they don't call them the plunge protection team for nothing. 
I F this is the big one elizabeth, it will not be a sudden cataclysmic drop, rather it'll be a meltdown of several percent every day [to be realistic, 8 out of 10 days] until some sort of equilibrium is reached. that could well be 40 percent lower than where we are today.
ah ha, "equilibrium", sounds like a psych med doesn't it.
good chance for a 1000 point bellyflop on the nikkei before its over tonight.... |

i am not so much in to money market so can some one help me out here please. There is talk of bust bust and bust. this i can understand as shares lose value. However what happens if in two or three days time they gain it back?

When the Fed 'creates' money it charges (who?) interest. This money is then passed to the banks, who can lend a multiple (10x?) of the cash they have.
For example, a bank may have 1000$ cash that the Fed made; it can then lend out 10000$ to Joe (and charge him interest). Joe now has to earn 10000$. Fed now has to create 10000$ for Joe to be able to pay back his loan. Now the bank has 10000$ that Joe paid back + 1000$ that it had originally + interest. The bank can now lend 110000+$ to Joe and so on. Very soon Joe is in debt and the bank has all the money. Because the debt got so big, it is impossible for Joe to pay it back and he defaults on his payments. After Joe defaults on his payments, all his property is seized. Now the bank has all the money and all the property, and Joe has nothing.
The Fed is doing the same thing to the bank. Pretty soon the Fed has all the money and all the property, owns the bank and Joe has nothing. |

The idea is to buy low and sell high, not buy high and hope. It is never a good idea to ride a market down. You never know how far it is going or when, if ever, it will recover. Sell, Sell, Sell. By now, every smart investor should already be out. This down turn is for the fools who thought it would go back up. Oh, it probably will go back up some day. In fact it goes up every day, even now in Japan it goes up for a few minutes before it goes back down.
Good luck to all of you buy and hold people. You are going to need it very soon. It is possible for the DOW to go up tomorrow, but don't bet on it. |

With all the money comming out of the world markets some of it may find a way into the US markets tomorrow thinking it is a safe port in a storm. Could be an up day for the US stocks, but also could be a disaster. Even should it be an up day, it will start out low. Also, no matter what happens tomorrow in the US markets, it is very unlikely that anything will turn this crashing freight train around. We are no where near the bottom, regardless of any short term rally. |
