Federal Reserve disaster.

There's no [mainstream] news coverage on it yet so this qualifies as a serious heads up.
Note the second numeric column. $40 Billion, has been since 1913, by law. Then notice it suddenly drops to $198 million and then two days ago the report lists the banks as minus $8.7 Billion, something which has never happened before.
How bad is it?
Think Weimar Republic. The Fed can no longer stop inflation because the banks can't secure new money with debt. People aren't buying debt anymore. Ergo, hyperinflation is the natural consequence.
Mark this day on your calendar.
Because this Federal Reserve chart, showing that the Net Free or Borrowed Reserves (NFORBRES) of Depository Institutions just fell off a cliff. Let's pray that there aren't any bank runs soon, because the till is empty.

It is a jolly good thing that the Fed is handing out so much cheap money these days, so the member banks can list part of these funds as "reserves."
so what is about to happen? yoour guess is as good as mine, but MY GUESS is the TPTB, ( you know the ones involved in 911 ) will not let it spin out of control and will either pull another stunt like noo yoik or possibly help out the bird flu situation ... because if you are going to have a crashed economy, best to have SOMETHING ELSE to blame it on...
got some food? better, as it's about to go up A LOT...
got some seeds to plant more? I hope so...
got any to share with people too stupid to prepare? might be a good idea...
got any solar panels and batteries, in case the grid gets "unstable"
got bicycles to ride to get supplies if the gas pumps are not working or TOO EXPENSIVE? xtra tubes and tires> remember all rubber ( and tires ) comes from OVERSEAS
got meds for a flu or prolonged quarantine? may not WANT to go out to get more...

Buy lots of Spam. It lasts 50 years! Use it to flavor bean soup, etc. Back in the 70s, the same scenario was on our doorstep and I bought a few cans of Sam Andy powdered milk. Still have it, and am hoping it is still good.

but seriously... remember to get paper and writing utensils as well. many people just don't even care to do so, but it is a good idea to keep a "journal" during such times. helps you keep track of the seasons, weather patterns, etc... and also, you have your story written somewhere. you can share it with your children's children if you make it, and you'll make some future historian's day if you don't

wouldn't that mean that we are going to see deflation? No more debt means the money supply shrinks.. this causes credit to tighten even more and could cause banks to call in loans.. in a rush to pay off debt, the money supply vanishes.. deflation.
How is it hyperinflation? |

I think this has to do with the "emergency" Fed auctions of 35 day papaer started in December. As of the most recent auction, about $40b is out.
Since this paper is cheaper for the banks to borrow than to borrow from each other, for this amount they have stopped borrowing from each other.
This is skewing the chart. There are probably discussions pertaining to this on www.tickerforum.org

Was watching the $3.1 Trillion budget hearings last night. The 'Economic Stimulus Package' is totally worthless and by the time it gets here will be sending somewhat good money after bad, a waste of money and a waste producing ever much greater debt.
Bush's purposed $3.1 Trillion 2009 Budget purposal reflects an additional taxation amount of $10,000 per man, women, and child, citizen, legal resident and illegal resident cost upon all that live in the USA, and this is just for that one year's budget. This has nothing to do with the already 9+ Trillion debt this nation already has. This 9+ Trillion reflects a taxation load for all of the above already of over $30,000 per man, woman, and child. Bush's new 2009 budget would bring the total debt load up to $40,000 per man, woman and child. |

It was already on the ticker forum last week. What you really need to do is scroll down to the second table on the Fed Reserve page. (The first table that the OP pointed out is seasonally adjusted.) The second table, second column has even higher negative numbers in January.
I think they can keep this going for about a year. Not much past that until/unless something is moved it to change the whole dynamics.
Isn't it funny there are all these undersea cable breaks right when the Fed reports negative numbers.
P.S. As a side note, apparently the St. Louis Fed posted negative numbers as well and then removed them. There was a whole discussion on the ticker forum about it and what it could mean. It should get really interesting by the summer. |

Just incase anyone is interested, im thinking about buying a little bit of solar equipment to make sure i have power incase none is available.
I know solar is expensive, but if you think about it it times like these, if the grid fails, your electricity bills will be nil, so all you really need is a setup that can sustain a fridge and freezer constantly so you can hold food, and so you dont have to worry about going to the gathering center and getting vacinated with god knows what.
I have been looking at this setup for a while now and it is fully complete, with all the necisary components you will need. It is plug and play.
Now, it is aprox. $1200 for everything you will need, with extra panels and bateries extra and i know $1200 is alot of money to some ppl, but think of what it will cost you if you dont consider this option.
ps. if you are getting tax money back, plus that stimulus money you might consider this as your purchase. I know i am.
