Couple Sues Google Over "Street View"
Pittsburgh pair claims privacy invaded by posting of home
APRIL 4--A Pittsburgh couple is suing Google for invasion of privacy, claiming that the web giant's popular "Street View" mapping feature has made a photo of their home available to online searchers. Aaron and Christine Boring accuse Google of an "intentional and/or grossly reckless invasion" of their seclusion and privacy since they live on a street that is "clearly marked with a 'Private Road' sign," according to a lawsuit the couple filed this week in Allegheny County's Court of Common Pleas. A copy of the April 2 complaint can be found below. According to the Borings, they purchased their Oakridge Lane home in late-2006 for "a considerable sum of money," noting that a "major component of their purchase decision was a desire for privacy." But when Pittsburgh was added last October to the roster of cities covered by Google's "Street View" feature, the Borings allege, their "private information was made known to the public," causing them "mental suffering" and diminishing the value of their home (which cost the couple $163,000, according to property records). The Borings are seeking in excess of $25,000 in damages and want a court order directing Google to destroy images of their home. Click here for some photos of the Boring property, which is now even easier to locate via Google Maps, since the plaintiffs included their home address on the lawsuit's first page. And while they are litigating, perhaps the Borings should consider suing Allegheny County's Office of Property Assessments, which includes a photo of their home (which was built in 1916 and sits on 1.82 acres) on its web site.

I'll tell ya, if I seen that Google street view van in my city, I'd be following it to whatever hotel they were staying at and they would not have a street view (spycam) van anymore. These "Google" (CIA) employees who are using this street view crap to take illegal photos of people and places everywhere should be stopped. It's a massive invasion of privacy and the freedom to walk down the street without being photographed.

I dunno. That google map thing is incredibly inaccurate. I can type in my address and it shows a house a block down and a street over. Yeah, you can pan over or whatever and eventually find my house, even on street view, but you gotta know where to look.

me too. I think they have a point with the fact that they are on a private road/ Does that mean the van violated law when they brought the van down the private road? If so they may have to delete their pics and then that opens the door to lots of others...like you, I hope they win!

Isn't google a private company? You bet, and what we are seeing in this article is that someone is taking on the corp. group who think they can control us and even snoop on us.
I think they should sue for more money than they have presented.

What right does google have to snoop? NONE!

"Caused them mental suffering"

Wow ! I find that totally unbelieveable, when I use Google to look at my own home it shows my ex neighbours houses which were demolished near 2 years ago, we now have a building site in its place ready for new tennants very soon.

What people sue over these days boggles my mind !
I listen to both God and Satan ... I like to hear both sides of the story.

I hope the household gets smashed by Google. People don't even know what "evasion of privacy" means. If anything, this type of technology will increase the value of people's homes and will help sell houses in the future. Lawsuits like this make me ashamed to be an American.

The government just wants aarial photos of all properties so you cann't be doin anything out of the ordinary in your backyard.

Of course "we" get the static photos of 2 years past.
While "they" can view anyplace in real time.

Its the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard. Does that mean they will be banning all air traffic from going over their house too? Google Earth are STILLS...not moving, so it shows squat apart from the possible shape of a pool. What are they doing that needs so much privacy anyway....maybe THEY need investigation?

Yesterday, found letter at my house stating Assessor's office had stopped by and took pictures of my property. They left questionnaire to be filled out.

Kind of freaked me out that someone came onto my property and took pictures.

I don't have anything to hide, but it just isn't something I want people to be doing. I have no rights because they work for the Gov't.
