Do Scottish Men Like American Women?

I'm a black American woman born and raised but I've always liked  tall, strong North-European type men; especially the red-haired fair-skinned ones.
I've never been to another county. I'm quite the exception because black American women here typically don't like American whites...but are more lenient towards foreigners. Even I admit I like European-born men better. Maybe it's the accent thing. Maybe it's because they don't have the "I am God" ego, oh I don't know. I don't mean to generalize. I can only speak for myself.
Someone said that highland scott dislike blacks but another person said that when some Scotts come to America the fall in love with black women so I'm kinda confused.I'm African and where is it that you live ;)

*shrugs* i don't know if they do or not, i've never met one in person, but i did have a friend on AOL once and he lives in the Highlands. He was a lot of fun to talk to. If he was a heavy drinker, then he must have been able to handle it because he had a great job and as much time as we spent talking, it was obvious to me that he was well educated and .um..."civilized".
If was always very nice so i can't imagine that they all hate us.
but, i live in the US and he is in Scotland. Besides, with my deep southern accent and His apparent accent, i doubt we could have carried on a conversation without a translator anyway.
As for drunks who are violent, assholes and never bath? We have that HERE in the US!
We also have some really great American men that can make a girl melt with their ways ...
and the kilt? yeah, i think it's sexy as hell, but then so is a guy wearing nothing but a towel wrapped around his hips no matter what nationality.. |

This may be a really long reply, but I feel the need to get up on my soapbox here:
You really think you can spot a American a mile a away?
You really believe Americans are treated with derision in Scotland?
And are American really women obese, desperate, obnoxious, loudmouthed and unfeminine?
Have I stumbled back into the ridiculous banter of the 7th grade classroom here??
I am an American woman and while staying in Glasgow for about a year, I had a great time. I'll admit that I was initially a little intimidated by the whole gloomy industrial thing but there was a level of chivalry and hospitality shown to me there that I have not seen in the U.S.
While at the University of Glasgow one day, a cute young thing walked up to me and began speaking to me in Italian! When I shot him a puzzled look and greeted him in American English, he had a look of surprise on his face (I am actually full-blooded Italian by the way). He mistook me for an Italian tourist!
Our courtship lasted a couple of years and survived the long distances between us, his immigration difficulties, my difficulties understanding his dialect, etc. The glue that kept us together, however, was the simple fact that a man and a woman with similar values/attitudes/life experiences/interests, combined with a mutual physical attraction, happened to stumble across each other and hit it off. (I did not sleep with him until about 3 months in, for all of you who believe in the 'desperate American woman' myth).
This can happen between citizens of any country within the Western world (and probably even in Eastern cultures, regardless of what religion/social custom prevents cross-cultural hook-ups).
By the way I am a slim, attractive, introverted computer programmer who would rather not attract attention, yet I will get loud with it if I feel the need to be assertive and enforce boundaries (maybe it is this exaggerated stereotype of the American woman that intimidated foreign men call 'obnoxious and loudmouthed?). Poof! There goes your theory of the fat,stupid,loud American woman.
The things to keep in mind if you are dating a Scottish man (from my own experience): He is Scottish, not English or British. And if there is any discussion of opposing football teams/religion/sectarian or political issues, stay out of it, especially if you do not know enough about the subject to make a strong argument.
I wish people would grow up and stop getting hung up on stereotypes. |
