COVID-19 Omicron infection linked to new-onset diabetes

A pair of new studies conclude that, compared with their never-infected peers, COVID-19 Omicron survivors may be at a 60% or greater risk of new-onset type 1 or 2 diabetes, a potential precursor of heart attack and stroke.

Although postinfection diabetes risk was higher among unvaccinated participants (OR, 1.78) than among their vaccinated counterparts (OR, 1.07), the interaction between vaccination and diabetes diagnosis was not statistically significant (OR, 0.59).

Lead author Alan Kwan, MD, said the results suggest that pre-COVID vaccination may protect against diabetes risk. "Although further studies are needed to validate this hypothesis, we remain steadfast in our belief that COVID-19 vaccination remains an important tool in protecting against COVID-19 and the still-uncertain risks that people may experience during the post-infection period," he said.

66% greater risk of new diabetes diagnosis
A Penn State meta-analysis published in Scientific Reports included eight studies on new-onset type 1 or 2 diabetes in COVID-19 survivors published from December 2019 to October 2022. The studies included 4,270,747 COVID-19 patients and 43,203,759 uninfected controls with a median age of 43 years.

Many repeat infections are mild, but some studies suggest people who have been infected with COVID more than once are at a greater risk of severe disease or long COVID

The investigators in this case reviewed electronic health records from a more diverse population of 1.5 million COVID patients treated at U.S. hospitals between March 1, 2020 and July 1, 2022. Nearly 6 percent of these individuals had been infected more than once, and in most cases, the reinfections occurred when the original Omicron variant was spreading (November 2021 to mid-March 2022).

Early COVID variants often invaded the lungs, yet a recently posted preprint by scientists in Japan reports that in people who are vaccinated or previously sickened with COVID, reinfection by Omicron subvariants tends to mostly affect the nose and upper airways. The antiviral immune attack generates uncomfortable symptoms, but they also tend to resolve quickly. Citing these data, Boucher says these findings help to confirm that even though vaccination will not prevent reinfection or an upper airway illness, “it can help to protect you from far more troublesome systemic infections and bad outcomes, such as the need for mechanical ventilation, or death.” Moreover, since vaccines blunt the severity of initial COVID infections, by extension, they should limit the severity of future infections as well, says Moffitt.

At first I was reluctant to take the horse paste, but desperation made me give it a go. Not problematic at all. I just take my dab when needed and it works very well. And if it wasn't for GLP I would be totally ignorant about this health tool.

the only side effect we have ever heard of is blurry vision with large doses and taking every day. i do know ppl who take several meds and are known to show up issues when adjusting or adding meds ,and they report no side effects at all. very safe med to use.

The unjabbed will have innate immunity after infection so at little risk of reinfection.
