Lyrica is probably THE drug of choice among fibro patients right now. [link to www.mayoclinic.com] And sleep is so critical. Exercise is critical. Check the disaboom community for discussions by fibromyalgia sufferers on what really does work -- but don't kid yourself or invest a lot of money in things that will "cure" fibro and treatments like vinegar. Here's the Disaboom fibro section link. Also check out their medical section -- good stuff there: [link to community.disaboom.com] |

The same with Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome. And NO, Apple Cider Vinegar will not cure Fibromyalgia nor CFIDS. |

I have suffered from severe Fibromyalgia for years. I had absolutely no pain relief of any sort until this past autumn when I started taking an ACV and baking soda "tonic" every morning, with a little (very little) amount of honey. It's gross. Yep, it tastes gross! I cringe thinking about it. But it has done wonders for my well-being and my pain management. I also have more energy now than I've had in a very long time. The "fog" has lessened, too. I don't need a walker right now, either. Hot baths, BC powders and glucosamine work for me. Get lots of rest (like you have any choice) and excersize. But remember, the worst thing is weight bearing or lifting. Only move, don't try to build muscle. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 314389 United States 03/25/2008 08:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Transdermal magnesium oil, digestive and systemic enzymes. All very effective towards "fibro" pain. The source of fibro is the same for all disease states - toxemia. The "cure" would be to detox your body and chelate the heavy metals. Step one - heal the gut. Break your food down with high quality digestive enzymes. Systemic enzymes (nattokinase, serrapeptase) can help a lot with the inflammation, which is the source of most fibro pain. If you're sick enough to have a fibro diagnosis, you most assuredly have problems with systemic yeast. There was a post yesterday about a child playing with himself - there is some advice in that thread for addressing yeast. Do a search on candida symptoms and see if you don't have quite a few. If you have mercury fillings, you should check into replacing them with something less toxic. There is a lot you can do to support your body in the meantime, but you will never achieve a full recovery with mercury in your mouth. |

Get yourself on a good fiber regimine, like metamucil, brown rice etc. and drink lots of water. Getting out walking/hiking is really the best way to overcome, but if you're in a city, I understand it's not very tempting to do that. Stretch out the best you can. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 361733 United States 03/25/2008 08:42 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You have been told to walk, this is absolutely great advice, my lower back was hurting very bad for over two months. I started trying to stretch my back out, that didn't help. Finally I got on our treadmill for just 15 minutes the first day walking slowly, then working up to more time and faster. My back was better in 2-3 days. You can try laying on the side that hurts you. Put a pillow between your legs. This really helped also. Try pilates so you can elongate your spine, likely you are hurting because the discs are rubbing together. Besides the walking, I started to do the few pilates exercises I remembered, stretching out the back helped too! Once I worked out the knot, I felt much better. good luck. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 399259 United States 03/25/2008 09:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, I was in a similar situation to yours and tried just about everything including apple cider vinegar. I obtained some relief, but no cure. I kept on researching, and with no real expectation of success, I had a simple blood test done to determine my level of Vitamin D, since I'd read that a vitamin D deficiency can be misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Amazing....that was the problem all the time. I had a serious deficiency of vitamin D. A simple supplement of vitamin D has pretty much changed everything for the better. Please have your Vitamin D level checked. I also have added a magnesium supplement which most people are deficient in as well. Good luck to you. "Vitamin D deficiency appears to be an increasingly prevalent, but largely unrecognized, problem. According to various studies, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency ranges from 4.2% to greater than 90%, depending on the race, health, and lifestyle of the people surveyed, their geographic location, and the criteria used to diagnose deficiency. While it is well known that severe vitamin D deficiency causes rickets, osteoporosis, and osteomalacia, it is not generally known that even a mild deficiency may cause such problems as muscle weakness, fibromyalgia, impaired balance, and depression. [link to www.townsendletter.com] Vitamin D deficiency as a cause of fibromyalgia - Literature Review & Commentary Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, Feb-March, 2004 by Alan R. Gaby Twenty-five women (mean age, 44.5 years) with fibromyalgia, all living in Ontario, were studied between January and March, 2000. Twelve of the women (48%) had serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels below 50 nmol/L, a level that is considered the threshold for deficiency, since stimulation of parathyroid hormone occurs at that level or lower. Comment: This study shows that marginal vitamin D deficiency is common among women living in a northern latitude who suffer from fibromyalgia. Other research suggests that low vitamin D status may be more than just an incidental finding in people with fibromyalgia. According to one report (Arch Intern Med 2000;160:1199-1203), correction of vitamin D deficiency can ameliorate symptoms of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and depression. Although vitamin D status is almost never assessed in patients presenting with these conditions, it should be suspected in people with inadequate sun exposure, in those who do not consume vitamin D-fortified foods (such as milk), and in people with malabsorption, malnutrition, or chronic renal failure.
