there is also another interesting point to consider
The countries affected and probably all other countries which are not involved in the "cuttergang", will start to rethink their way of connecting to the internet.
It is ofcourse a "good" opportunity to show the weak point of the internet.
It is also dangerous to let your economy be so dependent on the communications through these cables.
New strategies will come from this. Unfortunately, the normal (read peaceful) citizen is caught in the middle. |

no links that you provided (nor any news i've searched with google, yahoo and ask.com) says that 6,7,8,9 or even more cables are cut.
the article you provided from this guy who wrote it ASSUMES and CLAIMS that 6,7,8,9 or even more cables are cut, yet provides no evidence what so ever that this is really the case.
it's nothing more than a rumor.
feel free to proof me wrong.

i've seen no news that said that more than 5 cables were cut.
don't let us make it worse than it already is.
5 cable cuts are obvious war preparations...but it's not more than 5 so far.

I think the official explanation will be in the Marseille case
2) the SeaMeWe-4 cable was cut off the Egyptian coast and mistakenly reported as being cut off the coast of France,
Also my guess is ,after putting togheter KhaleejTimes BandarAbbas with the date, it was a FALCON cable wasnt it?
"initially unreported cable cut on 23 January 2008 (Persian Gulf?)" is the same as, "one off of Bandar Abbas, Iran in the Persian Gulf"
As you say the KhaleejTimes is the ONLY one mentioning

The one that puzzels me is
"one in the Suez, Egypt" reading through some Saudi media I got the impression that there had been a cut outide Saudi Arabia somewhere, but that they fixed it very fast. could that be the one in Suez. Or whas that misinformation from the Saudis? |

We'll find out soon enough when divers begin inspecting the cause. I expect they'll find the cables were stretched to the point of breaking. |

Where's some evidence of this "expanding earth" theory?
Have any scientists measured this new earth movement lately in relation to this area?
Have any satellites picked this movement up?
Can such movement really account for eight or nine breaks?
Wouldn't they build some slack into the lines?
And, they don't all appear to be at land connections:

35 miles off the coast doesn't sound like a land connection to me as was stated earlier.
there are so many things there is no evidence for, but again, something u don't need evidence for....
but, im not 100% sure if the earth is expanding, but, its weird that cables and bridges a fallen apart around the world. i have an articel in danish in a book, so i can't copy it, but the say, that, the heat from the earth middel, when its cool down higher up in earth, the heatcenter of earh is growing, i will try to see if i can find any on this. so, hold on and i try find more on this.

Bad weather delayed the arrival of the ships off Alexandria, where two of the damaged cables are. The other breaks occurred on a looped cable that was cut in two places, off the coast of Dubai and between islands near Iran, where bad weather also is hampering repair efforts.

To clear up the question of how they know exactly where the fault occurred....it's common in network troubleshooting to use a technique called time domain reflectometry. They plug in the old TDR cable tester and it will tell you within 3 feet the distance to the fault. This has been around a long time. |
