Re: FSC Cigarettes
I am unsure if that's all this change is (THE FSC) -- because not only doesn't the cigarette stay lit, I noticed before I even realized that they changed my cigarette, becoming the FSC that is today, a funny taste. I kept complaining about it and right before I was going to write the manufacturer of my cigarettes about one, it not staying lit and two, the funny taste, I was informed about these new FSC's. I have to wonder if they've also added something. I can't believe that it would taste different from removing whatever it is this thread is saying they removed. I think something was added, if not more than one ingredient. I hate the FSC's!!! Well, maybe it'll help me quit!
I found them!!!

Can anyone tell me what the chemcial the put in the new FSC Cigarettes. I cannot find this info any where on the internet.

Hi e1 this is an email I got from a smoker thought you all needed to read this. I will not stop so hey help me out here. I got a call today from someone telling me to back off. I will not stop. I need your help. They can not get away with this!!!!!! Their threats do not scare me. I will go down fighting for all of us. Find out all you can.
Kay
Still fighting for our right to be heard.

Hi kay;
I think in my research I may have found out what's up with those cigarettes. They use an adhesive called ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion based adhesive. At least that it what one of the pattents for reduced ignition propensity cigarettes said was required. I looked up the chemical. It is the same adhesive used for glueing the backing on carpeting. It has shown to cause tumors in mice, but it is not know what it does to humans. Also, I read the metals such as aluminum are used to help keep the cigarette burning where the speed bumps aren't, or something like that. At any rate that explains the metal taste that I am left with. I think there is far more to this. I don't think they care at all about the 700-1000 lives that will be saved, or so they say will be saved. Also, the testing done did not prove conclusively that fsc would not ignite and start fires. What bothers me most is that the only testing done on these cigarettes was in relations to it fire safety. No tests were done as to the health risks created by the changing of the cigarettes. I also am very suspicious as to how they snuck this on us. We hardly heard anything at all about this till it went in to law. Another weird thing is that back in 2004-2005 I used to buy Marlboro's from an indian reservation in NY, they were cheaper. I noticed that the cigarettes went out, however, they did not have the smell, taste or affect that these FSC have now. I know now that the pilot test was done in NY. Everything in the passing of the FSC law was based on what happened in NY. But I can tell you, that the cigarettes in the pilot test in New York are NOT the same as the one's they are pawning off on us now. They changed them. I think we are being experimented on, against our knowledge and will, just as they did medical experiments on prisoners and children in the foster care system. No one cared about them to make a stink and now no one cares about the smoker because we have been made out to be evil bad people who are hated by the general populace. Anyway, as you can see, I am really pissed off about this whole thing. I wish there were something we can do. People are going to get very sick and some are going to die from these cigs. Anyway, gotta go to work. Thanks for Emailing me back. Nance

Bottom line, they are making them more toxic so that they can make all of their lies more of a reality to show how tobacco is truly a "killer" by deception. To hold to the facade and hide all of the real dangers of fuel exhaust from automobiles and other engines, as well as intentional 'protection' clouds and other industrial chemicals spewing into the air and the radiation released accidentally or intentionally by war.

Would the very thing they demonize be one of the best protections against the toxins?

There is no reason for the toxic chemicals now being added at all. If they did just remove saltpeter it likely would have been good enough. But, the wizards had to add another of their crimes to the stack of millions. The new chemicals burn and strip flesh and no telling what will happen in short time to the lungs of those who are smoking the 'new' and 'improved' cigarettes. Saltpeter mixed with the air causes the tobacco to burn faster so is an economic ingredient the tobacco firms use to generate more sales as more cigarettes will be smoked that way.

Now they are moving to do the same things to the hand made cigarettes and to raise the tax to an astronomical amount on loose tobacco. They work very hard to keep everyone focused on their scapegoat demon instead of doing anything truly effective in reducing toxins.

I smoke the SkyDancers, far cheaper than American Spirits, not quite as tasty, but the price difference of 30 bucks a carton is worth it! 10 cartons, 132 bucks. Been buying here since before the big dollar a pack tax hike in my state.

Cheaper than silvercloud, is Oklahoma Outlet, also 3 Sisters might get cheaper sometimes too.

Comments I've seen on FSC ciggies and my comments on them:
"I get a headache.": How about re-lighting it with a lighter instead of taking a longer drag to wake it up?! Might help. Or if your headache's coming from somewhere else, you might try a lighter/different ciggie. Or quitting!

"The cherry falls off.": This happens with all ciggies! Problem is YOU.

"Oh no! Another additive!": HUH? Suddenly you care what's in your ciggie?!? WHAT? And they REMOVED potassium nitrate. You should be glad!!

"I have to constantly 'suck' and 'puff' on my cigarette..": Isn't that called fu@&ing SMOKING?! 'Nough said.

"It tastes horrible now!": Ever take a drag without noticing your cherry is gone and your ciggie's out? Yeah. Tastes awful. It isn't lit, so you don't get smoke, you get smoke-flavored air. Not so tasty.

I often smoke my own rolled cigarettes and without the additives, they often die when I ignore them for too long. This is nothing to worry about people! Light your cigarette if/when it goes out, or.. (Oh no this may be too hard!) SMOKE it and don't IGNORE it. NOT HARD PEOPLE. It's called adjusting to change. I just might be okay with that if it means no longer smoking one of the many chemicals they've placed in cigarettes. Namely, potassium nitrate.
I've smoked more than a few packs of these new ciggies and the only difference I've experienced is when I ignore it and it starts to go out. So guess what I do. Not let it go out! Or.. deal and re-light it.

Thankyouandgoodnight.

how lovely- took me a few searches to find that we've upgraded to ALL-WEATHER proof carpet glue thank U FDA for never looking into it

11.4% more carbon monoxide than regular cigarettes, 13.9% more Naphthalene (mothball stuff)headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, confusion, anemia, jaundice, convulsions, and coma.

gosh darnit.

oh and yeah, phillip morris stated to Washington Post:

"the Adhesive ethylene vinyl acetate and polyvinyl acetate are used in the non-tobacco ingredients of cigarettes produced as a Side-seam adhesive. However, Phillip Morris USA fails to distinguish the differences in levels between regular and FSC cigarettes. The amount does not exceed .6 % combined.[3] Since additional layers of paper are used in FSC cigarettes, more adhesive is needed in the form of ethylene vinyl acetate."

read as carpet glue. or dont. i just want my cigarette back. minus the mothballs.

With the FSC they burn unevenly and rigidly, the shit-stub filter somehow prevents a full long drag, and they simply don't taste pure or right. I usually buy my cigarettes (marlboro lights) in the South and they don't have this FSC bullshit. It's an unbelievable difference to smoke one, then the other kind.
You can find non-FSC Cigarette Heaven in N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Georgia, and parts of Virginia. In the Carolinas you'll get a carton for $25-$35.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
Yesterday I was searching the web to find out why my cgs (Marlboro Lights) have had this rotten taste lately...And stumbled onto this site.
I live in Las Vegas and we do not have the FS Cigarettes...yet. HOWEVER, after reading all of your posts, I realized that even though the paper hasn't changed yet, the tabacco has. I put some of the tabacco in the palm of my hand and it balled up and stuck together...clearly being moist (obviously NOT normal) and as someone wrote, being soaked in some type of oil. The cigarettes are able to bend without breaking and you have to suck much harder as you are smoking it. The taste is horrible and lingers as if there is a layer of some chemical on your tongue and roof of your mouth.
So if any of you are still reading this thread...I can confirm that it is not just the paper.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
I have read and monitored this blog since January and have posted a few comments of my own.

Some of you make claims that "nothing" has been added to the cigarettes and that certain ingredients have actually been removed. If this were the case, that a certain ingredient has been removed, then how do you account for the increased toxic levels of 19 compounds found in FSC Cigarettes compared to non-fsc cigarettes?

ABSTRACT:
This report examines New York's initial experience implementing fire safety standards for cigarettes. This study provided the first assessment of the ability of manufacturers to produce cigarettes that reduce ignition propensity, while maintaining price and consumer acceptability. The study also measures a number known toxic compounds commonly found in cigarettes to determine if there are substantial differences in their levels compared to Massachusetts cigarettes. The study compares laboratory testing of RIP and the level of nineteen known toxic compounds for the same four cigarette brands sold in New York and Massachusetts. The study further examines measures of tax revenue, pricing, and brand availability to assess the effects of fire safety standards on the consumer market. SUGGESTED CITATION:
Hillel R. Alpert , Carrie Carpenter, Gregory N. Connolly, Vaughan Rees, and Geoffrey Ferris Wayne, "The Effect of the New York State Cigarette Fire Safety Standard on Ignition Propensity, Smoke Toxicity and the Consumer market" (January 24, 2005). Tobacco Control. Surveys and Program Evaluations from Outside UCSF. Paper Cigarettes2005.
[link to repositories.cdlib.org]

The above report lists nineteen toxic compounds found in cigarettes. FSC cigarettes compared to non-FSC cigarettes showed an 11.4% increase of Carbon Monoxide and 13.9% increase of the compound Naphthalene.

Other increased levels of the FSC Cigarettes are Propionaldehyde 6.3%, Crotonaldehyde 6.3%, Methylethylketone 6.1%, and Fluorene 6.1%.

Anthracene 5.6%, Acetaldehyde 5.8%, Acetone 5.4%,

Phenanthrene 4.7%, Fluoranthene 4.3%, Butyraldehyde 4.1%

MS TPM 3.8%, Tar 3%, Benzanthracene 3.1%, Pyrene 2.6%, Chrysene 2.7%, Acrolein 2.7% Benzo(e)pyrene 2.6%, Formaldehyde 2.3%, Benzo(a)pyrene 1.4%, and Indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene 1.1%.

According to these test results, nicotene level was decreased by -1.8%

If you read the entire report, you will find that these toxic levels were measured by a "puffing machine." I can not find any information that these increased toxic levels have been tested on humans.

The Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes would have you believe that there are no increased health risks involved and that these percentages are too low to really mean anything. ????? Amazing how the same percentages of increase or decrease in say the American Deficit, or Wall Street, TAXES or our WAGES can be affected by percentages. But these same percentages of increase in toxic levels of FSC Cigarettes is NOT going to affect our health???

Can't compare apples to oranges? Money to toxins? And why not? Well, just follow the money trail then and eventually you will find out the truth behind these FSC Cigarettes!

OMG thank you so much for this thread!!

Keebler - your post was great! Did you notice in the info it refers to "reduce ignition propensity" (RIP) - these guys are freaking sick - probably named it that way on purpose.

I had all the symptoms and problems too and I switched to Skydancer, but I just looked and even the Skydancers are FSC.

Now, something here really doesn't make sense.

* They start a blame and shame campaign against smokers. When I used to work downtown in the 70's, they handed out free packs on the street corners! I never had to buy any.

* Then they start raising taxes and tobacco prices.

* They use health care as an excuse to go after smokers when big pharma and insurers are making out like bandits and it's been hideously obvious they are working to make the entire population sicker. Keep em coming back for more health treatment till their money runs out and then let em die.

* They start making crazy laws about not smoking in our own homes, etc.

* They tax the hell out of them, with promises of more to come.

* They give us RIP FSC smokes, sending us straight into the health care system where they can make us even sicker.

And they're doing all this because they care so much about our health?

But they changed the smoking laws just long enough for the G20 Meeting so that the members could smoke.

I hear it's a serious crime to grow your own - only Native Americans and corps can do it.

AC, I'm with you ----- they are mighty, mighty set on everyone quitting. Bait and switch. Bait and switch.

Plus, the health care bankrupts families and takes away any chance of leaving a legacy for children.

The "Hegelian Principle" consists of three parts . . .

1. Problem or Thesis
2. Reaction or Antithesis
3. Solution or Synthesis

If you are not familiar with this concept of effecting "change" then you definitely owe it to yourself to become more educated on the subject.

It may give you a better understanding of how we ended up with these FSC Cigarettes!

Study up on the Hegelian Principle and you'll soon realize that there is another "conditioning" process going on in this country that will soon take other freedoms away from not only SMOKERS, but every one in this country.
