A 1929 day is in the making here. On the electronic day session today Monday 21 Jan, even with regular markets closed:
S&P H8 - down 60.30 at 1256.00
Dow H8 - down 522 at 11584 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also the volume which on a holiday for the electronic markets would normally be very light, it was 20X
Forced liquidation on many come Tuesday morning.
Now to see what the government investment managers with their trillion dollar balance sheets are going to do to check the onslaught? (That is if they want to, that is?
Dow 10,800 by Thursday????
I would be very interested to know government's net "short" position just about right now? That answer will tell if they have made a killing or are being killed right now! We all know what impression the talking heads will give, but reality would sure speak volumes....

The DJII futures are down over 500 points.
If the Federal Reserve fails to take emergency action before the US opening tomorrow, you will see the DJII open down 1000 points as the public joins this professional panic.
Everything you see happening is contained in the Formula, which will be the catalyst that takes gold again above $887.50 and to $1650.
As long as you have followed my plea to have NO MARGIN on anything gold I see no problems. If you have margin the rule is never meet a margin call, but sell whatever is needed to meet the call or more, never less.
It is a better wager that the Fed will immediately drop rates by 1 full percentage point. It is a slam dunk that all Western central banks will cut loose and flood the world with more liquidity than ever seen before.
If central banks fail to cause a torrent of liquidity from their unending check books then $450 trillion of derivatives will take us to the world of Mad Max.
Monetary inflation ALWAYS causes PRICE inflation even without strong business conditions.
Prices of hard and transportable assets rise regardless of business conditions. All currencies fall and the stronger currency is the laggard in the race to the bottom of the tank.

This is absolutely crazy.
I'm really worried that a crash might come tomorrow. The problem is that reducing interest rates will NOT help the economy. It will only hurt it even more in the long run and I think many people will see that. |

Note that the record drop for the Dow in a single day of trading is 684 points, on the first day the Dow opened after 9/11.
The Dow has only had one 600+ point drop in it's history, and that was the day. So this is big. Rivaling 9/11 type big on it's effects on the markets.
For other historical benchmarks, in percentage points, that day in 2001 was the last huge drop, and amounted to 7%. Alot , if not most of the major markets around the globe have dropped more than that in the days since the Dow closed on Friday. 1987 crash, down 22% in one day. For those who remember, it's entirely possible. Probably more good reason for it to crash now than it did back then. 1929 crash, down 27%. And as many people know, the Dow could drop 27% in one day, like in 1929, and with the historical price/earnings ratio of the market as a whole, the Dow would still be overvalued! This is the bed we've made, now it's time to lay in it!

It looks like it is around 535 and holding steady right now.
There will be action right before the bell however, in about an hour...
Will this go up or down?
The safe money is on down, as no sane person is looking at this and thinking "Oh, goody-goody!" Which means people that can, will try to sell today.
The PPT may not jump in, on the grounds that you should never try to catch a falling knife.
If this is going to be big enough, they will not waste their time and effort trying to stop it.
They will instead place the money elsewhere to keep it safe.
Gold, oil, metals, that kind of thing most likely.
Not that I am an economics expert, but I can tell fear when I see it, and Wall street has fear today. |
