Re: Has anyone heard voices or sounds while utilizing a white noise (like a fan) to sleep?
Thank you all so much for sharing your story. I was beginning to think I was going crazy. For months now when I turn on the bedroom fan when I lay down, its like there is a party going on. I can hear voices and music but when I turn off the fan it stops .. I wait mins before turning the fan back on and there again the voices. I'm not sure what they are saying or what the words to the music are. I have been afraid to say anything because I was afraid my family would think I was nuts.

Re: Has anyone heard voices or sounds while utilizing a white noise (like a fan) to sleep?
My brother and his wife keep a portable fan on throughout the night, which most people know acts as a white noise.

Well, they had a weird experience in the middle of the night a few days ago.

They both heard what sounded like muffled conversions, as well as what sounded like a radio on which someone was turning the tuning knob searching for a station to listen to.

Then, yesterday, my brother had the same experience as he was going to sleep. He heard, in the distance and muffled, the Flinstones Theme song, as well as a muffled conversation between people. When he got up and turned of the fan to try and pinpoint the sounds location, they went away.

I have my own thoughts regarding why this happens to people, but I'd like to hear everyone else's thoughts. Thanks.

I had a strange experience years ago when I was driving an hour and a half to work every day. One day while driving to work I heard a marine marching band play "Waltzing Matilda" in it's entirety - over and over. I could hear it in the road noise. When I pulled over, the music stopped. Turns out I had an ear infection. My experience is probably unrelated to yours but I wonder how much of it is your brain trying to sort out barely audible sounds embedded in the white noise. Its like the white noise is a carrier frequency. Mine was all in my head but yours was heard by other people so it may be worth recording it if it reoccurs. Then you could dissect it with audio software to see what is going on.

Re: Has anyone heard voices or sounds while utilizing a white noise (like a fan) to sleep?
Here is what I have discovered ,I have been an electronics tech for 35 years.I know about emf, phasing(electronic and audio)

I am not sure this phenom can be technically explained. Electronics itself being a theory not withstanding ...
We only hear the communication on our window unit and fan when connected to a 35' extension cord, the wiring on the house has a neutral to ground fault (bad wiring) We have a tin roof.
The first electric speakers used a fan or rotating device.
Humidity seems to play a role, time of day or night not important.Overcast .I tried to calm my girl by explaining radio/tv transmissions, line transients(some wireless audio uses your ac outlets to transmit signal)and this could be manifest in the coil windings and blade "speakers". There is surveillance equipment that can listen in your home by your ac line.(voice, sound etc. vibrate the wiring in your walls and this back-emf turns it into a mike essentially )
But here is the problem.: the music is clear ,familiar but not recognizable and the two talk radio guys are always the same-like they are calling a play by play .but not sure what they are saying . Last night however I knew someone was fighting out front, it stopped the moment I left the room When it happens I get a curious feeling not sure why I am not scared or alarmed.I do feel a presence also and get the feeling I am being watched, but not to worried-I live 10 miles from anyone and "normally" would shoot through the fucking wall or window. It's like I am supposed to listen .Plus my dogs never miss.
My honest belief is that this is deliberate (insert conspiracy theory here) I want to believe it is something spiritual or other worldly trying to communicate as they have not phonetically mastered or understand our language (music or voice) and are merely imitating sound-our sounds. Another strange thing is sometimes my dog seems to be interacting with some one I can't see, naturally I have to assume she was going nuts-or me!
I have also had mild visual aborrations around the time of "the transmissions"
"Ghosts in the machine" by The Police.
Best of luck to all.

I was playing a white noise tape. I had been using it for a few weeks. Suddenly I hear a single note piano key..a long tone. I thought, thats odd must be hubby's tv show..I zoned out again. Again the tone came, I thought I wonder how long? It came and went several times then, so I knew it wasn't my imagination, other than the fact "it" responded to my mental doubt! And replied!!

If you really want to have some disturbing fun, turn on a small tape recorder when that fan is running.

You'll find out if it was all "just in your head"....

....And if you really want to freak yourself out, turn on your web cam at the same time....all the while your asleep.

hose web cams pick up some strange shadows...it may even show you talking in your sleep....or several voices coming out of your mouth.

yikes!

Well here is what I think is going on. The world is an amusement park. There is no such thing as time and space and everything we have come to know after developing a sensory system in our biologically programmed interface unit with consciousness capability based on random interactions with the physical universe. Enjoy your ride.

Everybody here is ALWAYS the SAME THING. Energy CANNOT be created or destroyed(sounds boring), only changed in form. When the ride is OVER(death), you realize, "Oh, this was all an illusion and an amusement ride. Wow! That was cool!"

Kinda related...just when I'm drifting off to sleep I often hear a loud noise....sound like a gun shot or wood cracking...It jars me back to wake abruptly....Not real noises because sometimes I heard the noise and wake, my wife is reading in bed...she ain't hear anything....most of the time the noise is accompanied by the feeling of the bed shaking or rocking....

My husband and I have heard this for years. Our bed is just a few feet from a metal roof and we live pretty close to a river. Sound always carries close to water. It sounds like a radio station..sometimes talking, sometimes music. Just figure we're picking up on some radio station.

I've had that experience, too. A few times it's sounded as if somebody was breaking into my house. The worst was when I heard a VERY loud crashing sound coming from downstairs. Scared the shit out of me but my cat had no reaction at all.

I'm still hearing fan voices off and on, too. If they're caused by bad wiring, humidity or whatever - why don't I hear them every night or only when it's humid? It was a dry cool night in my area last night (rare for this time of year).

I'm the one who heard a male voice say my sister's and my name through my fan LOUDLY. It was not my brain trying to organize anything. And many years I heard a voice say my name through my TV as well - during a regular TV show with normal audio.

The thought of taping anything while I'm asleep makes my blood run cold!

I cannot go to sleep without the fan on. The fan is just something I cannot sleep without. I think because if someone walks in front of it, the noise changes and I wake up. Good security system.

Not to mention on cool nights, put the fan inside near the window and blow cold air in. WORKS.

I hear music also when the fan is running. I would think it was a car outside somewhere and turn the fan off to see where it was coming from. I would be pissed that the neighbors would be so rude to play music that loud during the night. When I would turn fan off it would only be total silence. I also often hear the sound of someone mowing the grass. Of course turn off the fan and nothing. Weird.

Re: Has anyone heard voices or sounds while utilizing a white noise (like a fan) to sleep?
I thought I wasn't the only one who experianced it, it is rare but there does seem to be an effect- I just figured humans who are not skitzo will "create" substance of sound from white noise- sort of like the brain tries to find something ...I doubt anything real is related to it. We are beings who are brain- active. Over-active braiun types become scitzophrenic--a mental illness where voices and sounds are heard that are not there. I bet psycholgists would say this is common.
If you use a tape recorder- nothing will record. It is the way your brain is splicing the sound....

I was concerned and never mentioned it for fear people would think I was insane.

Yes, for years when I lay down and become very relaxed with or without the sound of a fan or white noise. It sounds like a television or radio left on and although I cannot make out what is being said, I do hear voices. No they don't tell me to kill anyone.. LOL

I did hear a Medical person from Russia discussing what he referred to as "Real or Clear Hearing" he was telling people that this was a very special gift, and not to be afraid.

yeah,me neither.i like the humming of the motor and it reminds me of napping at my cousin's apt. in the bronx in summer when i was young.plus from living in apts.,it drowns out the sound of doors, cars, people on balcanies, etc.

sometimes when i'm drifting i hear/feel a sort of swirling vortex of pressure fading in and out at different strengths and variables.sometimes a low quick hum or a high pitched phase repeating and overlapping.

Gee whiz, Guys. I looked at this thread to check up on the pros and cons of having a fan in the bedroom for white noise.

I have recently moved in with my brother, who is a heavy drinker and likes to yell for his dogs in the middle of the night. Once he has woken me up, I might as well get up and make coffee, because there is no going back to sleep in my insomniac world.

Now I'm scared that if I do get one, I will have a whole new set of weird stuff waking me up.
NO WAY!

OMG! I thought I was the only person who had experienced this!! It used to happen to me all the time when I was a kid. I would hear music (like a flute playing) or voices speaking through the metal-blade fan. I was going to post this same question on here but I didn't think anyone would believe me. I started sleeping with a fan again about a week ago but nothing has happened. This one has plastic blades. I wonder if that makes a difference...Why do you think it happens?

Re: Has anyone heard voices or sounds while utilizing a white noise (like a fan) to sleep?
I have head voices and music and singing since 2005. I can sometimes hear the voices clearly, mostly muffled. Any electrical device such as a vaccum cleaner, airconditioner or such can make the voices much louder.

Sometimes there have been 'themes" such as songs or patterns, that repeat- usually at the same times of the year and I recognize them as soon as I hear them.

Once and only for a brief period of time- I heard a very beautiful female voice, with a sad song. I had a very acute sense of some impending change. I told a friend about it- I just knew something very big was about to happen.

Since then, occasionally, if I listen very closely, and I mean I almost have to hold my breath to hear clearly, I will hear them talking about something that is about to happen. For example. I heard them say " She is not going to work today- no, no work today" Shortly thereafter- I received I call from my manager telling me to take the day off, we were having a problem and our department would be shut down for the day.

It did- I found my self in a divorce, moving and getting a new job all at the same time. My whole life changed and I did not have any reason to think I would be getting a divorce or changing jobs at all at the time.

Since then, occasionally, if I listen very closely, and I mean I almost have to hold my breath to hear clearly, I will hear them talking about something that is about to happen. For example. I would love some feedback.

I have been so troubled by the voices at times, but now, they almost comfort me. Angels? Ghosts? I don't know.

I am not a hocus-pocus kind of person. I am a scientist and professional person, very rational. I know what I hear though, I just can't explain it.
