Re: Can I chew expired Nicorette?
Yes. It just may have lost some of it's potency. Not dangerous - just potentially a little bit weaker than it would have been within code date.

Nicotine patches hold their full "charge" for up to three years past the listed code date. When they get at or near code - they can be sold for 1/3 to 1/10th the retail prices. So buy them if you use/need them and save a fortune in the process. BTW: in the US the max dose on a nicotine patch is 21mg. IN Europe you can buy and start with a 30 mg dose which works for even a heavy smoker.

In the US - combine a 21 mg and a 7mg patch on at the same time if the 21 mg alone does not help thwart the cravings, etc.

I have been using the product myself, btw the Kroger brand (a grocery store chain) works really well too, it does not taste as good, but it is about 16 bucks a box cheaper.

I have not smoked in almost 2 weeks now, just gotta get off the gum now though...

I'm on my 5th box of gum. And I'm back to smoking. Now I'm addicted to both. I'll probably try to quit the gum first because it cost more than smoking. :)

Re: Can I chew expired Nicorette?
After 10+ years as a therapist specializing in smoking cessation I do know something about this.

First off read the literature: it clearly states that one possible side effect is a hole in your stomach.

Secondly, you won't cut down at all, you will simply get your nicotine from another and equally dangerous source. When you quit using the gum you will simply go back to cigs.

Thirdly, if it is expired it is even more dangerous than when new.

You need to address the habit and remove it from your subconscious mind. Clinical Hypnotherapy has been shown to be pretty much the ONLY approach that has long term success. Might want to try that. Look for a clinic that advertises stop smoking in 22 minutes or a similar amount of time. Usually they are using the system that really works. If you are anywhere near San Diego CA look in the papers for a similar ad, look for a therapist name of Larry Westerman DCH.

Too bad you started smoking whenever, even more too bad that you only want to cut down. One cig a day removes ALL the benefits of being a non smoker. ONE. (American Cancer Society statistic).

Good luck.

Re: Can I chew expired Nicorette?
i understand the plight of a cigarette smoker. I have given up many addiction. I have left behind many things. This one I always go back to. I have quit several times. I am not a quitter so I have yet to give up. I am from Washington State. That corner state you know. Not DC. Our state was one of the states that sued the tobacco companies and won. It was billions of dollars not millions. When this happened I a smoker thought cool maybe now I can get some support. Not necessarily a treatment but patches, gum, medical support for my addiction or lack of self control or whatever you want to call it. Hell, my government sells them to me and since very soon they are going to make many who smoke criminals it would only make sense they would with this large amount of dollars support the people they felt a need to sue the tobacco companies for in their behalf. Well, I forgot it is my government. When this happened I discussed this with my doctor. He asked me to write my congressman. Many doctors were angry. My doctor too assumed there would be for support for them too. Hell, they have the prescription pad. Well, my doctor as I did forgot. It is our government. I did as he asked. Lot of good that did. Yes, they put a few billboards up. Made a few commercials. Actually, in reality alot of those came free they had high school students make them for class. DARE YOU KNOW. The majority of this money went into the general fund. This was several years ago. That money is spent. I hope our governor pukes on her dinner her slaves feed her and others on her new fine European china. I hope her dog shits on her new divan. So, I being a rebel with many causes investigated this at a small scale. In our state if you really want to go through the pain in the ass they have made it to get these little aids free they are available. I just made a search. I went to Washington state law suit against tobacco companies. Many websites there. I do not know what state you are from your choice. Just giving knowledge. Peace to You My Friend. Good Luck. We are the next criminal. A Time For Peace. A Time for War. The Time for War is Now.

You have just created a nice little neural-linguistic catch 22 for yourself. How CAN you ever hope to QUIT cigarettes if you are NOT A QUITTER?

You have to think of yourself as a "Quitter" if you are ever going to be successful quitting smoking cigarettes.

I've been chewing this stuff for 10 years now! I like it better than smoking... Save my lungs, but now I'm addicted to this!

I figure - well I quit drinking, quit smoking - the gum is about a 200$ a month habit - but still cheaper than my drinking snortn, ect....

My mother in'law had a 2 year old box, it had lost all it's taste, and probably some of the nicotine. I chew the mint stuff.

the Nicorette with the hard shell, doesn't last as long. I buy the 170 piece box -it's about 65$, but there is a 5$ coupon - if you cut the box open it's on the inside.

I also take a shot of Benedryle every night. It helps me sleep. Don't feel groggie in the morning - So yea I traded my alcoholic habbits and my drug habits in for something else - but I haven't missed any work or had any hangovers for 12 years!
Whatever works! Save your lungs and your liver bro.....

If you leave a stick of gum in water with tobacco in it, over night, you can make your own "Nicorette".

Be warned though, the amount of nicotine in the gum could stop your heart faster than a bullet.

Prisoners use to do this to get out of work detail.

Re: Can I chew expired Nicorette?
I would advise people not to chew expired Nicorette based on my own experience. I chewed two 4 mg pieces, two years past expiration, and woke up in the night with severe burning chest pain, something that has never happened to me before. I finally vomited and only afterward, did the chest pain subside.

My gum was well past expiration, so my comment is for anyone considering chewing gum long expired.

Even Nicorette's Website acknowledges not to use expired Nicorette. To quote them, their site reads, "No, we cannot suggest that you use expired product since it may not be effective for you. We do not test expired product; therefore, we do not know what type of changes may have occurred in the product. We would suggest that you discard the expired Nicorette." You can find this at [link to www.nicorette.com]

And I think not knowing what type of "changes" occur in the product should alarm anyone not to chew expired gum. The chest pain I experienced was over the top – pretty frightening.

I put on an expired nicotine patch once and it felt like my kidneys were on fire... I don't know what the chemicals break down into, but I would advise against it... Unless your into vital organ pain.

Re: Can I chew expired Nicorette?
I hope no one read this a believed a word. To claim that clinical hypnotherapy is the only approach with long term success is irresponsible and innacurate. If you were truly a liscenced therapist, one with a graduate degree and credentials, you would know better than to make such a broad statement as your graduate level work would have taught you not to make such broad stroke claims. But that is beside the point- I feel confident that you are likely not a liscenced therapist and are speaking from emotion and ignorance, rather than actual data. "Even more too bad" was the most telling quote.

Seeing as you sound like a total douche you probably didn't help a single person in those ten years. Maybe you shouldn't be giving advice.
