Word on the Road -- Shutdown will be longer.

If it's anything less than a crippling strike it'll be 100% ineffective.

This needs to bring down systems, and bring civilization on the fucking brink.

Take a page from the Argentineans. And we know they don't take shit from nobody.

But I suspect the truckers won't have the backbone to pull this one off.
 Quoting: LouisWinthorpeIII

Wrong peckerwood. All the truckers have to shut down are the trucks that DELIVER the fuel to the truck stops. No diesel, no trucks go anywhere.

Well you boys go ahead and STRIKE.

But in the end - it will hurt no one but the little guys. (that's the rest of us)

Really, what do you hope to accomplish??

Do you really think you will force big oil to reduce your diesel prices?

Won't happen.

At best, you will just get yet another government handout to help pay your fuel costs.

Just what this country needs - more handouts.

Re: TRUCKER STRIKE April 1ST 2008Quote

Hell yea, my CDL Brothers and Sisters. $4.00 Dollar a gallon fuel is not only crazy but unaffordable. I remember when I started driving a truck, Fuel was $.89 per Gallon (1996). I as a person and fellow TRUCK DRIVER (I’m Proud to be)hereby supports a three (3) week shutdown. I’m a member of the Teamsters AFL-CIO L.U. 41, and this is the main subject for all of us owner-operators and Large Carriers. A (3) week shut down should bring these SKY HIGH F*cking Fuel Prices back down. We are all consumers, yet we have to deliver these products to dealerships, stores, building-sites, and etc. ENOUGH is ENOUGH,these F*cking trade agreements (NAFTA,CAFTA,INDIA,CHINA,TAIWAN,RUSSIAN,and SAFTA) are the cause and effects of all of the problems facing United States problems.

I have the BACKBONE to shutem-down. I own 87 trucks w/trailers. I'm the owner of these trucks, and when I say SHUT'EM-DOWN I mean it.... Or, I can resovle the problem by the magic bullets in my 30ot6 to the engine blocks of these trucks. I do have Insurance if you know what I mean.

Will not happen. How many times have we heard over the years that the truckers were shutting down due to fuel prices? 10 maybe 12 diffrent times. How many times did it actually happen? NONE ! Big corp is not going to shut their trucks down on april 1st. Independants might try but there is not enough of them left to do much harm.

Re: TRUCKER STRIKE April 1ST 2008Quote

hello we are from Kingston tn and we support the independent truck drivers, that can not drive their trucks and feed their families. the oil companies are greedy.because there is no reason for the high prices of fuel. NOW its raping our truckers at the fuel pumps. Maybe this will get the attention of our president that loves big OIL and our Congress that not one of them was a truck driver. The only one that was from a truck family is Mr. Jim Trafficant and they sent him to prison. THE TIME IS NOW SHUT THEM BIG TRUCKS DOWN APRIL 1, 2008
 Quoting: christopher FENNER 402822

Really? The devaluation of the Dollar....Increased oil consumption by China and tensions in the middle-east all account for the rising cost of fuel. The dollar has lost about 50% of it's value since 2001.

The Independent truckers will lose their jobs and the rest of our jobs will follow...and their is nothing we can do about it.

The truckers are really doing this. i talked to one at work the other day. he told me get water and food, because they know they can bankrupt Florida in literally two days. They are going to do it. They can't afford the gas anymore.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 384461

Somebody needs to keep the companies that do pay for there gas off the roads too . I hope they keep those on lock down too , I agree with the strike and hope the fuel companies suffer a huge loss and realize we can make a change for what we believe in . Thank you kindly for letting me talk . I hope this makes a huge difference .

Wrong again, your 1 day event will *NOT* be noticed.

Enjoy doing *nothing* and talking a lot about it.

Christ the writers have more backbone than you "truckers". Hell even the FRENCH shut down FRANCE when they didn't like their working hours.

Fuck you guys suck ass.

I'll be laughing at every truck I see on the 2nd on the road.

This is not a ONE Day STRIKE. It is the 1st-5th, I am a broker for freight and I know both ends of the trucking industry. They will Strike. I just wish they would all go to DC. According to a post on GetLoaded.com, DC has called for extra State Troopers in the DC area. They want to shutdown the beltway. And I have been inside the truck, and it is unbelievable the stupid ass things 4 WHEELERS do on the Freeways. For those who don't know what a 4 WHEELER IS, it is the people who drive cars. Thank God I wasn't the driver because I would have run over some of them.

You have any freight moving tomorrow? Getting any calls? I know I am. All of my freight is covered for tomorrow. There have been over a dozen strikes in the past 10 years or so. No one ever notices. This one is getting more attention, but there are so many drivers that either won't participate or know nothing of a strike. My trucks will be running tomorrow, and the choice is left up to my drivers. There will always be a truck to run because when the trucks get scarce the rates go up, and money talks. When the rates go up, they compensate by passing it on to everyone in the long run, including the truck drivers. I wish it would make a difference, but it won't.

I think the problem for the truckers is that an effective wedge between big business and small business has been achieved in this industry. The Truckers Union is now little more then a big business rubber stamp and the small independents don't have enough clout to be felt in a short strike.
The mixture of slow down and work stoppage is just confusing and frustrating, and those who do strike will end up feeling deserted by their fellow truckers who didn't, Its to bad once upon a time the truckers showed the country how to unite for change now I am afraid they are no longer capable of uniting.

I am well aware of the "illegals" situation. There are legal government documents to be found, stating why the illegals are being brought in by the truckloads. The money bag is being expanded to fit the need. You know, allow them to have all these benefits.
Do a search, it will shock the chit out of you to realize this is a delieberate movement!

I went ahead and filled up and bought a weeks food, just in case.

Kinda want to see them pull it off for the week - Need a big fix of DOOM.
