CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Rebecca “Becky” Jones of Waynesville, Ohio grew up with a love for God, the outdoors, gymnastics, spending time with family and working as a telemetry technician and nursing assistant for a hospital. She was just a normal 23-year-old — that is until one tragic accident changed her life forever.

Her story began February 19, 1992 when God gave her a dream of heaven.

“February 19 was a typical day for me. I went to bed, and I woke up I think around three in the morning,” explained Jones. “I was really upset. I had a dream that I went to heaven, and a tall angel walked toward me and told me it was not my time. I remember instantly waking up and being fearful: ‘Now what am I doing in heaven? Why am I being sent back?’”

Jones said she called her parents who prayed with her and reassured her everything would be okay.

The next evening, Jones was working her usual shift at Providence Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She said she was called to a help move a patient from the stretcher back to the hospital bed, when something unexpected happened. She walked up to the raise the bed and became electrocuted and grounded for the bed.

“I remember the electricity entering into my right hand, traveling across and down my right leg and back up, and then when it shot through my heart, it knocked the air out of me and traveled down my left leg and back up.

And when it exited my left hand, it was so powerful that it threw my hand in the air and blew the lights out of the room. I thought my fingers were going to blow off it was so intense! It knocked me into the corner of the room, and the next thing I remember I was in intensive care,” recalled Jones.

Jones later found there was a faulty cord on the motorized bed that gave it an electrical charge. Doctors told Jones the shock from the bed was equal to being struck by lightening and enough to permanently disable her for nearly half of her life. Jones, who had been healthy and full of energy, said she spent the next 16 years of her life as a medical guinea pig, undergoing test after test in hopes of treating the 10 conditions doctors diagnosed her with.

“I was told by 18 different doctors that I was totally, permanently disabled; that I could walk from the couch to the mailbox, or from the couch to the refrigerator; that there was no cure for me; that I would never be able to ride a bike, ride a horse, do any kind of exercising, do any kind of walking. I was pretty much bed ridden,” said Jones.

One of the conditions Jones suffered from as a result of her electrical injury is Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia, which means her heart rate would jump from over 100 beats per minute up to 200 without any kind of activity or warning. According to www.realwomensfitness.com, a resting heart rate for females is considered normal if it is between 70 and 80 beats per minute. Anything above 85 is considered “dangerous.”

Another condition Jones was diagnosed with is Dysautonomia, which causes a malfunction of the autonomic nervous system. In other words, vital things the body do automatically, such as regulating the heart, blood pressure, temperature, respiration and digestion, no longer function properly.

Jones’ condition took a turn for the worst the past two years, and has affected her activities with her husband, Ronn, and two children, Jonathan and Haley.

“I can remember the times that I would go to the front door and watch my husband go walk in our neighborhood by himself, and I wanted to so desperately be able to walk with him, but I wasn’t allowed to. My physical condition prevented me from doing that,” said Jones.

Over the last two years, Jones’ condition took a turn for the worst. She said her body began to swell, and she spent most of her time in bed. She could hardly eat without becoming sick.

Jones, who is now 40-years-old, was bedridden the last week of October 2007 with a severe migraine, chest pain and projectile vomiting. When she was at her lowest point of the entire 16 years, the Great Physician made a house call to give her a prescription for hope.

“On October 27, the Lord walked in my room and He changed my life completely,” said Jones. “He said, ‘I want you to go on a bland diet for 40 days, and I will recover and restore your health.’ After He spoke that to me, I felt and heard something pop in my right temple, and my pain stopped instantly. My migraine was gone. My chest stopped hurting.”

After looking up what a bland diet meant, Jones found she should cut out anything fried and all junk food from her diet. During that time, she mainly drank water and ate vegetables and grilled meat. Her diet ended December 6, 2007. According to Jones, God did in 40 days what 18 doctors could not do in 16 years.

“He healed my body inside. He healed the outside of me. He healed my thinking. You got to realize, for 16 years I was disabled in my mind,” said Jones. “You get trained after 16 years of not being able to walk, not being able to go up the stairs unless your kids are pulling you up step by step. Now all of a sudden, I’m healed, and the first thing I want to do is go walking, and my mind wanted to say, ‘No you can’t do that!’ But I did it anyway. I didn’t have any trouble. I felt wonderful.”

After visiting world-renowned Dr. Blair Grubb of Toledo, Ohio this past January 15, he confirmed Jones had a clean bill of health and gave all credit to the Lord. Her blood pressure now runs 110 over 70, which is considered perfect, and her heart rate is now at a normal 70 to 80 beats per minute.

According to Jones, her faith has been made stronger through the trials of those 16 years. The Lord has reminded her throughout that time of her dream of heaven, which has given her the strength she needed to believe there is no expiration date on God’s Word or His promises.

“And God did it in His timing, and I found out His timing is the best,” said Jones. “It’s for His glory, and it’s to help someone else, to encourage them in their life and their troubles. He wants to heal us physically and spiritually, financially, mentally, our whole being. When God spoke to me, He said, ‘I want to recover and restore,’ and that’s what He’s all about.”

Jones now feels like a completely new person, but God let her know He was not finished with her yet. He gave her further instructions.

“About the end of these 40 days, the Lord spoke to me again, and He said, ‘I want you to go on another 40 day bland diet, but this time pull your bread out,’ so I’m doing that,” explained Jones. “And I’m almost at the end of the second 40 days…I really want to stress this. It’s not what I ate or did not eat that healed me. Jesus gets all the credit. It is simply being obedient to Him and holding onto His word.”

Jones has an important message of hope for anyone struggling with faith or sickness.

“The most important thing I can say is get in your Bible and pour the Word of God into your heart, because the Bible says, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,’ and what you say is so very important.

In his word there is life and death, blessing and cursing in our tongue. You have to speak life over your situation. I did. I never went around talking one negative thing all those years. I never said one negative word about my situation. I kept trusting God, praising God and resting in Him. And when the Lord gives you a promise, get ready for the battle, because the Bible says it’s the fight of faith. Get ready for the battle, but hold onto His Word, and you will get the victory.”

Jones recently finished writing a book about her life changing experience. Her book FROM SHOCK TO AWE! by Whitaker House Publishing is anticipated to be on the shelf in stores sometime in the next few months.

PRAISE THE LORD!
