It´s the love of money. But envy of money runs a close second.

No, power is the root of all evil. None can possess it and ultimately not use it for selfish, evil purposes. At least I know of no one who has power and can yield it for the good of others.

Evangeline - Why do you consider power to be the root of all evil? Each person is enabled with innate power and cultivates it in varying degrees. Having said that, I presume that you actually mean it is the cultivation of an individual´s power that determines whether it is used for evil purposes or not. So in effect, power is not evil in and of itself, right?

No. There are plenty of evil people with motivations other than money: Hitler, Stalin, mass murderers, etc.

Money has inherent value, just like water or houses. Loving money is definitely materialistic, but not evil per se.

Slander is the root of all evil. It causes the innocent to suffer and promotes lies over truth.

There is that which is beneficial and that which is detrimential[sp]. Be careful often circimstances dictate which is which.
This is suming it up in a simple way. It is a bit more complex.
