Anonymous Coward User ID: 396816 United Kingdom 03/31/2008 01:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I dont think so. The article refers to the monthly inflation, while your 20% are for the whole year (2007 I guess). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 404515The artical starts with these words A European statistical agency says the yearly inflation in the 15-nation eurozone reached a new record high of 3.5 percent in March. btw pwned |

Shevar User ID: 361147 Netherlands 03/31/2008 01:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The article is wrong Quoting: Anonymous Coward 396816Inflation in Europe is running at around 20%,maybe more it will get worse as well I don't know where you live but 20% is probably grossly overestimated (that being said the 1.8% the dutch government used over the January to January number isn't fair either). Btw that number used in the OP is the price index from march 2007 compared to the price index of march 2008. The difference between those 2 is called inflation. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 404515 Germany 03/31/2008 01:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | its a load of bollox anyway if you ask me Quoting: Anonymous Coward 396816Agreed. Its like the unemployment numbers. Fake, fake, fake. To measure inflation for the little man, its good enough to compare prices of butter, bread and milk for the last years. Unfortunately, most people give a fuck, until they are no more able to feed themselves and their loved ones. |

But since two month ago price of Bread, rice, flour, and milk have gone up as much as 35% (in the case of Rice). Things are not looking good. UK government claims a low inflation but that is not true at all. So far we have seen the price of bread rise by a penny or two for the last 8 weeks. Bread has gone up by 20%, cheese, milk and even meat has gone up. By my calculation everything has gone up by average of 20%. So how does inflation stand at 2%??? 20% is the minimum within the last six month (and not a whole year). believe me. I have to buy and budget for many people and I help to organise a lot of people who have difficulty in saving money. I work for the council in UK and my job is to teach some families how to spend and how to save. I keep exact tab on the price of all supermarkets and we know exactly how much they have gone up. Government figures are totally wrong and there is no end at the moment with this price increse. |

Government figures are totally wrong and there is no end at the moment with this price increse. The government numbers don't purely indicate the prices of food and energy prices. Again I will say I'm skeptical about the 2 or 3% over a whole year. And I really would like to see a food price index besides an index that lists what the government says on average is bought by a person (I'm pretty sure there are to many appliances costs on for example). |
