Help! Advice about USPS Priority Mail -Lost in Mail
Please some advice I am getting the run around big time.

I have never ever had a problem with the post office.

Mailed something two day priority mail with delivery confirmation 3/18. I thought the delivery confirmation was the transaction number on my receipt.

Apparently the machine malfunctioned and it was supposed to spit out a separate delivery confirmation sticker with a "special" number on it. The machine did not and I am pretty picky about stuff like this.

I found this out the first time I went back to the post office to find out which number was the delivery confirmation number on my receipt.

I called the company it was supposed to go to and they sign for everything regardless if there is a delivery confirmation. They don't have it.

The second time I went back the clerk gave me a phone number and I actually talked with someone and someone is suppose to call me back but is there anything else I can do about it? p.s. the first clerk blew me off and said I had to call back.

Anyone have anything like this happen before and what did you do?

Is there anything else to do?

I own a shippinc company. It takes upwards of 6 months to get a claim through on an insured package. I hate them.

No that is part of the problem.

I used the automated machine in the lobby and paid for delivery confirmation but the machine did not spit out a green ticket that I didn't know I should have gotten.

I have my receipt that says I paid for delivery confirmation and a transaction number, I thought this was the confirmation. Never used delivery confirmation before.

Thanks for replying.

Re: Help! Advice about USPS Priority Mail -Lost in Mail
Delivery confirmation number is on the sticker they put on your package. They do not necessarily have to give you a 'copy' of the number, especially if you did not fill out the little form requesting it. If i recall it's a $5 fee. There are forms to fill out to go with the delivery confirmation, but if you did not fill out that form, there is little they can do. Hopefully this was not a monetary transaction, which if it was, you are best to have it insured, certified mail, return receipt requested, along with addressee only to sign - it will be fee upon fee on top of the weight of the package, and whether it goes first class, or media mail, but you have a good record of your request to ship the parcel. I've have many a package ripped to shreds by USPS. When the shredded pieces arrived saran wrapped with postal apology,i knew someone wanted to know what i was receiving and opened it. The products were missing and so i contacted the retailer and they were nice enough to send a duplicate shipment. Needless to say the USPS cannot be trusted, they lie and steal, especially anything they may benefit from. Do not send CASH!!

I am naive and have never had a problem with mail.

I feel pretty much like I am screwed after my two trips back to the post office and several phone calls to some 800 number.

Post Office is really off lately. I mailed an item Registered with Return Receipt, on 12 March. Here it is the 27th and the Online Tracking "Service" sez it got to St. Louis on the 13th. And that's it. My Post Master is trying to track it down. Got as far as Chicago the 14th. That's all they know.

Re: Help! Advice about USPS Priority Mail -Lost in Mail
I wouldn't call them on the phone. I'd go to the post office and see a clerk in person. When I've had Priority Mail packages go missing, you can bring in your receipt, the white one, and they do have a way of tracking it, just at what points it was scanned, even if you don't have delivery confirmation or insurance. When I've done that, they usually have to go get a supervisor, because not all the clerks have access to the computer that can track it, but it can be tracked, even if no special services were purchased.

it may show up in a few months..... don't use them, UPS is much more relaible and trustworthy. Or other ones.... I do not know I do not mail so much these days. USPS almost cost me a job, due to loosing my priority mail, which came 45 days later... fortunatly sending it through email saved the day for me.

FWIW, Priority Mail isn't always delivered in the 2-3 day time frame that they estimate. It's been known to take 2 weeks or more, in some cases.

Technically it should've been delivered by now, but it's too soon to consider it truly lost.

Hope it turns up. hf

This is pure bullshit. There are catwalks and cameras everywhere with postal inspectors watching and they will fire you in a New York minute if they catch you stealing from the mail.

I'll give you the heads up on Priority. IF you put the address and the return address on the package, and you cover it with clear tape so it won't fall off or get fucked up, it WILL get there or come back to you in a reasonable amount of time. BE SURE you put the CORRECT address on.
BE SURE that you secure the package so your stuff won't fall out. Don't trust the sticky stuff on the package to do the job. USE MORE TAPE.
Priority mail is a great way to mail, but you have to take care of business in the way you prepare it.

The number of American retards that don't know the state abbreviation is unbelievable. IF you aren't sure of the state abbreviation, look it up, don't guess. IF you don't put the zip code on, then you are asking for a major delay. Don't expect the clerk to know what the zip code in Maine is. It will go to a clerk that has about a month's worth of work to do before he can get to your package.

Packages that are properly prepared don't get ripped to pieces on a frequent basis. If you mail a transmission or an alternator in a cardboard box that diapers came in, guess what? It's going to get ripped to pieces. If you put something in an envelop like coins or a watch or candy, then yes, it is going to get ripped to pieces.
Use your heads. Don't blame the Post Office for your mistakes.

Try using Click and Ship, works well. Numbers match and 2-3 days delivery is about right. Prepayment thru credit card account is needed but worth it.

Re: Help! Advice about USPS Priority Mail -Lost in Mail
BTW I returned the priority sized box, regular box with priority stickers from the company that sent it to me with their preprinted return label. I also put clear packing tape over that.

I am pretty anal when it comes to stuff like this and have all my paperwork in order so to speak.

I also have a ex sister in law that has worked for the usps for over 20 years. I might be giving her a call too. She makes great money and has lots of vacation but she says it is like being in the service and she hates it.

Thanks to all sounds like I am not alone in this mess.

Re: Help! Advice about USPS Priority Mail -Lost in Mail
I just had an IPhone stolen from the US Postal Service. I received the box with generic cards that were shrink wrapped that weighed about the same as the Iphone. The box had a label on it stating that they aphorize for the damaged mail, but had to re-wrap the package. What a joke. I am going to follow this as far as I can, because someone needs to go to jail for tampering with the mail. Use UPS….don’t send anything of value through the good ole United States Postal Service.

I have two packages lost and can find no way to contact the post office it was sent from. They have a wrong or bad number on their website.

Should have insured them so i could get my items replaced. One of the packages is a month out and the other close to three weeks out.

Where do you even call to get some help??
