No it could not.
it only sounds plausible because you are out of touch with the realities of life.
You can not lock people up in semi air tight containers with out food, exercise, toilets or anything else for any amount of time, they will die.
These ship have no way to accommodate their needs.
On top of that, without artillery, air support and transport vehicles and a good resupply chain that " army would not survive the first month, probably not the first week in combat.
This is something that a movie would promote, but it is bad fiction and not reality.
You are not alone, you would be surprise how many people really don't know how things work and how life really is.
Even many Preppers are delusional or ignorant of these important matters. But they think they "know" stuff. Because some other person who s just as ignorant tells them something and they accept it as "gospel truth".
