these cigs. Anyway, gotta go to work. Thanks for Emailing me back. Nance First they came for the smokers cigarettes and then they came for the salt eaters. Chocolate will come next followed by beef, chicken and pork. Either stand up and raise hell or suck up all those chemicals. Your choice |

What to get to replace a 2 pack, menthol habit? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 848123For about $45 you can get a Joye510 starter kit -- 2 e-cigs so one is charging while you use the other. You can buy menthol "juice." I suggest you get a bottle of 24 mg/ml nicotine, and a bottle of 12 mg/ml, and use that. The eGo is available from JantyUSA.com, and is about $85. If you have the money, this is probably the best to start. I second the recommendation by TC that you read on e-cigarette-forum.com for good advice and suggestions. My favorite and cheap supplier for the Joye510 is mypvshop.com -- but this is a suggestion only. The important thing is that you try the e-cig to see if it will help you quit tobacco. It has made all the difference in the world to me. I never thought I would be able quit tobacco. |

| I'll rip ur FXcking head User ID: 868290 01/18/2010 04:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My god you are fucking stupid. They took the fucking potassium nitrate out of the tobacco. There is nothing in the paper. For once o the government has done something right to protect us and you ignorant assholes start to whine like an old woman with a stone in her pussy. Christ you are all fucking stupid. The only sane thing some of you said was that you were going to quit smoking. Good idea. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 319020My got the collective IQ of this thread is smaller than my hat size. Actualy it is in the papers! all those rings around the ciggarette's paper are the parts with added chemicals to make the ciggarette's go out. It actualy has made them more dangerous to smoke and its estimated the deaths caused by smoking will increase now that they have these added "fire retardant" chemicals |
