I find the story intersting, and compelling but not necessarily real. That said - the He/She comment may not mean what people are making it out to mean. What if Obama or McCain do take the Presidency. And they have a running mate who is female? And that President happens to not complete his term for some reason? And the VP becomes the President? Just sayin.....

I dont understand why people not only believe these things but almost want the events to happen to feel justified in the stance they took.

Some people should consider discarding their emotional investment in particular outcomes and instead take a position of observation. This way not only will there be learning and understanding through comparing outcomes with 'predictions' but there would be no disappointment associated with the result due to emotional investment.
