Well, first thing that comes to mind is desk work obviously. - Lots of opportunities right now in the corporate planning field... ie; efficiency experts.... people that can go into a business, look at all their operations and suggest ways to do the same job with less costs (less staff, strategies to lower the average compensation of employees, SR&ED claims, cheaper supplies etc).

Good thing is pretty much anyone with a bit of common sense and time can do this type of work. Just need to have some good analytical skills and imagination.

An employee hired to do this may make $50-80k per year. A consultant or consulting firm (if he starts his own) usually charge companies tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to do this over a 3 month time period.

Depends on what his/her skills are. I have a bad back and have taught at the local community college. I can also program, but you need degrees and certification for that. And experience. Programming pays but can be frustrating at times.

There's management which is high paying but you need to have degrees and experience and be able to manage people. Tax accounting is also an option, again you need certification and education. Counseling can pay ... same old song, though "degrees and certificaton".

Look over the "help wanted" ads on various sites and see what jobs are open that your friend can do.

I would guess that if a company knew he had a bad back and required lots of medical treatment then they wouldn't touch him. Despite claims that companies do not descriminate we all know they do.

I think this guy might have to drop the "high paying" part and look for anything he can get. Lots of people have been laid off and are looking for jobs so companies can easily pick and choose who they want.

Unless the guy has computer skills that only a few can do. If that were the case they would be coming to him.
