Are cops tasering everyone because they are lazy or not trained? | |
ridgerunner User ID: 220689 United States 03/21/2008 01:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Then look at the physical condition of a lot of service personnel these days...if they taze, they don't have to chase, if they taze, they don't have to struggle, or exert themselves....A lot of them are overweight, and this is one place where overweight, should not be an option...mostly for THEIR own benefit AND safety...and imo only...overweight service personnel indicates lack of self discipline and control, from those who are expected to have the most of both..it also shows disrespect for their uniform and their department's status in the community..how would we expect those who are out of control of their personal lives, to be in control when it comes to using what can become deadly force?????rr |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 284011 United States 03/21/2008 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Perhaps you would rather the police just shoot or beat down a wild person who has gone crazy and just won't stop? Quoting: anonanonStop. Go back. Read original post. I'm not saying if a hulking mass of a man that you cannot handle is coming toward you to do you physical harm that you should not use something. (Even in that situation I would hope that you would be trained to do that but from previous posts, they are not.) I am referring to people a man COULD handle, ie: woman, elderly person in wheel chair, small teenage boy where it is obviously a case of them not wanting to break a nail. So, I would rather they are trained and exercise judgement. |

Quoting: anonanonWere you responding to what I posted? WOW...IF so...I am trying to figure out how you got that impression from what I wrote...the original poster asked if cops were tazering everyone because they are lazy or not trained...I responded with what I thought the reason was...I said nothing about wanting police to just shoot or beat down anyone...I was trying to convey that convenience of action(no necessity for physical contact iow), physical condition of police themselves, and lack of personal judgment were the main causes...take from that, what you will...it's my opinion only...rr |

ridgerunner User ID: 220689 United States 03/21/2008 09:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 284011 OP no, I am not a cop, but I have gone back and read what the former policeman said....it seems we do agree..never having been a cop, I find that interesting... I have a friend who retired after 25 yrs on a big city police force....She cannot talk about her experiences and what she witnessed taking place on that police force w/o suffering severe anxiety(apparently no one is worse than a bad cop, because they know all the ins and outs)...she also said, wages/benefits haven't kept pace for police, so a lot of them don't feel they want to risk their lives, considering that they all know physically taking down a suspect, can cause very serious injury to anyone involved... I still say, it's mainly a judgment call, and I can't see myself, personally tazing someone in a wheelchair, a child, a woman, a senior citizen(I do believe it's gotten out of hand)...but how about if I felt personally threatened by any of the aforementioned?? UNLESS and UNTIL we find ourselves in the same situation..it's easy to say what we would or wouldn't do, but until you walk a mile in their shoes...you simply don't know...rr |
