looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
The past few days I have experienced a rapid, strange pattern.

I will think a certain thought and then I will think it again immediately after, then I will think it again and again, and then I'll move my thoughts toward something else, which will loop as well. WTF is up with this?

Like here were my thought processes when going to post this:

"This is weird, my thoughts are looping. My thoughts are looping. I've got to post about that. I've got to post about how my thoughts are looping. I'll post that my thoughts are looping. My thoughts are looping."

It's so superfluous, it's never been like that before, I'll just think the same thing over and over lately, and it's not even deep in thought, like one thought on loop.

I think I see how sensitive minds are, I have this fear of time folding on itself and we all live the same 1 second stretch of time for eternity... maybe that is what losing ones mind is, only in thoughts. Anyone know what this is???

Re: looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
You are not your thoughts.
You are the awareness behind the thoughts. Thoughts are often negative and painful, yearning for or fearing something in the future, complaining about something in the present or fearing a matter from the past. However, the thoughts are not you, although your ego wants you to think that. Awareness of your thoughts without being caught up in them is the first step to freedom.

I think it's a sign that means that you should tell me who your dealer is, since he's got some good stuff. :>

On a more serious note, it can have several causes if you look at it from a psychology standpoint;

See for example;

Under Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Quite frankly if you are hindered by it go see your doctor who will probably send you to a shrink (that being said I personally _really_ wouldn't take drugs that shrinks prescribe for "diseases", but then again not all shrinks do :>)

It means you are in your head and not breathing. It is your brains way of hyperventilating. Get out of your head and the thoughts stop on a dime.

Dude, you need to press the Loop button on the CD player... didn´t you see that it was on?

Now that you can see you are in a loop... that is the first step. Most people cant see the loop that they are in - and everyone is in a loop.

Getting out of the loop is the harder part, though. I think you should try to make the loop bigger and longer first, and you might break out of it eventually...you might.

It could be bipolar disorder or some sort of mania. Google symptoms and check it out. I surely don't suggest you get any psychiatric meds though - those docs just shoot in the dark and hope something works.

This is fairly accurate. You'll find that the mind functions little differently from a computer, as that's just what it is. If you continually max-out your usage of one or more components of the system, there will certainly be a burnout. Have you ever heard of a 'mad scientist' or someone being 'driven insane?' Anyone is completely capable of becoming another version of Charles Manson or the crazy bag lady who you see walking down the street yelling obscenities at people.

Anything can be overdone and cause significant, forever altering damage. For example, if you continually think about a lost love and can't shake his/her memory, if you think of him/her frequently enough, you'll damage yourself psychologically. If you feel that it's impossible for the universe to have formed into existence from nothing, or that it's impossible for both the universe to go on forever OR to end somewhere, and if you continually ponder these things, you will cause damage. You're stressing the mind, causing your 'processor' to overheat because it's crunching too much data, in essence, causing it to 'hyperventilate.' You're gonna melt your CPU...

You'd be surprised how many of the people you would deem 'nuts' became that way because of 'looping' thoughts. Most who weren't born with extreme disorder of the brain probably became the way they are (at least in part) because they kept harping on something and when their minds didn't manage to find what they were looking for, they cracked up a bit - and that trend continued with each of the subjects they considered, cracking more and more until they finally broke.

What you think is what you're experiencing, and experiences can be very physical and very destructive.

Re: looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
Right so, here's my advice to you: When you're 'looping,' repeat (out-loud) 'stop' over and over until your mind ceases to obsess over whichever matter it is. That's sort've like one of the methods people use for quitting smoking. Some place rubber bands on their wrists and snap it each time they have a craving, which is sort've like a physical discipline of your subconscious instinct. In this case, you're distracting yourself with your saying 'stop' and you're also building confidence (subconsciously) in your ability to control your own mind. That confidence along with the characteristics of authority in the word 'stop' should eventually cause you to end such thought immediately upon your stating the word, so long as you consistently do so.

Basically, you're going to be taking a stand against your subconscious, and it will work if you do it. If you do not, then there's a decent chance you will develop something such as Bipolar disorder. 'Looping,' rapid and excessive thought is a symptom of the disease, and if not controlled, a cause for it to become full-blown. The same can be said for other disorders as well though.

Re: looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
Interesting, another thing that has been happening lately is that I will suddenly fall into a 'trance' like state where I don't respond to anyone around me. It happens for 2-10 minutes. I am definitely aware that they're there, and what they're saying, but I can't bring myself to 'respond' to them, the trance is too strong.

That, plus the looping makes me worried that I might have some disorder. I don't smoke or do drugs, but I was on meds for bipolar a couple years ago, but it doesn't seem as though this is connected to that, it is as if I've suddenly gone nuts.

Late at night when I'm awake is especially strange, everything around me suddenly 'feels' alive ... in fact 3-4 AM is when I feel most scared of ghosts.

Re: looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
Maybe mild obsessive/compulsive or as someone posted above, bipolar.

If it's mild and you can still function then let it roll past you. Most people get some form of this from time to time even it's just a particular song or tune stuck in your head. Try not to dwell on it and keep the mind occupied with other things such as crosswords, puzzels or being creative while your not working or otherwise going about your daily tasks.

If you suspect bipolar then try this site

Try looking at it like it is an equation. Your thinking right now has only a few variables that give the same answer. Try adding more and more variables to the equation. Eventually, you should reach a different conclusion.

I dont think having a bipolar or many personalities is a bad thing. In fact, I think it is a good thing. You can see yourself if there are two of you... like looking in a mirror. It allows you to learn about yourself and gain intelligence.

Don´t let people mess with your mind with those schizo drugs unless you absolutely need them.

It wasn't an official diagnosis, I just saw my doctor, described some symptoms and he said they are bipolar, so he put me on meds which I took for a bit, then stopped taking them after a couple months... that's the only brush I've had with health, compulsively wanting to end it all for a while and zigzagging between highs and lows, but have been pretty regular the last year or so, though one can also attribute that to living with my GF vs. being alone and stuck in my brain.

Re: looping thoughts, thinking the same thoughts over and over, what does it mean???
My experience with loop thinking is that it's motivated by feelings and emotions. Those emotions can't always be trusted as truth. Usually, insecurity or fear will be the 'force or source' of these emotions. Emotions aren't good or bad, they just are/exist. Usually seeking the truth is the reality that can be trusted. So, fear and insecurity will cause a person to continue the 'self-speak' of emotions. I hope that helps. hf

I used to have similar problems when I was in a deep depression.
Short bits of music would play over and over in my head, too.
Now that I have overcome the depression (and NO meds, either) I don't have this problem.

Yeah, I've always had difficulty making eye contact with people, I've had social anxiety as a child, and preferred to live in my own head as an introvert. I am also a 'compulsive' artist in that if I don't regularly put pen to paper, I feel a physical pain and pain in the soul... I don't even enjoy my artwork either, it is mainly just abstract shapes and patterns, not enjoyable but if I don't do it, it will hurt. The past few weeks, my 'art' is getting more and more incoherent as well.

Here is another thing, I am getting hypnogic imagery to the extreme, even right now if I close my eyes the light and darkness is dancing intensely, at night it gets even crazier, that's what made me think I am getting messed with by spirits.
