Re: Why is everyone so surprised?
I understand the electoral <sp> process...this country (IMO) wouldn't fair to well if it was a majority vote per individual count.

It would take too much space to explain the why's, but location and population type is the reason. Texas for instance may have a large population that would vote for a certain person that benefits THEM...now compare those counted votes to a small state who's interests are different and therefore the majority vote from them goes toward someone representing their interests.

Now add all the "Give me give me" people and the largely populated areas that house these kind of folks, and you got yourself a mess.

The problem is, can we trust those individuals we elected to represent our State's interest to be honest in their votes?
 Quoting: Sireen-reborn

That's not my point. I'm not saying we should get rid of the electoral college system. I'm saying the whole thing is corrupt and it doesn't matter who the people vote for. It's now become a matter of which side is better at rigging the game.

I never said we should surrender. I agree there are other ways of getting the bear. But everyone is still playing the game and not pursuing other ways. If enough people got mad enough, they might turn over that table the man is standing behind and just grab the bear they want.

That's ONE way of getting the bear. And that isn't surrendering.

Yes it is, another way is to use the system in place to eventually take control of the carnival and remove the offending booth. Grass roots movements can and do bring fruit, they take time, but they do occur.
A revolution seldom occurs while the majority of the people continue to prosper. Keep in mind even the majority of the "poor" in this country are fat and eat regularly, or housed, or sheltered, and can seek and get medical attention (poor attention but attention none the less). The country will not turn over the table as long as it is not in there best interest to do so.

The only revolution that would work in a modernized society is by cutting off the money supply.

Any other kind of revolt would be fruitless and deadly for those revolting.

Our gov. in so many words has already said they would use our own weapons against civilians if need be. A physical revolution would be a short battle.

You're right. This is why I have no hope in seeing things change in this country in my lifetime. Things haven't gotten bad enough for the majority of the people to give a shit. But I don't believe you can use this system in place and eventually take control. It's way past the time when that might have been possible.

Being a Martyr though doens't really accomplish much in a modern materialistic society.

Martyrdom was a powerful tool when goverment and civilians still stood on equal ground.

But it's not equal now. Yes, there are more of "us" but THEY have all the money, power and resources to back their position, and most importantly, we the people are EXPENDIBLE!

They have no problem killing as many as they have to, to continue their current status quo.

We have to modernize OUR methods of promoting change. We have to do our homework, find out who's financing all this, and begin our attacks there!

A good first step would be if EVERYONE stopped paying income taxes.

They wouldn't have enough FEMA camps, prisons or holding facilities to house everyone.

A second step to take would be to find a way to become self-sufficient. No more relying on the goverment for ANYTHING.

For the last few months as everyone has rallied around their candidate of choice - some becoming nearly rabid over the issues, I've said time and time again, the electoral system is so corrupt and the elections are a sham providing the masses with a distraction and the allusion of power as they vote. The reality is that we have no power through participating in the electoral process.

Now everyone who's candidate didn't win tonight, or last week, is screaming "voter fraud" and seems so shocked that perhaps their votes really aren't worth the paper they are cast on - if indeed there is a paper trail, which there probably isn't.

Wake up people. We lost this country 8 years ago.

I think there is a big difference between challenging the government and over throwing the government. Many speak against the government and work for change. In fact many on this forum openly defy the government and speak for change.

A real police state would have shut this forum down long ago.

Islamic Guy, that is a point I cannot argue with.

It isn't by accident that America is what it is. So much emphasis <sp> is placed on superficial issues and materialistic gain. One, in this country, is defined by the money they make, the power they have, and the amount of toys they've collected.

"WE" care more about celebrities dramas than we do with issues of direct importance.

Alas, the course is set, and there is very little anyone can do about it, except let it run it's course, and do whatever neccessary to stay out of the way.

Well, imagine how easy it was for foreigners to infiltrate your government and steal your country then...

I don't think a lot of people really understand what time it is yet.

There is no need to "shut down the forum" because we play nice and self censor...

If we stopped doing that, the forum WOULD get shut down...

Which is why the mods would squelch it.

And we all know that's true.

And that IS big brother watching.

Get over the "it can't happen here" mentality, it IS happening here.

I agree with most of the frustration you are expressing with this exception: your assertion that only 1 party engaged in "fraud" in the 2000/2004 elections; when there are ample examples of fraud on both parties parts. Both John Kerry and Al Gore have NO one to blame but themselves for losing the elections. PERIOD. I also agree with a previous poster who pointed out the "allegations" of irregularities going back to 1960 and prior. This is NOT a new phenomenon, it's just "easier" to manipulate technology than paper, and paper ballots or a "paper trail" won't solve the problem.

I find it interesting to note that the pre-caucus polls were "dead-on" for the Republicans in New Hampshire but SO wrong for the Democrats, it just DOESN'T pass the "smell test", now does it???

You can't wake people up unless you can force the powers that be to steal the elections and then be able to prove it. I think you'll find that there are many more people watching and recording everything that happens in this election.

The elections before that were stolen were done while things were still good and people didn't want to admit how rotten things are. This time around you have many people hurting and pissed off.

I thought this was the case 4 years ago.

I said it earlier today... I think we have at least 16 more years of this crap before enough people realize that it does not work. Our political process is broken people, wake up!

It's not going to be an easy 16 years if you're correct!
Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Re: Why is everyone so surprised?
For those who believe "not doing anything" will encourage more corruption, think of it like this...

You're at the circus. You want to play the ring toss game and win one of those big stuffed animals. You even saw someone walking around with one earlier in the day. So you go hand the man who's standing behind the counter, yelling to all the people passing by about how easy it is to get one of those big stuffed bears at his booth, $5 bucks. You get your rings and you toss them. Every single one bounces off the bottles, but one ALMOST landed where you wanted it. So now you think you got it figured out! You can get it right with one more try! You give the man, who is smiling now, $5 more. He gives you the rings and some words of encouragement. You toss those rings, nice and easy this time - you get one ring on a bottle, the other two bounce around... You get a little plastic duck this time. Not what you wanted, but it's kinda cute. By now some people have gathered around - and they think you can do it too! One of them gives the man $5 - he tosses his rings and gets 2 rings on! Yeah! He gets a little bobble-head dog for his dashboard! So you try again - you give the man more money. You had heard these games were rigged - but clearly you can get SOME rings on these damn bottles. You just need to keep trying. You just need to keep giving more money to that man promising the Big Stuffed Bear is possible - if you just do it right. Because what you REALLY want is that Big Stuffed Bear. And there's no WAY it can be so rigged that you'll ALWAYS lose. So maybe it will take 3 or 4 tries - but at least you'll get the prize! And then suddenly you get all 3 rings on! See, you proved it was possible to win! But then the man tells you you can only pick a prize off the lowershelf - the one with little stuffed cats. And you have to win AGAIN and trade in that cat for the Big Stuffed Bear! You know you can do it now! You did it once! You keep handing that man your money and everyone around you is giving the man money and they believe they can get that Big Stuffed Bear too! You almost had it last time - it was so close!

2 hours and $100 bucks later, you still don't have that damned Big Stuffed Bear. And you don't want to admit that you've been had. Because you really knew that there was no way to win this game from the beginning - that the man behind the counter was lying through his teeth to get you to keep giving him that $5 a shot. So if you knew from the beginning that the game is rigged - and you still keep playing.... what does that make you? It's easier to justify your loss - well I just blew it on the last toss. I was doing really good most of the time. I threw too hard - or too soft. My aim was off. All of that is easier to deal with than admitting, "I'm a fucking idiot for even stepping up to that booth and playing the first round in a game that EVERYONE knows is designed for me to lose. And it's done in so many ways that it's nearly impossible to prove, but we all know it. The game is rigged. It was a total waste of time and money to even play."

But sure enough - next summer when the circus is back in town. The same people will line up at the ring toss, and believe THIS is the summer they will win that Big Stuffed Bear.
