Re: FSC Cigarettes
You are an idiot. From the Coalition For Fire Safe Cigarettes (who started this mess)
[link to firesafecigarettes.org]

the cigs have extra bands of paper added to slow or extinguish the burning cigarette. What they don't tell you is HOW cig mfgs are adding the extra bands of paper - it must be some sort of glue, right? And who doesn't need to smoke more glue? I'm trying to find authoritive documents but it's difficult because this is not being investigated or reported. Most indicators point to ETHYLENE VINYL ACETATE. I can TASTE a difference (and it's not just paper) and it makes me ILL and that's all I need to deduct that something is horribly wrong.

Also notice that the do-gooders at the Coalition don't talk about the health effects of whatever they're doing to the cigarettes (they mention a rise in the levels FIVE CHEMICALS in FSC cigs as compared to non-FSC cigs but don't say which chemicals because they really don't care that it might make smokers sick), all they talk about is how it's going to save lives by preventing fires. Total BS. I've seen how these things burn and I would think they'll cause MORE fires!

It is indeed Saltpeter. I do not know all of the uses, but it is an herb that is also used to help slow down sex drive for men who are prison for lengthy amounts of time. Go to Google and put in Saltpeter and it should come up.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
I live in Oklahoma and was not aware of this new law in our state that went into effect January 1, 2009. I had purchased a carton of cigarettes on December 30, 2008. My 18 year old son was taking a trip with me that day and I asked him to get me a pack of cigarettes out of the new carton. I noticed the first one I lit kept going out, wouldn't stay lit, and I had to relight it several times. Later, while smoking the second one, the same thing happened. I finally turned to my son and said, "Did you tamp the pack down or something before you handed me this pack of cigarettes? He told me no and wanted to know why I asked. I told him that the cigarettes kept going out. He said, "Let me see your pack, it's probably the new FSC cigarettes." I asked him what an FSC cigarette is. He proceeded to tell me about the new law, the new cigarettes, and that "FSC" would be above the UPC code on all packs of the new cigarettes. Well, there was NO FSC stamped above the UPC code.

I had trouble with EVERY cigarette in that pack, and the next pack, and the NEXT pack out of that carton. By the second day I noticed that I was experiencing some pain in my throat when I swallowed and I thought, "Great! Strepp throat, that's just what I need." By the fourth day my throat was worse, but I was not running a fever, and other wise I felt great. In the meantime, I noticed that my cigarettes were NOT normal. If I wasn't puffing constantly, and puffing for all I was worth with every drag I took, they kept going out. When I would relight one, sparks would fly, a flame would shoot up, and sometimes the end falls completely OFF burning my skin, or clothing, or whatever it lands on! By the fifth day I couldn't eat or drink anything due to the pain and discomfort in my throat. By the time I started putting 2 and 2 together, I had smoked 8 packs out of that carton. FSC is NOT always stamped above the UPC code! I was getting my first experience with these HORRIBLE cigarettes.

I started doing google searches on FSC cigarettes and I have been appalled at all that I have learned and read about these horrible cigarettes. Fire Safe my A$$! Wake up America!

Can we tell a difference between these and the former cigarettes? YES WE CAN! Can we choose NOT to smoke these? YES WE CAN! I am a smoker because that is MY CHOICE. I went to the smoke shop today and invested in roll your own supplies.

I've read many blogs where people have quoted statistics on other things like the number of people killed by drunk drivers, diabetes, etc. The one stat I have yet to see is the number of people who are killed or maimed every year by PIT BULLS! Now, there's an issue for you! How many more little children have to get their heads bitten off before our state governments do anything about that?

Oh N O O O, let's keep a continual focus on the smoker's in our country, let's keep taking ALL of their rights away. And all those drunk drivers, at least they get the "drink of their choice" before climbing behind the wheel to kill. I want to see our government demand "drunk safe" alcohol. I wonder how many "drinkers" would go for that one? Or, maybe they should just "add" something to the alcohol to just kill them all off the same way they are NOW trying to kill off all of us smokers with these FSC CIGARETTES!

You can get all your name brand cigs still as NON FSC!!!

Got mine in about 5 days from North Carolina.

[link to www.carolinacartons.com]

The good cigs are still available! Hurray!!!

At least someone still has some left, but we are going to need to stock pile. Come 2010, the whole country will be FSC, because the manufacturers are switching over Nationwide on Jan. 1, 2010. They will not make 2 production lines any longer because as of that date 38+ states will have the FSC law in effect. Even states without the law will get FSC only starting at the end of 2009 and 100% as of Jan. 1, 2010.

I am going to buy 2 to 3 times the amount I smoke for the next 10 months so I build up at least a year supply for 2010 and I hope after the shit hits the fan on that date that we will band together as a population of 20% of Americans that still smoke and fight this FSC in Washington and get thi repealed and force the manufacturers to start making them the GOOD way again!!!

Stock up and band together to fight this!!!!

To: Rhonda and KnowingYouNow

I am glad to see that others are reading the comments and trying to educate themselves about the FSC's.

There is another website, www.fsccigarettes.com that has some good information and you can post comments.

I also went to the website of the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes, www.firesafecigarettes.org. I was there last night and had done a very nice write up to warn people about the potential dangers of these new FSC (Fire Standard Compliant) Cigarettes, including the traffic safety hazard they now pose. I went there this evening to see if anyone had responded to any of my comments and guess what?? Every article that I had posted my very eloquent comment to had been REMOVED!

Hmmm, just exactly WHAT is it that they don't want the rest of the country to know? Sometimes, actions do speak louder than words. That's OK, there are plenty of other forums to post comments to.

Be careful when buying cigarettes out of state. I don't think you are going to have any guarantee that you are NOT receiving FSC cigarettes just because "FSC" is not stamped about the UPC code. I did some research, found a Phillip Morris article where they commented that this stamp would be on the new cigarettes and they said they used to put just a straight "bar" above the UPC code. I found one of the empty packs of Pall Mall's that I had pitched the other day (made by R.J.Reynold) and there was no "bar" OR "FSC" above the UPC Code. Not sure how R.J.Reynolds was labeling the old cigarettes, but I can guarantee you the carton I bought was the new cigarettes, it just wasn't labeled as such.

The lady at the counter in the local CVS said everyone was complaining the cigarettes were making them sick when I asked to check the UPC before purchasing (can't find any non FSC here anymore).

They finally found a way to get me to quit, I don't trust them, I mean who will notice, or care, if smokers seem to get sicker all of a sudden. Great platform to try things out on.

Remember Viox? When they first reported problems the doctors were still prescribing it - when I asked my doc about it he said that Viox was fine, the people using it (mainly for arthritis) were older and already in a high risk group for strokes and heart attacks....he told me it was safe - the target group was the risk, not the medicine. Then they started giving it to more Fibromyalgia Patients (which is how I got on it) and younger and younger people were being affected. Who knows how long it would have gone on if it had stayed with the senior population - how many would have died from it. How many other "groups" are being injured/killed as we speak? We don't know - we only know what they tell us and even then no one listens (like evidence now of link between Lung Cancer and Preservatives in our food), Gardisil problems, heavy metals in vaccines, the new shingles vaccine for the elderly (brought to you by the makers of Gardisil). And I'm pretty sure if they say anything bad you can be fairly certain it's actually worse.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
Thanks OP for bringing this up. The FSC make me ill. I never cough with regular cigs, but when the FSC came out I could barely stop coughing from the minute I woke up in the morning and throughout the entire day. I finally travelled out of state to buy some normal cigs, and the very next day I was coughing less. A few weeks later, with normal cigs, I wasn't coughing at all.

I agree with all the other posters that what we really need to do, for numerous reasons, is to roll our own. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I expect I will in order to avoid these awful FSC cigs. Still, I'm outraged that various States are passing these FSC laws without public notice or comment and without investigation into the health effects of whatever chemicals they're using. FSCs make you feel very badly physically, and very quickly at that. It totally pisses me off that I'm forced into manufacturing my own cigarettes ( a LEGAL product), just to avoid this attempted murder by the same State that profits so much off smoker's backs.

We should figure out who lobbies all these state legislatures to pass FSC laws. We need to track these people down and hold them accountable.

WAKE UP AMERICA! DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Nazi Germany and the genocide of thousands of Jews may not hold a candle in the future to the US Government and the genocide of thousands of smokers from the new FSC paper! And you think this would be the the first time that the US Government has conducted drug/product experimentation on an unsuspecting class of people? I can't speak for ALL roll your own papers, but I did take one of the FSC cigarettes apart to compare it with the cigarette papers that I bought to roll my own. There IS a noticeable difference in the thickness of the paper. The paper from the FSC is thicker.

The brand that came with the 1 lb. bag of tobacco that I bought are X C A L I B E R INTERNATIONAL. Made in the Czech Republic. They are a lot thinner than what came off the FSC and they burn beautifully. No relighting, no sucking in your cheeks until they rub each other inside your mouth from trying to take a "draw" either! I wonder what affect the "draw factor" will have on creating more wrinkles in faces now too from these FSC's?

Fire safe cigarettes are a lie. There have been two cigarette caused fires in Shelton Conn within the last month and our state was FSC mandated in July of last year. The chemicals are not for safety, they are to damage smokers. Within five minutes of searching, I found cigarette caused fires in many of the states that also mandate FSC.

Donna: Glad you found this site too. People REALLY need to educate themselves on the greater health risks with the new FSC's as well as the fact that they STILL seem to cause house fires.

I found more stories where cigarettes were cited as the cause of the fire, in states that have already enacted the FSC law. 9-15-2008 Anchorage, Alaska. December 19, 2008 report of careless disposal of cigarette caused fire that displaced 31 people in Binghampton, New York . . . an FSC state since 2004.

Re: FSC Cigarettes
I've been rolling my own since the FSC cigs made me sick... now check this out...

Have you heard about H.R.2? It passed the House on Jan 14th and is now in the senate. It expands the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and pays for it by taxing cigarettes and tobacco products at alarmingly higher rates. I recently began rolling my own cigarrettes. The bill proposes a 2200 percent increase in taxes on roll-your-own tobacco and supplies. Yes, you read that right. 2200 percent increase. The current tax on roll-your-own tobacco is about 1.09 per pound. This bill raises the tax to 24.62 per pound.

And by the way, to those who say they just removed a chemical or just made the paper thicker on the FSC cigs, you're wrong. They added extra bands of paper - these must be stuck to the original paper by using some sort of adhesive, and this is why so many smokers have experienced sore throats and other ill effects.

Also note that the Coalition for Fire Safe Cigarettes admits to a rise in the levels of FIVE CHEMICALS when comparing FSC cigs to non-FSC cigs. They never say which five chemicals, or discuss the potential health effects on smokers. They don't care.
