Yeah, I really liked Bill Clinton and his administration. The 90's were a very good bygone era. So sad... Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA Some say the end is near. Yes, for a time in 1998 gas prices were the LOWEST EVER as per inflation/dollar average. The national average was $1.16 a gallon. You also cleverly pick King, TX not exactly a rich area right? Then your current pick is proibably taken in a big metro city today. Hardly a fair comparison. Go back as far as 1990, and you see national averages as HIGH AS $2.00 a Gallon. Your pictures don't look so stunning now do they. |

Think of all the money we are spending in the Middle East right now, something like $12 billion a month....How much of that is on gas? I would think quite a bit, you know where that money is going, to all the middle eastern governments that are supporting the same people we are fighting, ironic huh? |

How old are some of you people?!?!?!?! It definatly was that low in parts of the US in 1998, I remember it, and I'm 34! Read the links below, and remember, that's AVERAGE prices. It got far ower in otherplaces in the US. [link to www.cnn.com] Analyst: Pump prices plunge to historic lows March 8, 1998 Web posted at: 9:50 p.m. EST (0250 GMT) LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Gas prices in the United States were at their lowest inflation-adjusted level in recorded history in a March 6 survey, the publisher of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday. The March 6 edition of the twice-monthly survey of 10,000 service stations found the national average for all grades of gasoline at full service and self-service stations stood at $1.0924, survey publisher Trilby Lundberg said. The national average for the most popular grade, self-service unleaded regular, stood at $1.038, Lundberg said. She said it was a decline of nearly 3 cents in the two-week period from the last survey, part of a continuing decline that has amounted to more than 23 cents since September. The main reasons for the price drop are a continuing sag in crude oil prices and a price war among refiners and distributors, Lundberg said. The Lundberg Survey calculated prices in 1998 dollars, adjusting other annual figures for inflation by using the Consumer Price Index, to arrive at the conclusion that gas prices are the lowest at any time since figures were kept in 1920. ........and then this one...... [link to money.cnn.com] Gas price at record low December 20, 1998: 7:31 p.m. ET Adjusted for inflation, prices are lowest ever, according to Lundberg survey LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Gas prices continued to fall in mid-December, showing no reaction to the air attacks against Iraq - an example of just how big the oil glut is, according to the publisher of a national gas survey. Trilby Lundberg, publisher of the bi-weekly Lundberg Survey of 10,000 gas stations nationwide, reported in its Dec. 18 survey that, taking inflation into account, gas prices had fallen to the lowest in history. The weighted average price for all grades of self and full service gasoline fell to just under $1.04 ($1.0355) per gallon, a decline of 1.12 cents per gallon over the past two weeks. The weighted average price for self service regular fell to 97.54 cents per gallon, a decline of 1.14 cents per gallon. The cheapest average price for gasoline was Tulsa, Okla., at 75.76 cents per gallon. The most expensive average price for gasoline remained Honolulu, Hawaii, at $1.51 per gallon. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....The cheapest average price for gasoline was Tulsa, Okla., at 75.76 cents per gallon. And this was the lowest recored price.....I remember some stations charging ,69 cents a gallon here in Missouri back then competeing with the larger gas stations. Do alittle research next time if you can't remember, or don't know. |
