A German retiree is taking a hospital to court after she went in for a leg operation and got a new anus instead, the Daily Telegraph is reporting.
The woman woke up to find she had been mixed up with another patient suffering from incontinence who was to have surgery on her sphincter.
The clinic in Hochfranken, Bavaria, has since suspended the surgical team.
Now the woman is planning to sue the hospital. She still needs the leg operation and is searching for another hospital to do it. |

It's a good thing these blunders don't happen anywhere else. Esp the poor in America because they wouldn't get in the hospital in the first place.

to be fair she paid nothing, will get a new operation for nothing and will now collect perhaps 250k euros in damages, hell they could give me a new anus for 250 grand |

i like socialized medicine.. way better than dealing with insurance.. and then getting your procedure denied (to save them money) and then dying.
OR going bankrupt for a knee surgery. |

Socialized medicine has nothing to do with medical incompetence. This happens here in the US with disturbing regularity to people with 'insurance'. Wrong lung/leg/breast/arm/kidney removed or 'extras' left in during surgery. There are going to be problems with any system. Unfortunately here in the US with the highest cost care in the world and 30-60th in terms of quality the best our 'elected' can come up with to resolve the issue of the 'uninsured' is to throw more money at the problem and make insurance mandatory. That is far easier than actually fixing a system that is badly broken. Whenever the debate about 'socialized' medicine comes up people ALWAYS cite the UK or Canada and long waits for service. The same thing would happen in the USA. Can you understand why? IMMIGRATION. And no I do not mean in a bad way. There are dozens of countries with healthcare quality FAR superior to that in the US that are socialized and efficient. And people in these countries are not restricted to 'public/social' medicine. You can always opt for private insurance/care.
Try googling the drug 'KETEK' and see what comes up. Falsified tests, knowingly approved by the FDA and people dying of liver failure within days. Then you have Lipitor, Vioxx, etc. who have made BILLIONS for big pharma but only after data was falsified/erased. Or the recent Heparin fiasco where the FDA inspected the WRONG plant in China. Now aren't we paying the highest drug prices in the world to guarranty the quality of our drugs and thats why we cannot import them from Canada? Yet the VAST majority of our drugs are in fact made in foreign countries to begin with. The lies just don't add up. 75% of doctors would refuse chemotherapy because they KNOW it is insane and costs WAY too much with WAY too low success rates. The VAST majority of todays 'doctors' are really just pharmacuetical reps who have been trained to prescribe the latest and most expensive treatment/drug regardless. |

The problem with non-socialised medicine is that there is the possibility that unnecessary work is done and unnecessary drugs are prescribed, this is not in the best interests of the patient. |

There are incompitant doctors everywhere, being part of a socialized medicine environment or private. You can't blame quality of care on that issue alone. There are doctors in the USA who have left surgical instruments inside people after surgery. There are also mistakes make like this one in USA hospitals all the time, that is what they get malpractice insurance for. I personally think that a socialized medicine system would be a good thing to have to improve the quality of health in the USA. At least you won't have people not going to the doctors and dying in their beds and in the streets because they can't afford the medical insurance needed to get decent health care in this country. |

The exact same shit happens no matter 'socialized' medecine or not. In fact there are no 'bad' doctors, they just get moved state to state like pedophile priests. Besides you should be thankful that you are charged the highest medical costs in the world while having access and even your right to sue incompetent fucks like the above surgeon taken from you. |
