Religious xperts: How far back does religion go?
Don't want to start a religion argument here, but what is considered to be the oldest religion(s). I keep thinking Judiasm because of the oldest characters mentioned, but I some say that pagans, Buddhism, Native Indian and South American Indians are just as old? I'm lost. I'm not religious, but I just want to know.

The creation has gone through creation cycles since the FALL...
The earth is multidimensional...SO...
"Pray for solace..Pray for resolve..Pray for a savior..Pray for deliverance..Some kind of purpose..A glimpse of a LIGHT in this VOID OF EXISTENCE..Now witness the END of an age..Hope dies in hands of believers..Who seek the truth in the LIAR'S EYE"

"The greatest TRICK the Devil ever pulled was not convincing the world he doesn't exist..But convincing it that he is GOD"

"I have no pleasure in any man who despises music. It is no invention of ours: It is a gift of GOD. I place it next to theology. Satan hates music: He knows how it drives the EVIL spirit OUT of US."
- Martin Luther

"What have I done?..Where have I come from?..When I burnt the backs with the SUN through a GLASS..Did I SEAL the loss that's become me?.. Feeling undone..What have I become? ..When I turned my back on you..I turned my back on MYSELF and became this MACHINE"

"What you IGNORE now..Will come OUT of YOU later"

"Stones to throw at my Creator..
MASOCHISTS to which I cater..You don't need to bother..I don't need to be..I'll keep slipping farther..
But once I hold on..I won't let go 'til it BLEEDS"

Buddhism - Hinduism

The teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and Indian Hinduism-not to mention several other world traditions-support the anomalous archaeological findings in suggesting that humanity has a far longer provenance on our planet than western science allows. This idea is preserved in Hinduism to the present day, especially in the doctrine of the yugas. The term yuga means "age" and refers to the Hindu belief that humanity has lived on our planet during four separate and distinct time periods: the Krita Yuga, the Treta Yoga, the Dvapara Yuga and the Kali Yuga, the first three of which have already been and gone. The names of the ages are rooted in the Sanskrit terms for four of the sides of a die, with the Krita Yoga derived from the side showing the figure 4, Treta Yoga 3, Dvapara Yuga 2, and Kali Yuga 1. This reflects the Hindu conviction that the degree of righteousness in the world diminished in an arithmetical progression as time went on.

Krita Yuga: is seen as a primeval golden age, characterized by piety, peace and plenty. The world had one God, one truth, one scripture and one rule. Fear was unknown, as was hatred, deceit or malice. This age lasted 1,728,000 years.

Treta Yoga: which was only three-quarters as righteous as the age before. Unity of religion still held sway, but now humanity no longer followed spiritual pursuits for their own sakes, but rather in the hope of reward. The Treta Yuga spanned a further 1,296,000 years.

Dvapara Yuga:, in which righteousness again diminished by a quarter. Now the single truth and single scripture fragmented into four. Humanity moved further and further from the ways of good and as a consequence found itself beset by disease and disaster. This age lasted 864,000 years.

Kali Yuga: the age in which we are living now. Once again righteousness was reduced so that in our present time we are only one quarter as spiritual as our most distant ancestors. Most of humanity no longer makes sacrifice to the One God. Hunger and fear have become commonplace, as have natural and man-made disasters. This age is destined to last 432,000 years. (The Secret History Of Ancient Egypt, Herbie Brennan. pgs 201-202)

judaism the oldest?

hmmm, lets see:

abraham was from the city of Ur:

Ur was inhabited in the earliest stage of village settlement in southern Mesopotamia, the Ubaid period. However, it later appears to have been abandoned for a time. Scholars believe that, as the climate changed from relatively moist to drought in the early 3rd millennium BC, the small farming villages of the Ubaid culture consolidated into larger settlements, arising from the need for large-scale, centralized irrigation works to survive the dry spell. Ur became one such center, and by around 2600 BC, in the Sumerian Early Dynastic Period III, the city was again thriving. Ur by this time was considered sacred to Nanna.

moses & co were supposed to live somewhere around 1200 bc

and others, like for instance zarathustra:
(his datation is a bit problematic)
Until the late 1800s, Zoroaster was generally dated to about the sixth century BCE, which coincided with both the “Traditional date” (see details below) and historiographic accounts (Ammianus Marcellinus xxiii.6.32, fourth c. CE). However, already at the time (late nineteenth century), the issue was far from settled, with James Darmesteter pleading for a later date (c. 100 BCE) and others pleading for dates as early as 6000 BCE.[e]

hinduism:

The earliest evidence for elements of Hinduism date back to the late Neolithic to the early Harappan period (5500–2600BCE).

Something like paganism (revering gods representing natural phenomena like rivers, trees etc.) that where done by some old tribal societies or some generic polytheism (mainly revering gods that represent something, eg. god of war, god of fertility, god of death etc.) that most early civilizations had. The paganism part is hard to put a real starting date of it since most tribal societies didn't write or had any settlements we have found.

The polytheistic belief system can be found in Mesopotamia has been dated around 5000 BC the egyptians had another version of a polytheistic belief system around 4000 BC. Other good examples are the Romans, the Greeks and Carthage.

Monotheistic religions like Judaism, Zoroasterism, Muslim or christian beliefs where founded in ancient egypt as well around the time of Amenhotep IV of 1500 BC. Judaism was founded around 350 BC.

This doesn't include stuff like the reveration of ancestors (which probably predates everything) and is a bit simplified.

Re: Religious xperts: How far back does religion go?
Hello, i am shocked by this. I was brought up in an organized religion and this is the first time i ever herd any of this. But i have been searching and could not find any truth in what the churches would say because history tells it different then the churches do. The time lines were all different because they all want you to believe them. For a long time i thought that Ghidingod was a hugh mass of energy and we all came from this energy and when we die we go back to this energy again but after this i do not know but i hope we do not come back here again? Can anyone shed somoe light on this? Thanks!

Don't take this the wrong way as I do not mean to condemn or judge. But isn't it true that only good doctors tell you the truth about your disease?

If there is a God and if there is a message from that God then it is clear as to why the roots of religion are lost in the mists of history: irrelevancy!

God has permitted us to know enough about the history of religion to be able to make a personal decision, because it is and has always been about you - and God! There aren't 6.5 billion people in the world; there aren't innumerable religions in the world; there aren't pantheons of gods in the world; there is only you and only God and what you do with what you know!
