This to me is exactly why kids are able to get away with so much today. The parents are afraid to discipline them, for fear of getting in trouble for it like this guy has.

At any rate, I think 16 is too old for spanking. If your child hasn't learned by then, a spanking isn't going to be much help.

I agree, I gave spankings to my son, by but the time he was 6, there was no more need. As a single mom raising a son, a look was all I needed.

This is exctally why teenagers are killing teenagers. They have no fear of their parents punishment. This had nothing to do with her age. It was because he used physical force in punishing her.

We were not there to see what led to his spanking his daughter and how much spanking was done. Shoot as far as the article says there was nothing mentioned except that he spanked her. He could have just popped her once on the behind but that consituted physical punishment(spanking).

All this did was to further teach the children that it's ok to disrespect an adult, you won't get punished. He may have said he was taking away her priviledges and she may have argued even more to the point the father was left with nothing more to do than to smack her behind to remind her he was the adult in charge and not her.

Keep making excuses and approving this type of punishment to parents who try to decipline their children and your going to see more kids who have NO RESPECT for authority. And then you can go about your bitching when you come across a illmannered child who has no respect for you and calls you obscene names just because you asked them to please get off your car. And then try to blame their parents for not parenting correctly. Well doh, they can't without going to jail for trying.

I'm not saying brutality is acceptable. But a good swift smack on the ass is not brutal it's sometimes necessary. We've lost a generation here people and if we don't put a stop to it soon you might as well just dig your grave and jump in it, because this is the generation who will be in charge when your old, and they won't have any respect for their elders to give a shit about you at all.

Child abuse is a crime, but one smack on the ass isn't abuse. Its repeated beating on a child because you've lost your temper that is abusive.

After generations of Australian's not being allowed to discipline their children the state has now introduced several laws that simple politeness taught at home would have covered.

Has that been their idea all along. Take away the parents rights to tell the kids right from wrong and then make money for the state on correctional measures.

I am the girls mother in this story. Since the media is leaving out the details of the story I feel it is my duty to make the public aware of the truth in this case. This man is a child abuser, a wife abuser. He has a history of child and spousal abuse, as well as animal abuse.
What you aren't being told by the media is how he left bruises and his hand prints on her thigh for over 8 days before they finally began to fade away! You aren't being told how the police officer went and called the dept. of children's services himself, the school nurse as well. You aren't being told how my daughter couldn't sit due to pain, she was limping, and her pants touching her leg was very painful for her.
You aren't being told that she was sitting in the floor and 'daddy' sat on top of her and hit her at least 20-30 times!
You aren't being told by the media that this father accused said daughter of doing this to herself; that she was 'coming after him'!!

This man was found guilty of DOMESTIC ASSAULT here. Some of you can't get past the word spanking. This word is being used for a knee jerk reaction from the public!
