Tessa User ID: 383010 United States 04/02/2008 01:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got 34 days...but that's because we haven't really bought extra food yet. Everytime we shop I try to pick up something, but we live paycheck to paycheck...so the goings are slow. But at least they're going... Duncan Kunz User ID: 332456 United States 04/02/2008 01:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 457 days Quoting: Nothing Is TrueAre you calculating water a well as food usage? Figuring a gallon per day of water minimum per person (that would be drinking and cooking, not washing!), and assuming that you're by yourself, your 457 gallons would work out to about 61 cubic feet of water, which would fill up almost three queen-size waterbed mattresses, which seems to be the water-saving SHTF container of choice. A queen-size mattress (6'6" X 5' X 10") will hold about 26 cubic feet, or about 195 gallons, of water Where's the EVIDENCE, Jim? |

Everything is permitted.. |
Duncan Kunz User ID: 332456 United States 04/02/2008 01:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How did you know that?!!! Have you been peeping? Quoting: Nothing Is TrueLOL! Actually, when I had my own Y2K site lo these many years past, we (there were six of us working together on preps) did some loong-range testing of different waterbed mattresses, since a lot of folks were worried about the poly-vinyl chloride leaching into the water (it doesn't -- at least not enough tomake you sick, although you'd want a filter to remove the taste). ( btw I need far less than a gallon a day!) Quoting: Nothing Is TrueWell, it depends. If you are not doing any cooking or using re-constituted foods (like instant whole milk, dried vegetables, grains, etc.) You can get by on about half that -- assuming you don't do any hard work, or that you don't use any of the water to flush the toilet LOL! Where's the EVIDENCE, Jim? |

If you're trapped in your home, you're certainly not going to be able to get out to a putative stream or lake to get your "unlimited supply of fresh water". If you're trapped in your home by any disaster-scenario I can think of, the water-delivery infrastructure will be compromised, either through not being able to operate or contamination. You might as well be giving a quiz which says "assume that you can turn air into water with a magic wand"! If anyone here's serious about survival -- in your home or anywhere else -- then "factoring in" anything sounds pretty dangerous to me. Where's the EVIDENCE, Jim? |

Not a problem for me, I live in an area which seems to have a lot of ground water. Even in the summer months I get a few gallons of water a day pumped out of my basement by the sump pump. I bought a filter just in case I would have to use it. |
