324203,
Of course its going to be bright anyways since its making a relativley close flyby with the sun. You are right in that is IS comming closer to us, as it is listed in spaceweather as a potential danger.
Also, its 6 km wide, not 3. And it isnt an orb either, if you look at astroid 1685toro youll see why is reflects the sun how it does. Quoting: Gwydion 348523
Not according to the JPL Small-Body database, which says that 1685 Torino is 3.4 km in diameter. And the orbit diagram indicates that it currently NOWHERE NEAR THE SUN-EARTH LINE OF SIGHT!

I am not disagreeing, just adding arguement to whittle down our options. Anyone able to pull an appr. size of this this...compared to another planet...looks a lot larger that Mercury, not to mention the lateral line that accompanies most large object pics from SOHO. So let's narroe it down to appr. size, distance from sun, looks like it is maintaining a somewhat hesitated orbit of sorts too. Is that perhaps a sign of intelligent guidance...hard to tell with so much time in one short clip. |

Nancy,
Thats just space junk, nothing even comparable to the astroid itself which is 6 km wide. I seriously hope you arent instigating those blips on the screen to be anything significant.
What your all seeing is astroid 1685toro, im sorry i cant find a trajectory path for it but by all means look for yourself. Something is obviously crossing, all im saying is that we already know what it is, and its NOT anything new. Quoting: Gwydion 348523
Right, and can't find the asteroid either!
1625toro
Not on the list of potentially dangerous asteroids (which NEO asteroids are)
[link to cfa-www.harvard.edu]
NEO are defined as those asteroids which are “objects on Earth-crossing
orbits and, more generally, to those having perihelion distances q<1.3 AU and aphelion distances
Q>0.983 AU”.
That would apply to the claim this is an asteroid visible on LASCO as being IN FRONT OF a solar flare seen from Earth.

2) Next, look at Mercury from T=22Dec07 to present, continuing to reference the vertical axis (i.e.the point of view of "A").

If this was 6km max there is no chance we'd see it from this distance. Either way, it definately wouldn't show as an object larger than mercury's point when it's on SOHO.
