I took the Myers-Briggs in college at Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and found out that I am an INFP. Haven't heard much about this lately...interesting to see it come back as I thought major corporations were going to be using it to decide how/where to place the workers.

ENFP here. I use Myers-Briggs in my business. Not necessarily to place employees, rather how my managers and I package information best for the type. It does help us to determine which employees will work better with each other (complimentary) on various parts of a given project.

Kat,

Your exhibitting typical Introvert traits.

Science studies show that Introverts actually have different wiring in the brain, therefore we're locked into.

"Small Talk sucks! Give me Deep Thoughts To keep me energized. Go away extrovert you energy vampire!:" Mentaliity. An no introverts are not "shy" which is a totally different condition.

Type in Introvert into a google search engine alot of good pieces out there now on Introverts and how its a positive thing.

In one study they show that, the internet is predominately populated by introverts. Why? because here we can ourselves. "Deep, Intellectual," Passionate" without having to jump threw extrovert rules of social interaction.

So Kat your not alone.

Nightshade 09

As a total INFJ personality type myself.

Anothr INFJ was the late Mother Thresa of India.

The numbers are little off. Of the over all population of the world INFJ's make up 1-3% of entire population

Checking the Live World Population clock just a minute ago:

6,654,575,080 just a minute ago.

1% = 66,545,780.8
3% = 199,637,252.4

INFJ are basically introvert intellectuals and mysical.

We make the world interesting! ;)

Nightshade 09

Those are cool numbers to consider, least we aren't alone in our INFJ situations! Thanks, can look forward to finding some more of us! Actually I must confess we are all pretty cool folks in general!!

Here we are, all on line, because, at least for me, no one in my part of the world wants to hear what I have to say, what I know, and how I perceive things. I am lonely and depressed. I think too much and I have no one to share it with. This is not always a great place to be.

My J score was 1! Is there anyone else here that cuts others that much slack? I bet Jesus did and I don't think he was too happy with his human existence either.

Re: Only 1% are INFJ personality type, making it the most rare...
the most socially awkward personality types to have. :)

INTPs

INTP types are quiet, thoughtful, analytical individuals who don't mind spending long periods of time on their own, working through problems and forming solutions. They are very curious about systems and how things work, and are frequently found in careers such as science, architecture and law. INTPs tend to be less at ease in social situations and the caring professions, although they enjoy the company of those who share their interests. They also tend to be impatient with the bureaucracy, rigid hierarchies, and politics prevalent in many professions, preferring to work informally with others as equals.[1]

INTPs organize their understanding of any topic by articulating principles, and they are especially drawn to theoretical constructs—such as the MBTI. Having articulated these principles for themselves, they can demonstrate remarkable skill in explaining complex ideas to others in simple terms, especially in writing. On the other hand, their ability to grasp complexity may also lead them to provide overly detailed explanations of "simple" ideas, and listeners may judge that the INTP makes things more difficult than they are. This to the INTP, however, is incomprehensible: they are merely presenting all of the information.[1]

INTPs' extroverted intuition gives them a quick wit, especially with language, and they can defuse the tension in gatherings by comical observations and references. They can be charming, even in their quiet reserve, and are often astounded by the high esteem in which their friends and colleagues hold them.[1]

An insulted INTP, however, has a tendency to unveil their full mastery of logical intuition. Many previously secure, confident people have been left crushed by an INTP's sudden and piercingly accurate criticism. After such an incident, the INTP is as likely to be as devastated as the recipient; they have broken the rules of debate and exposed their irrational emotions. This to an INTP is the crux of the problem: emotions are to be dealt with in a logical manner, as improperly handled they can only harm.

INTJs

INTJs are very analytical individuals. Like INTPs, they are more comfortable working alone than with other people, and are not usually as sociable as others, although they are prepared to take the lead if nobody else is up to the task, or they see a major weakness in the current leadership. They tend to be very pragmatic and logical individuals, often with an individualistic bent and a low tolerance for spin or rampant emotionalism. They are also commonly not susceptible to catchphrases and commonly do not recognize authority based on tradition, rank or title.
“ INTJs are strong individualists who seek new angles or novel ways of looking at things. They enjoy coming to new understandings. They are insightful and mentally quick; however, this mental quickness may not always be outwardly apparent to others since they keep a great deal to themselves. They are very determined people who trust their vision of the possibilities, regardless of what others think. They may even be considered the most independent of all of the sixteen personality types. INTJs are at their best in quietly and firmly developing their ideas, theories, and principles.[3] ”

Hallmark features of the INTJ personality type include independence of thought, strong individualism and creativity. Persons with this personality type work best given large amounts of autonomy and creative freedom. They harbor an innate desire to express themselves; that is to be creative by conceptualizing their own intellectual designs. Analyzing and formulating complex theories are among their greatest strengths. INTJs tend to be well-suited for occupations within academia, research, management, engineering and law. Differentiating the INTJ personality type from the related INTP type is their confidence. They tend to be acutely aware of their knowledge and abilities. Thus, they develop a strong confidence in their ability and talents, making them "natural leaders." It is this confidence that makes this personality type extremely rare. According to David Keirsey it is found in no more than 1% of the population.

In forming relationships, INTJs tend to seek out others with similar character traits and ideologies. Agreement on theoretical concept is an important aspect of a relationship. By nature INTJs tend to be demanding in their expectations and approach relationships in a very rational manner. As a result, an INTJ may not always respond to a naturally occurring infatuation but wait for a mate who better fits his or her set criteria. Persons with this personality type are very stable, reliable and dedicated. Harmony in relationships and home life tends to be extremely important to the INTJ. He or she tends to withhold strong emotion and does not like to "waste" time with irrational social rituals. This, however, may cause non-INTJs to perceive him or her as distant and reserved.

INFJ

According to Keirsey,[4] INFJ Counselors are quiet, private individuals who prefer to exercise their influence behind the scenes. Intensely interested in the well-being of others, Counselors prefer one-on-one relationships to large groups. Sensitive and complex, they are adept at understanding complicated issues and driven to resolve differences in a cooperative and creative manner.

Accounting for about two percent of the population, Counselors have a vivid inner life that they may be reluctant to share with those around them. Perceptive of the emotions of others, Counselors are themselves easily hurt, though they may not reveal this except to their closest companions.

INFJs are affable people. They are generally well-liked by their peers and are thought of as close friends and confidants by most other types. It is difficult for INFJs to let their guard down, which in turn makes it difficult for them to establish close relationships with strangers and new people. According to Keirsey,[citation needed] INFJs are magnetically drawn to the ESTP and especially to the ENTP personality types because they see their complement in these types. The INFJ and ENTP might not get along as friends because of the INFJ's more pronounced sensitivity, but they may be a good match for intimate relationships because of the ENTP's willingness to be sensitive and concede their stubborn ways to the INFJ in relationships. As with other personality types, INFJs can be compatible with a number of different types.

I am an INFJ - didn't know there were any others - didnt know anyone still did this kind of testing... do you feel sort of alone in the way that you think? I take things very seriously and feel too much pain - especially watching the news - however, I have great sense of humor - kind of the absentminded professor syndrome - I have great kids and a great spouse, but never can communicate my true thoughts without being accused of being too intense,.... I sometimes dont feel comfortable here in this whole life/scenario - like I should have lived in a different time period. Do you ever hear this? Just wondering... thanks for bringing it up .

I was curious what the "Jung Typology" personality test was so I took it. I just came to realize that it was going to score me mostly on how introverted I am. That's laughable. I already knew I was.I answered honestly and my results said this:

Your Type is:
INFJ

Introverted:67

Intuitive:50

Feeling:25

Judging:11

INFJ type description by D.Keirsey

Qualitative analysis of your type formula

You are:
distinctively expressed introvert

moderately expressed intuitive personality

moderately expressed feeling personality

slightly expressed judging personality
Question authority every time. Ask them how that makes them feel. Ask them why? Ask them when you have an opinion with your opinion and question them with that! There is no being with ALL THE answers accept for God. Even still question. But trust if it's all good and loving then follow with your full heart believing. For the light will always be the light. It makes me a believer.

Actually INFJs secretely run the world, not so much anymore, but its still a bit of power block.

Powerful INFJs present universally valid answers to life and thus we are traditionally the ones that set the cultural and social tone, generally getting revenge on the world by forcing them to take our issues seriously as well :)

Consider the problem of industry and global warming, and many INFJ's finidng the conflict between their own productive side and more value based side, the trend is nigh on universal.

Other people may find the facts, and implement the ideas, but we tell them what it means to do so!

I'm INFJ
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

How can anyone trust themselves to administer one of these tests? My opinion on any of those questions might change depending on how I feel at the moment. Sounds like bullshit.
 Quoting: Ignatius J. Reilly 385864

In the land of testing, you are quite right re: self-administered tests. Is the person answering objectively, subjectively or how they hope to be. However, with the MBTI it's been shown to be pretty reliable over time, though people can move slightly on some the dimensions, but usually not as dimensions, and in general it holds over time.

I rememeber reading this thread....awhile ago but hadn't taken this test. Just took it this morning and surprise...surprise. I am also "INFJ" 78 50 12 78

Just thought it was quite interesting last time I read it and kept thinking....I wonder what I am??

I also am pretty impressed by the numbers present here versus percentage of population.

This may be my 2nd post I think....mostly just hang out and read. I like it here because....there are some people I really identify with...and yes there are quite a few Ummmmmm "weirdos" but that is what makes it kind of fun reading.

What I really enjoy is the fact that people can basically say anything here....everyone doesn't get their pants in a bunch over it. I mean if you don't agree with someone, who cares....so be it. They have every right to their own opinion.

I get the feeling that this forum is full of truth-seekers. The truth.....well...I guess ....pertaining to a variety of topics.

Anyway.....just thought I would bump this thread since I thought it was so interesting the first time I read it.

I am an INFJ. I am a social worker and I help people get jobs, that is very difficult in these turmultous times. I do feel alone as well. I feel like if only the world thought as I did and felt we should help eachother and share our own special gift we all have to contribute to the world. Imagine what a world we would live in. The only people who can share this idea with the world is the INFJ. SO if you truely are an INFJ you will continue to learn and help others be the best they can be.

ENFJ

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.
 Quoting: LS

They are also total asses to talk to. Caught up in their own self worth, they think the world revolves around them. Blinded by the glitter of their world view, they rarely see clear cut evidence as having any meaning in proving or disproving anything. Right up until the moment when they hit that tree.

INFJ here too and can totally relate to what you put - you could've been me, writing that! lol.

By the way, my husband is an ISTP.

As for the 1% thing being blown out of the water because so many here are INFJ's, I think it's probably because we see there's a bigger picture, search for answers more than most, can be ourselves on an online forum and therefore congregate in places like GLP.

The thought of the new video chat forum scares me to death! I prefer anonymity because I'm used to the majority of people treating my like a leper because of the way I think. I don't fit in to most social areas and tend to avoid them.
