Although they are happy working at jobs (such as writing) that require solitude and close attention, Counselors do quite well with individuals or groups of people, provided that the personal interactions are not superficial, and that they find some quiet, private time every now and then to recharge their batteries. Counselors are both kind and positive in their handling of others; they are great listeners and seem naturally interested in helping people with their personal problems. Not usually visible leaders, Counselors prefer to work intensely with those close to them, especially on a one-to-one basis, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes. Counselors are scarce, little more than one percent of the population, and can be hard to get to know, since they tend not to share their innermost thoughts or their powerful emotional reactions except with their loved ones. They are highly private people, with an unusually rich, complicated inner life. Friends or colleagues who have known them for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that Counselors are flighty or scattered; they value their integrity a great deal, but they have mysterious, intricately woven personalities which sometimes puzzle even them. Counselors tend to work effectively in organizations. They value staff harmony and make every effort to help an organization run smoothly and pleasantly. They understand and use human systems creatively, and are good at consulting and cooperating with others. As employees or employers, Counselors are concerned with people's feelings and are able to act as a barometer of the feelings within the organization. Blessed with vivid imaginations, Counselors are often seen as the most poetical of all the types, and in fact they use a lot of poetic imagery in their everyday language. Their great talent for language-both written and spoken-is usually directed toward communicating with people in a personalized way. Counselors are highly intuitive and can recognize another's emotions or intentions - good or evil - even before that person is aware of them. Counselors themselves can seldom tell how they came to read others' feelings so keenly. This extreme sensitivity to others could very well be the basis of the Counselor's remarkable ability to experience a whole array of psychic phenomena. Mohandas Gandhi, Sidney Poitier, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, Emily Bronte, Sir Alec Guiness, Carl Jung, Mary Baker Eddy, Queen Noor are examples of the Counselor Idealist (INFJ). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 629459...most people to me seem fickle...they let their emotions run their lives and never have the ability to think straight. it's like they lack the ability to think critically for themselves...to see problems which present the solution. i believe this wholeheartedly is only prevalent in 1%, as like i said, i have yet to meet anyone face to face who rationalizes as i do. you just described it pretty well. ruthless questioning and lack of (undeserved) respect for authority, highly developed critical thinking skills, easily bored, detachment from the "mundane" day-to-day bullshit that seems to permeate everyone and everything that holds no real importance. |

I do not feel that it is all about themselves (INFJ) How can it be about that when all we want is things to be better. Is that such a bad vision to have? I'm proud of the way I view the world. Do you honestly think everything is happy and wonderful right now. Imagine what it would be like if people helped others. That is all I was saying. But unfourtunately so much of the world have that cynical view of the world thinking ultimatly everyone is out only for themselves in some selfish god-like complex. Not everyone thinks that way either. Just take it at face value and embrace kindness. Not everybody has a selfish motive. |
UndeniablyMe User ID: 711146 United States 06/25/2009 12:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am an INFJ as well. I am always astounded when I meet another INFJ because I feel this automatic connection. Those close to me who are not INFJs always think I am nuts because I am always talking about how we can better the world. Does anyone find themselves to be moody oftentimes? I can go from being on cloud nine to being let down pretty quickly...and no, it's not bi-polar disorder haha. It would be interesting to learn however, which personality types are suseptible to different kinds of mental disorders. :) |

On every single forum I've been to, many, where this topic comes up, the vast majority of the posters state they are INFJ. This has happened over the years too many times and too many people, I've come to believe that the INFJ personality is not rare at all. |
