if you take a fcs cigg and a non fcs cig cut them open and compare them in the fsc cigg there is two thick lines on the top and bottom, when you light the paper it burns out at the two lines

So Florida has just switched over to FSC smokes and they are gross. The chemical that they are putting in these has been irritating my throat and nose. The chemical is ethylene vinyl acetate. It is the same chemical that is in hot glue and foam rubber. Take a look at the MSDS [link to specchem-apps.alliedsignal.com] this stuff cant be good for you. Not that smoking is good for you.

Nothing is going to stop it until someone has a complication from the FSC cigarettes, finds a way to prove it, and sues. Unfortunately, that will only hurt the tobacco companies and therefore smokers unless you can prove that the government KNEW the FSC cigarettes were harmful (which might be possible if you can find published studies by the government on the effects of inhaling this junk).

Coincidentally, legislation filed in Missouri, HB 205 and SB 220, and supported by the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes mandates the use of the banded LIP cigarette paperî patented by Schweitzer-Mauduit International/Philip Morris as the only means of meeting the fire safe standard when cigarette paper with lowered permeability bands is used.

Section 320.353. 2. of both the House and Senate bill states: Each cigarette listed in a certification submitted under section 320.356 that uses lowered permeability bands in the cigarette paper to achieve compliance with the performance standard set forth in this section shall have at least two nominally identical bands on the paper surrounding the tobacco column. At least one complete bank shall be located at least fifteen millimeters from the lighting end of the cigarette. For cigarettes on which the bands are positioned by design, there shall be at least two bands fully located at least fifteen millimeters from the lighting end and ten millimeters from the filter end of the tobacco column, or ten millimeters from the labeled end of the tobacco column for nonfiltered cigarettes.

There ís only one reason for including a section like this in the proposed law It ís to guarantee that only one LIP cigarette paper manufacturer, Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. and its patent partner Philip Morris an exclusive on meeting the new Fire-Safe Cigarette standard.

One of Dow Chemical's biggest customers is Kimberly-Clark (the parent company of Schweitzer-Mauduit), though I can't prove that is where Schweitzer-Mauduit International gets there ethylene vinyl acetate from just yet (though it probably is).

I am however fairly certain that these guys are funding and sponsoring the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes through the NFPA and various medical associations which Kimberly-Clark OBVIOUSLY has influence over (especially medical associations).

There's a Havard study out there from a couple of years ago that shows that several known cancer causers are boosted by the FSC. THis is a nation-wide push by Altria (Philip Morris parent) to limit their liability. They have the "speed bump" paper standard written into the law. If the government mandates it, they are responsible for defending it. Get the pix?

Yeah, this is a load of horseshit. I could tell immediately that they did something different. I thought I got a bad pack. I think it started around the end of October here in MI. I didn't know anything about this because I usually only smoke when I drink. I smoked a pack a day for quite a few years, but have been cutting back, because basically at work now they charge you extra for health care if you smoke. Let's be honest here folks. None of us are going to live forever. If I were to get cancer from smoking, oh well. I'm not one of the kinds of people to say spend millions trying to save me. I wouldn't say I hate life, but it's going to end someday, and I would rather die than get poked and proded and filled with poison to try to kill cancer cells and maybe if I'm one of the lucky 20% or less, I may go into remission and live for a few more years. My Dad's best friend died of cancer. He never smoked one day in his life. He wouldn't allow it in his house. We live 20 miles from a Dow Chemical plant. I worked there. You know how many chemical releases they have in a week? I swear they were telling us not to leave the building and to shut the air handlers down all the time.

So, what do we have now? Communist America. Thanks. You can't find a real cigarette anymore. You can try rolling your own, but nothing tastes like an old Marlboro light lit by a zippo. I'd smoke a pack here in there over the past few years, and I'm really pissed off that my rights to do that have been taken away. I can deal with the not smoking in restaurants. I can even put up with not being able to smoke in a bar anymore. But now, you don't even have the choice to buy a decent tasting cigarette, at seven dollars a pack. See, they tax you to death on these things, and they are shooting themselves in the foot. Where are they going to make up all the taxes when we quit? My State is already in the shitter and has been for years. They should be promoting smoking. It's probably some of the only taxes they are getting since 20% of the people in this state are either unemployed or underemployed.

Take a look around. McDonald's is killing more people than cigarettes. Video games and sedentary lifestyles are killing way more people than cigarettes. Hell, All the garbage they are putting into our food supply trying to skate around using sugar will end up killing more people than cigarettes. Well, I should say, the old cigarettes. I have no doubt these FSC cigarettes will kill you. They taste horrible, and burn your throat. They cause headaches and make me very irritable, as to where a smoke used to relax me a bit. I don't smoke enough to go get a rolling machine, buy a humidor, buy a bag of tobacco, tubes and roll my own, even though you would save so much money, it's stupid. I have heard after the initial investment for the rolling machine, you can do a pack for about 8 to ten bucks.

You know what I love too? Phillip Morris. Fuckin Hippocrates. They put all this shit about quitting smoking on their site. Do they really want you to quit? Wouldn't that put them out of business? It would be like McDonalds promoting healthy living and selling you double quarter pounders with cheese, gobs of fries and 40 oz of coke. It's pretty american though. We like to send our jobs over seas, and promote the welfare and child support systems, reward lazy fucks for doing nothing more than holding their hands out, and sitting on the couch watching the springer show.

I'm taking the extra money I will save by not smoking and buying some guns and ammo while we can still do that. I'm sure that we'll all be defending our land sometime soon. Good luck! Oh Yeah, Japan smokes way more than we do. I'm sure that you can get non fsc cigs from there or maybe mexico. They encourage smoking in Japan. It's great for population control.

Smoking vinyl now... how many of you would imagine that the earliest cigarette filters were made from asbestos? ...and even after "ASBESTOS" was discovered to be the culprit in lung cancers... and the fact that people smoking "FILTER-LESS" cigarettes had far fewer issues with cancer... the "reasonable" experts merely suggested that... I smoked for over 40 years, and I was up to 1.5 packs of Merits a day at the end. I stopped tobacco cigarettes in one day through using the e-cigarette, also known as a personal vaporizer. There was no pain, stress, suffering or climbing the walls.

My neighbor smoked at least 1 pack of cigarettes a day for over 30 years. I gave her an e-cig, and she also stopped -- that day.

I've been off the tobacco for over 1 month now, and already my smoker's cough is gone, I have tons of more energy, and my skin is glowing with health.

I do NOT recommend the brand marketed by smokingeverywhere.com. I do not sell e-cigs or have any financial interest in them. I won't give any links, because I don't want my interest in this misunderstood, but you can google Joye 510 -- there are lots of sites sell them online. Get the starter kit.

I also recommend the eGo by JantyUSA, but that is more money (although IMHO twice as good).

Not only is your health worth giving the e-cig a shot, but you won't be handing all that tax money over to the state and fed governments, who barely spend a penny of it to help us smokers (or ex-smokers)anyway.

Does anyone know when they started the FSC cigarettes.... I know it was different depending on your state.... but any approximate dates? I'm in Texas. I quit smoking a little over a month ago and I'm freaked out about this crap. Trying to figure out how long I smoked that S**T. I'm thinking about 2 years???? Yikes.

Yer about right...it's been 2 years or so. As if the 4000 chemicals in cigs weren't enough they add carpet glue.

Actualy it is in the papers! all those rings around the ciggarette's paper are the parts with added chemicals to make the ciggarette's go out. It actualy has made them more dangerous to smoke and its estimated the deaths caused by smoking will increase now that they have these added "fire retardant" chemicals
