Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Re: Monks AMAZINGLY dry up wet sheets with body by meditating!!!
Tumo is a real discipline, but it is not magic.

If you are interested in trying it yourself, do the following.

1. Sit cross legged with your spine straight.

2. Relax your arms, hands feet and legs as profoundly as you can. This will open up the capillaries in the skin if done well. Just relaxing, again this takes no magic.

3. Now, pull your stomach in all the way while exhaling. This should make your stomach muscles very tight, but keep the rest of you, the parts not being used, relaxed. The tightening of your diaphragm, intercostal muscles and abdominal muscles will cause your metabolic rate to rise, due to the work preformed.

4. Keeping you abdominal muscles tight, draw a deep breath in, you will feel yourself working hard to draw this breath, as your diaphragm overpowers your abdominal muscles. You will feel increased blood pressure as well, which is why your hands and feet must be relaxed. (arms and legs as well.)

5. Breath slowly as to not hyperventilate. But take deep, full breaths, with the air going all the way in and pushing the last of the air you can out with force on each exhalation.

Do this for a minute to get a feel of real warming, five minutes to get up to a good clip warmer than average.

At about half an hour, if you keep going, you will be able to do what the monks in the video did, making the damp cloth steam.

It is best to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, but mouth breathing or breathing only through the nose nose works too.

:)

It works. have fun.

Remember, before you think your cool...

These monks do it for up to eight hours at a time.

I thought I would bring this to the front page for the afternoon crowd.

It is a neat effect and could help some of us survive cold winters with the thermostat turned down.... (Thanks to the government remote control.)

It's just proof that - after great training - some monks' minds can (maybe) control wet sheets.

Re: Monks AMAZINGLY dry up wet sheets with body by meditating!!!
The practice of Tumo is a discipline for warming yourself when cold, but otherwise in need of some rest.

It is not a good nights sleep, but it can help you keep from freezing to death and still be able to move the next day.

The thing with the sheets is just a tool to help the monks really do the work needed and not slack off.

If they do the work, they live and will be if not warm, all right.

If they slack off, they will freeze and go into hypothermia.

Nothing to keep your mind on the task at hand like the possible specter of death if you fail to!

Re: Monks AMAZINGLY dry up wet sheets with body by meditating!!!
I've heard stories of them being able to survive in bitter cold by being able to control their body temperature with their mind.

The default is for the body to try to conserve fuel by allowing the body temperature to lower thinking that preserving fat stores is more important then having fingers.. but what if you could use your mind to keep your metabolism super high and sacrifice body fat for heat?

It's funny how the world is today.

around the world, there are several fine examples of the civility, and immense power that we all have the capability to obtain...

and for the majority, the world either doesn't think these ideas are possible or real, has never given thought to it, or will call it devil worship.

such possibilities, and ignorance is the one that prevails, for now that is.

I must be one of the few here with a truly dirty mind.

If they can heat up the body to make the sheets steam, then think about sex????

Talk about a hot piece of... well ya get the idea! <grin>

"Course we'd probably both be hit by a lightening bolt for using such a divine power for something so base as just hot sex... Then again, maybe not. Maybe that's what this is good for - especially now that the Miele's can take care of drying the laundry so well!
Life really is a banquet - and truly - most poor sucker are starving! Enjoy the ride baby.

It's much easier to make dry sheets wet. No meditation required. Just a lot of humpy pumpy with your goolfriend.

Re: Monks AMAZINGLY dry up wet sheets with body by meditating!!!
There are many things that people can do, that are not even all that strange, once you think about it, that seem like magic to the uniformed or those taught that they do not have any power in the world at all.

You can heat yourself, cool yourself, walk or run many times more than you could otherwise, influence others, make yourself happy and calm, strengthen your body many times faster,in less time, than you have ever been told....

You can survive with little air and no food for long periods of time, without discomfort.

You can feign death by stopping the perception of your heart beat.

With just a few simple tricks you can double your ability to both memorize and recall things once learned.

You can become a creative genius in a few moments by learning only a few simple rules.

And you people have to stoop to jokes about wet sheets?

thats interesting and done under extreme conditions, but it is neither based on their being monks(of whatever stripe) or the supernatural. As an example if you sit down in a wet towel for a few hours while watching tv or being online, when you get up your towel will be dry, observation is an mazing thing and many things observed have lead to further invention and innovation.

This is true to an extent. That the towel (and a sheet perhaps more easily) will dry due to normal body heat is an ordinary thing.

Now, think about this. Take a cold sheet in a 40 degree F room and wrap it around your shoulders. Now stay for a fews hours.

The trick is in not going hypothermia.

What is being done is a meditation, that allows for consistent muscular contraction of some major muscle groups in the core of your body, while conserving energy by relaxing the rest of your body, and letting blood be forced into your extremities.

It is like running in place to keep warm.

Except you don't have to move around increasing air flow over the body.
