| Quote |
So what will the stimulus package be?
IMO we don't need a stimulus package which puts money into our pockets, we need the government to STOP TAKING THE MONEY WE ARE MAKING!!!
HOW ABOUT REDUCING PROPERTY TAXES TO 0! INSTEAD OF RAISING IT 200%!????
OUR GOVERNMENT WANTS US POOR. WHY? IDK.
BUT, IF THEY WANTED US TO HAVE MONEY, WOULDN'T THEY STOP TAKING IT?
HOW ABOUT TAKING THE TAXES OFF OF GASOLINE!??? THAT WOULD LOWER PRICES OF EVERYTHING, AND PUT MONEY IN OUR POCKETS!!!
BUT NOOOOOOO...."LET'S JUST INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF FOOD STAMPS! THAT WILL BE SPENT IMMEDIATELY"
DOH! |

They tried to couch it in reasonable terms, but it's just a matter of fleecing us even more.
Anyone remember how much it is going to be? |

WASHINGTON - President Bush and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Thursday embraced calls for an economic stimulus package to avert a recession, and the president scheduled a speech for Friday to lay out his criteria for the program.
Bernanke, testifying before the House Budget Committee, said such a plan should be aimed at quickly getting cash into the hands of people, especially those with low and moderate incomes. Bush wasn't going to spell out any specifics in his remarks, but instead demand that any package be effective and temporary, said White House press secretary Dana Perino.
Perino said that Bush and congressional leaders from both parties consulted via conference call Thursday for about 30 minutes about their plans to work together on growth measures.

Okay, so if they give us this "tax refund" check we need to save it for the new gas tax too!
DO NOT SPEND IT PEOPLE...YOU'LL NEED IT TO PAY YOUR TAXES!
SO...
1) OUR GOVERNMENT GIVES US A "REBATE" CHECK FROM OUR TAXES
THEN
2) CHARGES US MORE ON GAS TAX?
JUST KEEP THE DAMN CHECK!
SAVE THE POSTAGE!!!!

The best way to keep the population at large quiet is to create market bubbles. This ensures the rise of capital, despite monetary value being relative to currency devaluation.
Of course, the downside is that there is a finite effectiveness for such measures. |

More 'rebates' and of course they will have to cut taxes on the rich to 'stimulate' something- mostly boosh's ego. In the meantime war spending is at new records. Just toss some more iou's into Social Security and take the payroll taxes- after all 'we' won't be in the gov when the shit hits the fan and besides 'we' all have private full salary pensions independent of SS so fuck the little people! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 289164 1/17/2008 7:18 PM | | Re: Stimulus package for economy...free money for all??? | Quote | Here's the scenario:
1) Bush hands out tax cuts to the super-rich
2) The tax cuts result in less money to the states
3) The States, receiving less money, must tax property and/or sales more to make up for the loss.
4) By paying more to the States in the form of property/sales taxes, the average people haven't got as much money left to spend at the store.
5) Since people have less to spend at the store, the economy suffers
So, the Government's answer is to give people a $500-$800 lump-sum 'rebate'.
This isn't going to fix the problem. The problem with the economy is directly attributable to Bush's tax cuts for the super-wealthy. It shifted the tax burden onto the middle and lower income people, which resulted in far less money for them to spend in the stores. |

And here in Indiana, Bush's friend 'Mitch', our Governor, wants to raise our sales tax by 1%. He already 'leased' our toll road to a foreign company for something like 80 years, for a one-time injection of money. So when that money is spent, the revenue we had from the toll road will no longer be there for an entire generation.
Bernake made it very clear in today's hearing that poor/moderate income people are much more likely to spend any extra money they have, while the super-rich do not. And he said, in no uncertain terms, that tax cuts do not pay for themselves.
It's time to undo these tax cuts for the super-rich. |
