Hundreds of Homeless Evicted From SoCal Tent City

ONTARIO, Calif. — Police and city workers are cleaning up a homeless encampment that grew too big to manage.

The tent city near Ontario International Airport can hold about 150 homeless but in recent months has outgrown the size of property, making sanitation and safety major hazards.

People from outside of Ontario are being evicted. Those who can prove they are from the city will be able to move back after the land is graded and a gate and portable toilets are installed.

In the meantime, occupants of the encampment are staying in a nearby vacant city lot. Many outsiders are also camped out now in that lot.

A small group of protesters in the original tent city say they won't leave but police spokesman Jeff Higby says they will wait them out.
