I don't think we have really lost our identity so much as we have lost pride in our heritage. If we express any pride in our heritage we are immediately labeled racist and reminded that white Europeans have been the dominate force behind all the evils of war and inhumanity to others on this planet. We then sink into the pits of guilt and shame because we have been conditioned to believe this way. We are reminded of our propensity toward racism every February when we celebrate black history for example.
