Romney to endorse McCain for GOP nomination

CNN) -- Former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney plans to announce Thursday that he is backing Sen. John McCain in his bid for the Oval Office, two sources familiar with the decision said.

A source familiar with the decision said Romney wants to endorse McCain "in the interest of healing."

The source said Romney also wants to help McCain move faster to "secure the nomination and unite the party for the general election against the Democrats for November."

Romney will "release" his delegates to McCain, meaning he will encourage them to get behind McCain's candidacy. the source said.

The former Massachusetts governor earlier this month suspended his campaign, saying it was in his party's best interest.

Continuing his campaign for the White House would "forestall the launch of a national campaign and be making it easier for Senator [Hillary] Clinton or [Barack] Obama to win."

Romney had collected 286 delegates before he suspended his campaign two weeks ago.

Those delegates would give McCain 1,013 total delegates, 78 short of securing the nomination.

McCain's rival for the nomination, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, presently has 217 delegates, according to CNN estimates.

Romney is expected to announce his endorsement of the senator from Arizona at a news conference from Romney's Boston, Massachusetts, headquarters at 3:30 ET.

A top Romney aide has already called McCain's campaign manager, and McCain, who is campaigning in New England, will join Romney for the announcement.

Guess we all know how this will play out here at GLP. All 280 delegates will go to Ron Paul. Those delegates were just waiting to be released so they could vote for Ron cuz they love the constitution and he is the only honest man in the world. He will cure cancer too and make pot legal.

Romney has voluntarily, or been forced to, sell out to the illegal aliens, like Traitor McCain.

Someone must have PROMISED HIM that McCain will serve only one term if elected, and all the Republican "powers that be" told Romney, "if you don't play ball now, FORGET any help in 2012".

Romney caved.

While there are some honest statements in your post I don't think RP will be able to cure cancer or make pot legal.

I do think he would have a positive effect on the economy and the US war against Iraqi civilians.

Or maybe Mitt was offered the job of VP for his delegates.

Well PAC you may have been trying to be an instigator of a fight, but this time you might not be too far off.

As we know, the conservatives of the party are not happy with McInsane. Not only will he not pull the conservatives in the Romney pool, but we are aware that McCain would be slaughtered by the Democrats.

If these Romney delegates were truly committed to him, and this whole Repub party thing is still in play, they will not fall in line with McCain... they know that would insure a loss in November. And if in the off chance that McCain does not lose, the White House would not be conservative at all.
