The other day this rich woman came into my work and was going to buy a new laptop. I told her the price and specification and she looked at me and said "I will just wait for the recession before I but it". I was thinking "that was a weird comment to have made". |

come on, someone here has to be smart enough to know..
why is there no updated numbers on futures trading? the numbers were unavailable at cnn money for a good 4 hours and theyve been frozen at bloomberg. now the numbers are back at cnn but they are frozen from 11:29am.
i dont follow this stuff really, but is there a cutoff time for futures trading like the regular market? does anyone have an answer to this please?
otherwise all i smell is big doom in the headlines tomorrow morning. why either freeze trading or not report the numbers unless you want to hold off the big panic until the morning? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 359293
The futures trade on the Chicago Merc, and it was open only for holiday hours today. |

Well it was predictable, in part because no one want to predict the recession we have been in for a couple of months now.
The DOW will probably retreat to the 11,200 mark, maybe not tomorrow but soon, and a lot of people will wonder what happend to their 401k.
The real worry is that we have incompetents like Bush and Paulson in charge of the American economy. I don't know about Bernank, but he had better act fast to lower interests, and 75 points would not be too much.
What has to happens is that the markets are restored to some sort of reason. What is happening now is chaos due to panic ... |

Are you insane? Lowering interest rates will only hurt the market more, not less. Devaluing the dollar will cause MORE people to pull assets, especially if it a major knee jerk reaction to the current issue. Take this example, you are a pimp (federal reserve) You have your whore priced at 5,000$ per john (the USD). Her price is so high, she is a quality screw and not too many Johns are using her. You decide to lower her price (the interest rate) now all of a sudden a quality whore has become nothing more than the equivalent of a crack-head who is lose and no one wants to touch with a 10 foot pole because she has been around too many blocks (devalued). The problem is, the Fed has been lowering rates, quite a bit and yet the economy has failed to get kick started. The problem isn't how easy the money is to get, the problem is no one can afford to pay that money back now.
Taxes have gone up all across the board from local income taxes, sales taxes and property taxes. Gasoline is crazy expensive here , 3.00$ USD per gallon may not be much to someone from the UK but to an American who only makes $5.75 an hour it means a lot. Costs of living are too high now, no single American working full time for minimum wage can afford a single bedroom apartment now. The new laws requiring minimum payments on credit cards to double hurt many people. Wages are not keeping step with cost of living. You know what happened at least in my area when they announced the minimum wage increase? Take a guess..., all the stores raised prices to compensate! This price raise effectively nullified the wage increase, we took 1 step forward to go 2 steps back.

I noted the freeze on futures and gold and the zeroes out of the crash in Europe and Asia, India. Everyone in the know, PPT, knows the implications of falling numbers - it's a crash of the first order. It will need to be averted, diverted for awhile but not for long, if it can be done. Derivatives have a mind of their own. Down goes the Dow, simple. Depression coming. |
