What's the "appropriate" age range for a sexual relationship?
Quote

As you all know, I'm a 62-year-old dating a very lovely 21-year-old whom I intend to marry.

I was taken aback by the reaction to my thread. I had expected to hear, "Congratulations, old boy!".

Of course, I'm not dissuaded, but I would be intrigued to learn what, in your opinion, is the median male/female age range or the greatest that can be tolerated:

21/40?
21/50?

21/62?
28/62?
30/62?
35/62?
40/62?

Just curious.

A 62 year-old man and a 21 year-old woman is not the norm, but the opposite situation would be sorta, well, sick.

Well, I'll say it. Congratulations, old boy!

I think any legal age range is appropriate as long as it's consentual. Who should get in the way of two people in love?

I heard somewhere that the "ideal" minimum age of the female is 1/2 the males age + 7 years. So for a 62 year old male the spouse's age would be 38.

If your 32 your spouse should be 23...etc.,etc.

When a.) you can do it. b.) you're mature enough to either prevent a pregnancy or be able to support a wife and child should one happen. c.) in the event of an unplanned pregnancy, be man enough to NOT ask her to have an abortion! NO MATTER WHAT - DON"T be the one to bring that up!

If she thinks of it, then she cannot spend the rest of your life blaming you for it - although she may try to anyway. But better to have the baby than to insist that she terminate. Sure fire way to wind up in a miserable divorce a few years later.
Life really is a banquet - and truly - most poor sucker are starving! Enjoy the ride baby.

Two guesses.

She is trying to get revenge at her old boyfriend who she really loves.

And eventually once she feels she has got enough attention displaying you around him, and has achieved that revenged, she will dump you like a bad habit, and you will get burned.

Re: What's the "appropriate" age range for a sexual relationship?Quote

You just don't get it, you decaying shitbag. The bigger issue is that you are cheating on your wife and actually laughed about her showing how hurt she is because she suspects you are having an affair.

People change, couples grow apart, and love can wither - and sometimes people meet someone else who stokes their passion again. When that happens, the married parties are still obligated to treat their spouses with basic respect. A decent person would show some humility and remorse for hurting someone who honored their side of the marital commitment. At the very least, have enough consideration for the wounded party to not go on a public message board and gloat about the adultery and self-satisfied disregard for how this is affecting your wife's life.

If you put your shit out there for strangers to comment on, unsolicited, you don't get to decide what they are allowed to say about it. You posted an unbelievably assholish, self-congratulatory, egotistic, morally bankrupt thread. It never occurred to you that people wouldn't be as impressed with and enamored of you as you are with yourself. You're just that self-absorbed. You don't deserve any more respect and consideration than you are extending to your wife.

Re: What's the "appropriate" age range for a sexual relationship?Quote

western society is the aberration from the norm of most societies through history and even today.

so many 'less developed' cultures marry off girls as young as 12 to grown men.

for me, i've fallen for a 17 year old, and her for me. I'm 37, but the age of consent is 14, and really, i can only get in trouble for distributing sexually explicit photos of her, or giving her controlled substances.. etc..

so in canada it's 14. the 'conservative' minority gov introduces a bill to raise it to 16.

[link to www.cbc.ca]

he Conservative government introduced a bill on Thursday that would raise the age of sexual consent by two years to 16.

If passed, the new law would mean most adults who have sex with girls or boys aged 14 or 15 could face criminal charges.

'Adults who sexually prey upon young people are the targets of these reforms, not consenting teenagers,' said Justice Minister Vic Toews.
'Adults who sexually prey upon young people are the targets of these reforms, not consenting teenagers,' said Justice Minister Vic Toews.
(CBC)

"Adults who sexually prey upon young people are the targets of these reforms, not consenting teenagers," said Justice Minister Vic Toews, who said the bill will rename the Age of Consent law to the Age of Protection law.

The proposed legislation includes a close-in-age exception, which means that teens who are 14 or 15 can have a sexual partner who is "less than five years older."

"Another time-limited exception would also be available for existing marriages and equivalent relationships," said a news release posted Thursday on the Justice Department's website.

The current legal age of consent in Canada is 14. Many other western nations have ages ranging from 15 to 18. (See box at right.)

Toews said there is "widespread public support" for the proposed legislation among law enforcement and child protection agencies, as well as ordinary Canadians.

He said he believes the bill will have enough support from opposition parties to pass in a House of Commons vote.

Several high-profile criminal cases have pushed both internet luring and the age-of-consent issues into the spotlight in the past few years.

In one luring case, a 31-year-old Edmonton man was sentenced in December 2005 to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old autistic girl he met through an internet chat room.
