Windows Vista Horror Stories
I guess by now every body knows what a piece of crap Windows Vista is. Except maybe Microsoft, and the select few that have actually got it to run on their computers.
Vista is a total nightmare, starting out. At first install, it took about 5 hours to finally get my hardware to where Vista Home Basic would even install.
It is finally up and running, so, like the dumbass that I am, I decide I want Aero glass, becuase Vista Home basic doesn't have Aero in it. I piss away another $80 bucks to get it using Anytime upgrade (which is a nightmare in itself), and after a few hours, it is finally installed. Well after Vista installs 100 megs of updates, it reboots. Once the OS is booted and running, I start getting hangs, blue screens and crashes. So much so that I can't even attempt to fix it. So what do, I try to reinstall it. Well, your product key only works once, after that you have to call India, and beg them to let you reinstall it. All together, just to get Windows Vista home basic up and running, between the hangs and crashes, about 6 hours, then I want to upgrade back to Windows Vista Home premium.

To do a reinstall to get to Windows Vista Home Premium using the anytime upgrade, first you have to install Vista Home basic, which is about 4 hours of your time, then you have to call India and beg them to let you activate it, then if I want to upgrade to Home premium, you have to reinstall Vista ALL OVER AGAIN, wasting another 4 hours, and then I have to call India a second time, just to activate the Home Premium version. And if it starts crashing then... UUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH

I should have listened to the Horror stories and reviews.
DO NOT DO IT, Vista is a piece of crap, and don't get the Anytime Upgrade or it will compound your nightmares 10 fold.

One good thing about Vista is it is a huge boost for Apple and Linux.
I am certainly looking forward to joining any class action lawsuits against Micro$oft, and being a legal user and going to seek out all of the activation hacks I can, because Vista is a scam.

I'm totally freaked out by how cool PCLinuxOS is and have Windows XP installed under it as as virtual machine for rare occasions when I need it.

Vista is more stable than XP and the most secure operating system, currently available.

"Windows Vista users generally experience 20 percent fewer application "hangs" than those running Windows XP6."

"Windows Vista has been shown to have fewer vulnerabilities than Windows XP or MacOS X 10.4"

Re: Windows Vista Horror Stories
vista works fine here.. some people just like to be melodramatic all the time... or they use it on outdated hardware and wonder why it's slow.

If you have a single core processor or a PC built before the release of vista, you shouldn't be using vista. If you built your PC after vista or use a dual core processor, then vista might be right for you.

You should be using vista on that old 2 GHZ pentium 4 from 2003.

MS has never been a company that stands by its products and offers any support.

I remember a few years ago I called them and thought I was on a toll-free support line and to my horror when my phone bill arrived found out those cheap ass bastards didn't have a free support line. Cost me a chunk for those calls as I was talking to them all day.

I have vista business on my home computer, I'm pleased with it, occasionally if I have too many tabs open it starts running slow, other than that, I haven't had any of the problems you list, course it was a higher version also. Works great with my DSL, happy with it.

What exactly is Windows XP6 (besides more clueless bullshit)?

Latest version I know of is XP Service Pack 2 - soon to be 3 because Microsoft knows that enterprise shops are NOT rolling to Vista.

By the way, Vista Service Pack 1 was pulled because it completely fucked up people's PCs! Sent them into an endless reboot cycle.

You like Vista, I don't mind. I personally won't touch it even with your computer

Re: Windows Vista Horror Stories
Vista sucks. When it comes time to upgrade my OS, I'm switching to Ubuntu or some other Linus OS, and maybe in time, Windows 7.

Vista is slow. Vista can't run very many programs. Hell, my friend has vista, and whenever he tries to watch a Stage6 video (hi-def youtube, essentially), his OS switches themes. Programs I use just fine on XP, common programs that a lot of people use (like Team Fortress 2 and Final Fantasy XI) randomly lock up his computer. It's not a performance issue, as his specs can run games like Oblivion (very intensive graphically) at full settings, but games like Final Fantasy XI, an older game with old graphics, cannot run so smoothly.

Nothing but problems with Vista.

Not to mention how Vista essentially holds the user's hand :/

Oh yeah, install Vista SP1. It is orders of magnitude better. I have a Dell Latitude D420 w 2GB ram and a solid state hard drive that was mostly unusable until I installed SP1. Now it is quite usable. (I had even downgraded it to XP for a while.)

P.S. If you get the MAC, get the 30" display, it rocks. Coupled with my 24" display, I have plenty of screen real estate.

Vista blows. I bought Vista Ultimate. I have a mean machine too. But had nothing but problems with it. After talking to 3 differant techies in India I was about to kill someone. So I decided to just reinstall XP. I love my XP and might think about reinstalling Vista after the service pack is out.

Actually I have a new Gigabyte MP6 with an AMD 4600 X2 processor, with new WD Sata drives, 2 gigs ram and Vista still sucks. Some people that believe in it are the lucky few that got it to work. Windows XP has been really good, PCLinuxOS is the bomb, but it can't run all of my programs I paid lots of money for. Once Linux and wine come of age, I will most definitely dump Microsoft. I'm tired of the shams.
Microsoft is so worried about not making their Billions that they have to trash Vista. And Windows 7 will be the same, because Micro$oft will still be worried about making billions of dollars on mediocre software.
Their customer support stinks, and they are so big, they don't give a dam about their customers.
