Well being a teenager in Scotland I can say that the stereotypes are kind of true. I go about with 'neds' and they honestly cant work out that there is more to life than a 10 pack of cigarettes and 10 bottles of carlsberg :/

I have to agree with the statement that American women are selfish and too independent...also they tend to be cheaters, which causes the rest of us to be lumped with the majority and looked upon as low-class hoes...the reality is, there are a few good, classy American women who absolutely do not believe in cheating, just wading through the sea of American men and finding that they tend to be formed from the same self-centered mold as most American women. I have yet to find a decent American man...though I'd say there are still quite a few in the South, like Texas, that qualify as "real men". ;) But honestly, most of the good ones in this country are already spoken for. So I have decided I need to look abroad for a decent man, who is both a gentleman, yet macho and masculine, and knows how to properly handle a lady in the sack. Scotland sounds like a good place to start since I am planning a trip there next year.

Oh my gosh.... this is the funniest thing I have ever heard in my life!! My husband is Irish and drinks everyday like it's his last day on earth. His motto is "If I'm still standing, I ain't drunk!" LOL
And don't feel bad, we've been married for 9 years and the only anniversary present I have ever gotten was a cheap ass jewerly box from walmart!! He is often so drunk he starts calling his own name, and when no one answers, well his voice only gets louder!!! I have never met anyone who wanted to talk to themself soooo badly! LOL
As much of a habitual drinker as he is, I can't ever bad mad at him because everyday I am on the ground lasughing my arse off!!! Drunk or no, he is sooo stinken funny!!

I have to say I am apalled that someone would use emphatic shouty capitals and spell "despise" wrong. One would think that if you are going to make a point in bold, as it were, you would do well to proofread, dearie. ;)

It's crazy how many different people are stating how selfish and arrogant American women are. It's impossible to group an entire nation of women together as one freakin' brand! Just as you can't group an entire nation of Scottish men together on whether they all like American women or not. Good grief! We all want what we don't have, right?

well first of all not scottish men are drunks and not all
american women want to get married. I am looking for compaionship,friendship not marriage! some of my family memebers are scottish but just happen to live in the US.

Honestly I don't think it should matter. If you meet someone and you like them then that is it, end of story. It is stupid to try to generalize a whole population based on a couple people's opinions.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking. Sure we are the castoffs that no one ever wanted to deal with back in the really really olden days, don't forget that alot of us have scots background because YOU were sent here just like the english australians, and all the other castoffs no one wanted., but we are more tolerant then any other race seems to me since we have such a broad mix here. And from what I'm reading there is only one Scotsman here that that likes American women. So far this is casting Scotsmen as closeminded pigs that either wont touch us unless we are easy or smelling like haggis, or unless they don't care what they are getting. If this makes me opinionated and then so be it, most of those men won't be able to understand it then anyways. Its a wonder they can type or *gasp* read. There is a certain romance associated with Scots men I will agree, and I was one that was certainly interested in meeting or even being in contact with. But I think I will stick with all the pigheaded, abusive, women hating men that are here in the states.

I so agree with this post. At some point I would love to live in scotland and happened to be looking at some information when I ran across this forum, but was so turned off by most of the comments made on this site...scots and american alike. Thanks for so saying it so emphatically that people are just people and don't judge until you have met someone and judged them on their own merits.

I can only speak for myself but I'd say they do! I'm an American female & I've been seeing a Scottish male who lives in England for over a year now. We both have traveled back and forth & plan too move in together at some point.. I have to admit I’m not a fan of long distance relationships.. nor would I ever te;; anyone e;se to do it.. & to be honest I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t do it again.. However, the guy I'm with... Is well worth the cost of travel! So, I say Scottish men do like American women.. Well, at least this American one..

Don't know about Scottish men as I have never met one. But most American women love the Scottish and Irish men..

Read the first page and felt i should read no further.
I KNOW the majority of my DECENT Scottish brethren would have an american women BUT also any other nationality providing that the partner was also a DECENT human being.

Programs like the stuff you find on MTV paints a negative picture off Ladies from the US (Greedy/Moneygrabbing and the like) but I know for a fact we (the majority not all) look further than looks and colour off skin OH and look beyond the protestant/catholic thing which is HUGE here but is slowly fading away.

Just remember though, we don't take no pish from anyone (wherever we are) so you would most likely need too put up with some embarrassment an possibly arrests LOL

I can't speak for all of the American women but we're not all like the women on shows ( like MTV ). We can get a little crazy and know how to have a good olde time. I for one long to go to Scotland and if I meet a nice Scot while I'm there well now that's a bonus.

Oh, we, like the rest off the world know that you are all not like that, every country has both types off people. Also, come too Scotland and you will be welcomed with open arms. It may be a culture shock but you would learn to realize bigger isnt always better and most things you find in the states you get here. Also, you will get a good ole taste off our other national drink 'Irn Bru' I know its available in some states in some area's but I think Coca Cola has seen to it that Irn Bru doesn't get licensed over your side since Scotland is the only country where Coke aint the number one soft drink.

PS: My father has traveled the world and said he met an ignorant American once that once told him 'We don't need too holiday anywhere outside our borders as we have it all here'. I realize that everyone isnt like that but that seemed to be the typical view point this particular American wanted too paint off you guys.

Ok so most of us American women do read too many romance novels. We are definately infatuated. Although there are those kilts! Kilts with the accent oh so sexy! It makes US women swoon! Lol

I think it's just like any other relationship, if there is a spark there neither party will probably care where the other came from.

I think the real problem would be in the US, where to meet a Scotsman? :-)

I knew a Scotsman once and unfortunately I was with my now ex boyfriend. He was very sweet, and a gentleman. Even asked me out, but I am not a cheater so I turned him down. By the time I broke up with my ex he had a girlfriend so I didn't contact him.

Now I do have to say he loved the fact that there was always Irn Bru in my fridge and that I love Yorkie bars. Yes even though I'm a girl!
